Intruder

Without wasting time, Lyra came down after getting ready and saw Darion leaning on the wall, obviously waiting for her. “Mom, I'm off” she cried out to her mom who was nowhere to be seen and walked out with him right behind her. “Good morning Fabien.” She waved her hand at Fabien who seemed to be getting the twins settled down in the car. He replied with a tight lip smile. She could tell he was pissed from his flushed face even though he was trying to hide it from her. His eyes were fixed in a particular direction away from Lyra. She took it as he didn't want to look at her. Lyra sighed and took her eyes off him before she infiltrated her car. For some unknown reason, she felt guilty. She looked out of the window to check what was taking Darion so long. Meanwhile, Darion and Fabien were immersed in a crucial eye contest. “Hey, we gotta go, I am running late for my class.” She yelled at Darion, making him break eye contact with Fabien. He entered the car and started the engine. “What was that all about?” She asked him when they hit the roads. “I don't think your butler likes me very much” he let out and earned a chuckle from Lyra. “Of course I would be angry too, if someone new just appeared and abruptly monopolized my job.” She groaned. The drive continued in silence. A peaceful silence where everyone was deep in their own world. “Why did you offer to drive me?” Lyra asked slowly, breaking the silence. She gazed at him through the mirror. He shrugged his shoulders and furrowed his brows. “You needed a driver and I proposed. I don't see anything wrong with that” he countered after giving her question some reflection. Lyra just made a “hm” sound and looked out the window. The remainder of the journey proceeded with them stealing glances at each other. When they arrived at her college a few minutes later, Lyra opened the door and got down from the car. “Will you pick me up when I am done with my lectures?” She asked hopefully. Her eyes steadily fixed on him and her eyebrows raised in anticipation. Darion hoisted an eyebrow and His mouth twisted into a slight close-lipped smile. “Just give me a call when you are done”. He said and threw a charming smile at her. This caused her stomach to twitch. She smiled back. Her face pink from too much blushing as she entered the building. Right after she settled down on her seat, the professor entered and started his lecture. She thought of nothing but Darion during the whole class. She grabbed her bag and headed to the parking lot when all her day lectures ended. She took out her phone to call Darion and realized she didn't even have his number. She sighed, regretting the fact that she forgot to take his number. Suddenly, a car honked and Lyra raised her head only to see him grinning at her. “I love this guy” she confessed to herself and shuffled towards him. “You forgot to give me your number.” She frowned at him with a blaming look. “You didn't ask for it,” he replied with a sardonic smirk. "Hi, Lyra here" Lyra suddenly placed her phone on her ear. “Let's just go” he laughed at her way of avoiding his flirtation. He drove out of the parking lot into the streets. “So...tell me about you” he asked. “I don't think there is so much to me, you on the other hand seem to have a mysterious life” he peeked at her, surprised she came up with an accurate speculation. “Well, I will leave it for you to figure me out” he said and the flirtation in his tone didn't go unnoticed by her. Darion pulled over when they arrived back home. She stepped out and entered the building straight into her room. He was about to enter the building but was stopped by Fabien who he hadn't noticed was watching him. “Don't use the accident as an excuse to stay here.” Fabien said with venom. He squinted his eyes and jotted his chin as he looked at Darion like he was ready to swallow him any moment. The color of his eyes slightly turned red. “I don't want you anywhere near her.” Darion puckered his face at this. “What do care, you are her butler not her dad” he said calmly? “Who does this person think he is trying to separate us from our mate?” Dray raged, instantly getting possessive over Lyra? “I have warned you, you wouldn't want to see my other side.” Fabien said and grabbed a toy from the car and entered the house. It looked like it belonged to the twins. Darion was stunned at Fabien's outburst when he was just a butler. It seemed suspicious to him. “Do you think he likes her?” He asked his wolf. “He would dare not!. Do we have to live with him under the same roof?” Darion sighed. "Unfortunately we do.” He entered the house and noticed the twins playing in the living room with a wolf toy. He glanced around but Fabien was nowhere to be seen. Probably in his room. Darion thought. “That's not how wolves howl, '' he said, joining them. The twins were making weird sounds like puppies while depicting the howling of werewolves. “How would you know?” Darvyn raised his head to look at Darion. “Yes, how do you know how they growl?” Dervin said, mostly repeating his brother's words. The curious look on their faces caused a smile to form on Darion's face. “I have seen them up close.” The twins sat up and leaned forward suddenly getting interested. “What did they look like?” “Did they look scary?” “Did you touch them?” The questions just poured out from their mouths. Darion chuckled. “Want me to tell you?” He asked, keeping them in suspense. They nodded their heads frantically in unison. “Honestly, they look just like me,” he declared with seriousness. A loud laugh broke out suddenly, and they all turned their heads in the direction it came from. Lyra had come from her room and had been watching Darion goof around with the kids. She was surprised they were talking to him. Something they didn't do with Fabien even though he had been with them since they were born. It suddenly dawned on her when she saw the way they were all staring at her while she sheepishly stood there laughing. She suddenly cleared her throat. “Umm... I forgot my phone in the car” she said pointing to the door. “I will get it for you” Darion stood up almost immediately. "Thanks I...guess" she smiled awkwardly at him. Darion went out of the door and straight to the car. He poked his head in the car and noticed Lyra's phone. He reached out and pulled it out of the car. Just when he was about to secure the door, he heard whispers coming from the other side. He tilted his head to the direction the sound was coming from. He strained his hearing abilities to get what was being said. “It might take longer than expected." "She seems to be showing interest in him." And there was a pause. "Wait, I think someone is here.” the person turned and they both locked eyes. It was Fabien. “What do you want here?” He asked darkly. Darion wanted to ask the same thing, but he didn't want to stir up any trouble. So far, he was doing well keeping his bloody side locked up. And he didn't want to ruin it which might cause him to lose Lyra. “I asked you a question,” Fabien roared out. “Nothing... nothing wrong, I lost my way” he said gently. “Well then, now that you know you are lost, do you mind leaving?” Fabien clenched his jaw. “Sure” he said and walked away. Something about Fabien seemed too suspicious to him, and he planned to find out what it was after the conversation he just heard. He went back into the house and continued playing with the twins, still thinking about what he had just heard Fabien say on the phone. Seeing as he didn't have anything to do, Darion decided to make dinner. He went up to Lyra's and knocked on her door. “Who's there?” “Your mate.” Dray blurted out. “Hey, what the hell” the door suddenly flung open and Lyra stood in the way. “What did you say?” She quizzed. “I don't think I spoke,” Darion replied, curling his neck in doubt. “You said your mate.” His jaw dropped when he heard her. “Did she hear me??” Dray interrogated, only this time with a whisper. “You heard wrong” Darion shrugged and burst out into an unwarranted laughter. “Hm” this time, she twisted her neck with a frown on her face. “I wanted to ask if you had a credit card or something. I want to make dinner and there is nothing in the house.” “I was going to later but since you are here, let's go” she shrugged her shoulders. "Lemme grab my stuffs" Lyra grabbed her phone from her wardrobe and off they went. “The twins don't eat cucumbers, so we don't buy it.” Lyra said when Darion picked a cucumber. “Oh okay” he dropped it back. "No, if you like it, it's fine, you can take it" Lyra said almost immediately. "Nerhh, it's fine, I'm not picky with what I eat" Darion flashed her a mischievous smile. There seemed to be nothing flirtatious with what he said but the twist in Lyra's stomach and flushed face said otherwise. They shopped for a while before checking out. Just when Darion was about to put the groceries into the boot, a strong scent hit his nose. He knew the scent all too well. He had killed lots and lots of them. He wrinkled his nose and sniffed again just to make sure, and it was not just one or two, but four different scents he picked up. His whole body became tense. There were four werewolves around. He jerked his head up and there they were, on the edge of a tall building not so far from where he and Lyra stood and they were staring right at them.
