''You seem too enthusiastic, anything up?'' he asked, looking at her from the rearview mirror.
''Nope,'' she slurred. She sometimes found it suspicious how he watched her from the rearview mirror and was able to tell her mood. It was like he was constantly watching her like some weather forecast trying to figure the weather out.
She understood that was his job, but it was a little too much.
''Can you pull up Mac Donald, I want to grab breakfast.''
''Sure.'' He pulled over and got down from the car.
''What should I order?''
''Just hamburger and lemonade'' he scrunched his face at her weird choice of breakfast. She chuckled, knowing all too well what he was thinking.
She looked out of the car and noticed some girls around ogling him. She wasn't surprised, who wouldn't, he looked like a god with his green eyes and dark brown long hair. For some unknown reason, he had always looked like this since she had known him.
''Here you go,'' he announced, slamming the car shut. She didn't even notice the time he came in.
''That was quick.''
''What can I say?'' he said, pointing at his face and getting a chuckle from her.
''Proud much huh?'' she rolled her eyes playfully.
''You can't deny that fact'' he said and started the car still smirking like his face was his pride.
She munched into her breakfast quietly after that. Halfway through her food, she caught sight of him staring at her again from the mirror.
''What?'' She shrugged her shoulders with pieces of ham still in her mouth. He only smirked.
''Nothing''
''No, really, tell me, why do you do that?''
''Do what?''
''That!'' she nodded her head, referring to the mirror. He looked at her amused like she was the one not making any sense.
She turned her head back to the road and her jaw dropped.
''Hey watch ou...'' before she could finish her sentence, they felt the car hit something before it screeched and finally came to a halt. Lyra gawked at her side of the window wide-eyed. Her hamburger had dropped on the seat and her lemonade dribbled on the seats.
''Did we hit someone?'' she inquired, her voice laced with alarm. She gawked at Fabien who had his face scrunched up. She couldn't quite put her hands on what he was thinking about. He opened the door and stepped out of the car. Lyra did the same and followed him gradually from behind.
They stepped in front of the car. ''OMG!'' Lyra exclaimed when she noticed the body of a male, lying on the floor, lifeless. Fabien trudged closer to the body.
''He is alive'' he said softly.
''Thank God!'' she said, a sense of relief washing through her body. She scampered closer to get a view of their victim. Her stomach squirmed the moment she saw his face. He was the most handsome person she had ever laid eyes on.
Even though he appeared dirty and a little sickly, he was still handsome with his dark curly hair which was almost on his shoulder. His eyebrows bushy as grass and eyelashes longer than any female. She was mesmerized and felt an instant communion with him.
''Shouldn't we take him to a hospital or something?'' Lyra asked when she noticed Fabien leaving the handsome guy behind. For some unfamiliar reason, he looked too calm for someone who had just knocked a person down.
''He will be fine'' he shrugged, getting into the car.
''No!, we are not leaving him here to die'' she stated firmly. Fabien heaved a sigh and got out of the car.
''The hospital work and everything will cost us time seeing as we would have to wait until he regains his consciousness.
''Then, we will take him home'' she blurted out, without thinking.
''I can't talk you out of this I suppose.''
''No.'' Minutes later, they were in the car driving back home.
''What are you going to tell your mom?'' he inquired.
''Huh'' she let out, all her attention focused on the person beside her.
''You know, he is just taking a nap, it's nothing serious'' Fabien explained when he noticed her vigilance on the unknown guy.
''How can he sleep and not know about his surroundings?" She asked rhetorically, finding him amusing. What she didn't know was that Fabien's grip on the wheels was getting tighter and tighter as he watched her ogle him.
"We are here," Fabian said, switching off the engine. He assisted Lyra and they both sent the handsome guy inside.
“Good Lord, who do you have with you” her mom exclaimed the moment she played eyes on them.
“Fabien, can you send him to the guest room while I speak with my mom”
“Sure,” he grumbled.
“We knocked him down with our car” she started and her mom gasped.
"Good Lord. Are you okay?” Lyra nodded.
“We couldn't just leave him on the streets” Lyra shrugged her shoulders.
“Let me call Dr Jake to come and check up on him,” her mom said, concerned.
“Thanks mom” Lyra let out and made her way towards the guest room.
“Is he okay?” she inquired the moment she entered the room. Fabien jerked back.
“Y...yeah, he is still taking a nab”
“How can you tell?” She quizzed, gaping at him skeptically. He just shrugged, evading her question. Lyra crouched on the bed beside the sleeping guy and stared at him.
“How does he manage to look so good even in his sleep?" she whispered to herself but was heard by Fabien. He clenched his fist and gritted his teeth.
“I think we should leave him to rest before Doc comes to check up on him” he forced out.
“I don't mind staying, it's not like I am going to wake him or anything."
"Still he needs his rest”
“Fine!” She bellowed and got up. They both went out of the room leaving him alone in the room.
***********
His eyes flickered open to the sun that was beaming in the room. He groaned using his hand to block the rays from his eyes. He felt so comfortable, he had never in his life slumbered so peacefully. He beamed to himself but that ceased abruptly and was replaced with a grimace.
“Wait, where am I?” He reckoned, instantly becoming alarmed at his surrounding. To say the place was huge would be an understatement. He looked at the luxurious chandeliers and air ventilators all around the white-painted room.
“Where do you think we are?” He asked his wolf. Suddenly, he heard footsteps coming in his direction. He became defensive, his fangs and claws both coming out.
“Mate,” Dray said. Since the day he told him everything he needed to know about werewolves, they had been the best buddies. Always talking to each other which mostly ended in an argument about their mate.
“You mean she's here?” Fabien said in doubt. “Someone's com...” his word was cut short when the door flung open. Darion didn't know when his fangs and claws went back in.
“Hi, how are you feeling?” a girl he didn't know said to him. He looked at her like she was the first female he had ever seen in his entire life. Her long black hair fell on her hip level and clear brown eyes, with lips full like that of a doll. He inhaled deeply when he knew she was no threat to him.
But the scent which hit his nose was filled with the smell of roses and caramel. It instantly became his favourite smell.
“Mate” Dray summered yet again. When Darion heard it, his jaw dropped. She was the mate they had been searching for all these nineteen years that had gone by. The search was definitely worth it.
He beamed, all his monstrous self locking away.
“Umm...hello” she waved her hand in his face.
“Hi” he smiled sheepishly. This only earned him a smile from her.
“I am Lyra” she put her hand on her chest.
“Darion”
“We kinda knocked you out with our car back there, do you remember?” She said, giving him an apologetic look.
Damien furrowed his brows, trying to remember what brought him here.
