Beta Fabien II

1794 Words
The next morning... “Kids, I don't think your driver will be coming in anytime soon.” Mrs Smith said. She looked up at Darion who was coming down from his room. She grinned at him, and he comprehended she had a favor to ask of him. “Anything." he chuckled. “I am sorry to bother you, but can you take the twins and also drive Lyra to school for me. Fabien wanted a day off, saying he had a family issue to attend to.” She begged. “Sure.” The mention of Fabien made Darion furrow his brow. “Did he give a reason why?” He asked. “Nerhh, just that he wanted a few days off. I must say I was surprised, seeing as he never took a day off since the one he took some years ago.” Mrs Smith said and entered the kitchen to start breakfast. “Who the hell was Fabien and what's with the mystery behind him?” Darion thought and made his way to the garage to prepare the car for school. They all sat down and had breakfast after which Darion drove them to school. All this time, Lyra said nothing to him like he didn't exist. After dropping them off, he drove towards the woods and pulled over a little far from where he was going. He had to find out what was going on and the reason why werewolves were after him. He didn't think they would want anything to do with Lyra. He walked into the woods with confidence, ready for any attempt to attack him. He was going back to the very same pack that had tortured him and killed his parents. When he got closer enough, he wished he could mind link. Because of his generic nature, he didn't have that ability, and he didn't have a wolf mate to comprehend if he could do that with her. He wanted to find his buddy, Jason, the only person who he was close enough with to call a friend. He noticed a few lycans walking about, probably the pack warriors who used to guard the place with him. He had to be careful not to be seen. He scanned the guards looking for Jason. There was a particular guard he watched, but he could only see him from behind. He took his eyes off for a second and when he raised his head, the guard was no more there. He looked around hastily and immediately, he felt a tap on his back. His fangs panned out and his eyes turned blue as he jeered around ready to attack, that's when he noticed who it was. Jason had seen him and snuck up behind him. “What are you doing here? Do you have some kind of death wish?” He whispered. “What is going on?” Darion went straight to the point, not acknowledging the concern Jason threw at him. “Something is going on, isn't it?” He continued when he noticed the hesitation in Jason's face. “I love you man, but I can't tell you what happens in the pack. I don't even know if you are with the werewolves.” “You are gonna tell me everything I need to know!” Darion started with a menacing look. He didn't want to use his strength to manipulate him but Jason left him with no choice. “Why are the werewolves following me?” He asked again, not indicating anything concerning his mate. He wanted to keep her safe. “Wait, you are being followed by werewolves?” Jason said, ignorance clearly written on his face. “Listen, we captured some werewolves who crossed our territory and questioned them. Their beta is mated to a human girl. They believe she is the key for something huge they had planned.” Jason ended, taking glances behind them. He knew if he were to get caught talking to Darion, that would be the end of both he and Darion. “What plan?” Darion's voice made him flinch. “We weren't able to attain that information. It seemed to be something huge if they took out their own hearts just to protect that piece of info. He watched his back. "You also have to be careful, the Alpha is still looking for...” he turned and Darion was gone. He gritted his teeth. “He had always been like this, only talking to me when he needed answers.” he gritted his teeth. “Who are you talking to?” Another guard interrogated out of nowhere. “Umm...no one...just myself” he let out an awkward laugh and passed the guard. Back at the werewolf pack.... "It's almost time, and you still haven't made any progress. Alpha Akibrus growled. “How can you let someone she just met ruin everything after eighteen years of being with her,” he continued. “There is still time before the eclipse. I will get rid of him before then.” Fabien said with his eyes narrowed down. He knew not to enrage his Alpha. Someone who didn't hesitate to destroy his own daughter and make her crippled. Fabien glanced at the woman sitting on the wheelchair beside the Alpha. “For goddess ’s sake, she is your mate, and he is just a human!!" He growled. The moon goddess had declared that the mate of the beta would come from the human race and would help with the rise of werewolves over all creatures when the time came. And how did they know this? From the pack's spiritual wiseman. And the Beta was directed to Lyra by the moon goddess the day she was born. He felt it. The connection between them. She was really his mate. Since then, he had always watched her from afar and when she was five, he went in as a butler and has been close to her since then. Making sure she never dated anyone chasing boys who wanted to date her. His only problem was her father, who was also a hunter of their race. And he had to be careful before he found him out. “Couldn't you have just ended his life?” The Alpha's voice snapped him out of his trance. “There will be questions about Alpha, her father has already taken a liking to him. This time, I have a plan to take him out of the picture which wouldn't raise questions.” “Well you better do, else I will do it myself” Fabien turned around to leave but stopped when he recalled something. An important piece of information he left out. “He knows about werewolves.” he said and this spiked the cripple's interest. “How?” This spiked Alpha Akibrus interest. “I don't know Alpha, but I will find out. Lyra also knows now.” “Is he one of us?” The Alpha asked, ignoring the latter sentence. “No, there was no trail of smell on him.” “You can't be sniffed out because of the antidote, how certain are you that he was also not using a drug.” “I will find out about him, Alpha.” Fabien said and dismissed himself. “Another human who knows about werewolves. We can't risk it. It's almost time. There should be no problems.” he asserted to his daughter who was engulfed in her own thoughts. ******* “Hey, Delvin ran cheerily to Darion when he saw him in front of their school. “Can we get ice cream before we go home?” Darvyn begged. “Sure, but let's get one for your sister before we pick her up.” he helped them take their bags off. He launched the car and drove to the ice cream shop and then to Lyra's school. He pulled over right in front of her and without a word she hopped in. “Here, I got ice cream for you.” Darion said, handing her the ice cream in his hand. The twins arched their brows at each other in surprise. “He is taking credit for what we did.” Darvyn whispered in his brother's ear. Darion turned and looked at them with a chuckle. Before turning back to Lyra who was now scooping the ice cream into her mouth. She didn't even thank him for it. He inhaled and concentrated on driving. They arrived home after a while and the twins rushed into the house. Lyra was next but was stopped by Darion. “Why are you avoiding me?” He asked softly. “I am not avoiding you.” “Yes you are, since I told you about the werewolf thing, you haven't said a word to me.” she looked like she wanted to lash out but was holding it in. “Hey, talk to me.” he literally begged. He didn't like seeing her like this. “We were followed by some creatures I never thought were in existence, and you act like it was nothing! Unless you actually have something to do with them.” She lashed out. “Don't you trust me?” He looked at her with longing eyes. “How about you tell me how you know about them and why they were after you...” She didn't finish her statement before she felt wet lips crush on her mouth. The rest of her words lost against his mouth. "If you want me to stop, tell me now" he whispered. When she said nothing he brushed his mouth against the hollow of her temple. "Or now" He traced the line of her cheekbone. "Or now" his lips still against hers. "Or" but she reached up and pulled him down to her. He kissed her gently, carefully but it wasn't gentleness she wanted, not now. She knotted her fist in his shirt, pulling him harder against her. Darion groaned softly, low in his throat and then his arms circled her, pinning her against the car. They kissed passionately forgetting where they were. Unfortunately for them, this passionate moment came to an end when they heard a growl behind them. They turned their heads and there was Fabien. Rage would be an understatement to describe the nature of his face. He looked slightly different as he gazed at them with a clenched fist. Before anyone could say anything, he pounced on Darion, and they got entangled in a fight. Lyra yelled, calling out to Fabien to stop but this only increased his rage. During the fight, their eyes locked and Darion saw the color in his eyes. Immediately he recognized what Fabien was. A werewolf.
