Chapter 2

HURT (2). EVE'S POV CONTINUES. I turned to look at Rita, who lowered her head instantly and bit her lower lips. She was dating the Alpha of our pack and never told me? I couldn't believe it, and now this man was my mate. The destined mate, the moon goddess, gave me. Why did she have to be so cruel? "Mate," he suddenly growled, startling both Rita and me. "My mate," he repeated, and Rita gasped before leaving my side and hurrying towards him, hugging him tightly and letting out happy tears. "Really? I can't believe this. I am your mate after all, but why can't I feel anything?" She inquired, but Alpha Bryan ignored her and kept on looking at me before shaking his head sideways. Rita stiffened before looking back and forth between Bryan and me; then, I guess, realization hit her, for she stumbled backwards, leaving the Alpha alone. "No, no, I think it can't be possible, right?" She stuttered, but neither of us said anything. I just sat there on the floor and made to get up when I heard Rita scream before she rushed towards me and pounced on me. Pushing me back to the ground and getting on top of me before hurling punches into my face. I couldn't believe Rita was hitting me. "You lowlife, after everything I have done for you, how dare you take my lover away from me, you worthless omega?" I tried fighting against her, but hearing her call me that word, a worthless omega just like everyone else did, weakened me, so I just dropped my hands and let her hit me. She gave me a heavy slap on my face that threw my face to the other side, almost breaking my neck and tearing my lips. The cold, metallic taste of blood fell on my tongue, and I cried, not because it hurt, or I was in pain. Well, I was in pain, but not from the beating. From the thought of my best friend, the only one I had in the world, now hating me and seeing me just like how everyone saw me. 'Why does life have to be so cruel to me?' I wondered. Suddenly, I felt Rita being heaved away from me. I looked up and saw her fighting against Bryan, who was holding her tightly. "Let me go. Let me teach this snatcher of a lover a lesson, or because she is your mate now, you are picking her over me?" Rita yelled, and I stupidly felt a little bit of hope, wondering if that was the case. But what Alpha Bryan said next broke my heart. "Am I dumb or blind? Why would I see a beautiful, strong she-wolf like you and decide to choose a worthless nobody and, worse of all, an omega over you?". It was just like a knife was pierced into me and twisted in my guts. My heart shattered, and I lay on the floor, speechless, words refusing to form out of my lips. Rita, hearing him say that, stopped fighting against him, smiled, and then turned to give him a deep kiss on the lips. He responded and wrapped his hands around her waist, reciprocating her kiss. Those two battled with their tongues, not caring that I was right in their presence and watching them. Rita disengaged before turning around to face me, her smile wiping off, replaced with her lips curling up into a sneer. She turned away, her shoulders tensing in distaste, as if the mere sight of me repulsed her. My friend just became my enemy. It hurts, but what hurt even more was my mate looking at me in the same way as when he gazed at Rita. It was like she was his whole world. Warmth and love are obvious in his gaze. His touch on her was gentle. I suddenly felt like the villain in their story. "I can't believe you would do this to your friend." He commented in distaste, and my lips trembled as I wondered why I was being blamed. It was not like I wished for any of this to happen or that it was my fault. "I, Alpha Bryan Castle, reject you; I have no idea what her name is." He was about to reject me when Rita muttered with bale. "The b***h's name is Eve Blackwood." He nodded at her and proceeded. "No, please," I pleaded, not ready for that amount of pain yet, but it was ignored. "I, Alpha Bryan Castle, reject you Eve Blackwood as my future mate and Luna." The cloud suddenly clapped, and thunder struck, sealing his words. The excruciating pain hit me, and I roared out from hurt. It felt like my chest was being split open and my heart pulled out, like hot lava was being poured over me. It hurt and burned at the same time, and all I could do was cry. There was nothing to ease the pain. His words felt like a sword was piercing my heart, leaving me gasping for air as it felt like my very own soul was being torn apart. My eyes felt like they were being drowned in a sea of tears, my vision blurring. Seeing me in pain didn't even move any of them. "And I choose you, Rita Gray, as my fated mate and future Luna." He told her, smiling down at her. A happy tear dropped from her eyes before she moved into his embrace. All I could do was just look at them; my vision grew blurry, and before I knew it, I lost consciousness. That was how weak I was. I woke up to someone kicking me by the side of my ribs and popped my eyes open to see both Rita and the girl, Freya, who was making fun of me earlier at the festival. Seeing I was awake, Rita grabbed me tightly by my hair, saying in the process. "You ungrateful b***h. After everything I did for me, you try to steal my mate?" She yelled, and I tried pulling her hands off my hair, for it felt like my scalp was on fire. "Stop it, Rita, and you mean my mate." At those words, she dropped my hair and landed a kick on my tummy, making me cough out blood. "He already rejected you, you unwanted looser, and trust me, no one will ever want you either." I fell to the ground again, feeling too weak to move. I turned to ask her, my expression sorrowful. "Why, why?". "Oh, please! Spare me. I was never your friend to begin with. I just pretended to be because it was so much fun seeing the pack's outcast worship me just because I offered her a little bit of my attention." She explained, and I shuddered on the floor, shaking my head sideways, tears gushing out of my eyes. I refused to believe her words. She just wanted to hurt me, but all she did was laugh at my state of denial. "How pathetic, girls, please let's go. I have a party to enjoy and a lovely mate to get back to. She is not worth our time," Rita commanded, and her minions followed her. After they left, I just lay there on the floor and cried to my heart's content before getting up weakly and deciding to visit a bar for the first time in my life to drown my pain out.
