*Flashback* “We don't have to let them catch up with us” he ran faster than ever. What he didn't know was that the people behind him were not werewolves but werewolf hunters. They had been keeping track of animals like him and other creatures. And unfortunately for him, that particular day was the day they struck. After seeing the dead bodies of Darion's victims. They were able to follow his tracks after he had transformed. “Get him” he could hear from behind him. The voices were so far from him even though he could clearly hear them. He knew he had to stimulate his pace if he didn't want to die in the woods. Out of nowhere, a bullet plunged into his skin. The pain he felt was indescribable. He fell to the ground and howled loudly. His wolf getting enraged by the sudden tinge of silver on his shoulder. “We got it,” he heard faintly. He forced himself off the floor and put his hairy hands on his shoulder where the bullet had hit. He continued to run but this time, slower than before. After a few minutes of running, he could see the streets a few miles ahead of him. He wanted to shift into his human form, but he had to stay in his animal form to be able to heal quickly. Because of the Lycan blood running through him, the silver wounds were not too much of a threat to him. “I'm gonna get the bastard this time” a man's voice spat with malice. He looked in the direction the voice came from and saw eye to eye with a man in his 40s. He looked decent, all dressed up for hunting. Darion glanced at him a second time and increased his pace. He quickly lost him in just a few steps. A few feet away from him was the streets, he looked behind him and noticed he was alone. He shifted and ran towards the streets, the pain in his shoulder fading away. There was a car moving toward his direction. Before he could ponder on whether to stop the car or not, his wolf cried. “Mate is here.” “What?where?” “I don't see anyone around.” “The car” he stood still and watched the car closely. The person driving had his back turned from the road. “No really, tell me, why do you do that.” “Do what” “That!” he listened attentively to their conversation, forgetting that he was in the middle of the road. Suddenly, he heard the car screeching and the next moment, he was on the floor and everything went blank.” “Is he awake?” A woman entered the room, snapping him out of his trance. “My mom” Lyra gestured at her mom. “Call me Mrs Smith,” Lyra's mom said, taking an instant liking to him. She wrinkled her nose and made faces. “I think you need to take a bath before anything else.” This made Lyra laugh, nodding her head in agreement. She left them alone in the room and Lyra showed him to the bathroom. She gave him a few clothes she took from Fabien, seeing as he was the only person whose clothes would fit Darion. Fabien sure was not happy about it even though he still gave it to her. “I will be downstairs when you are done,” she said. Darion just nodded. “Umm... Lyra. How long was I asleep for?” “Half a day” she smiled shyly at him hearing her name come from his mouth. She slammed the door behind her leaving him to his love jabbed self. “Lyra___Lyra_Lyra_Lyra...” he repeated to himself as he entered under the showers. **************** Darion noted the twins taking glances at him every now and then as they munch on their toast. He assumed that there were only four of them, mom and children, no dad. “What if he trimmed them when he woke up?” “I'm gonna ask him about it.” “No, you twerp” “He looks scary to me” “Does not” “Does to” “Not” “Do to” Listening in on their argument made Darion grinned at them. They were so adorable mumbling about him like he was not around. The clones had snuck up on him when he was still in his sleep. They saw his claws, and they assumed it was his nails. “So, where do you live? Are you a student?” Mrs Smith bombarded him with questions earning herself a disapproving look from Lyra. “Mom, we are eating” she whispered. To be honest, she was dying to know every single detail about him herself, but she felt it was inappropriate to ask these questions when he was eating. “Mate wants to know about us, I can see it in her eyes.” Dray said with a goofy chuckle. “Let's satisfy her curiosity.” “It's okay, I don't mind answering them.” Darion opened his mouth. “Wait, did I say that loud?” Lyra whispered to her mom yet again wide-eyed. “I don't think so, he just has good hearing her mom whispered back. Darion found them amusing. The only reason he could hear them was because of the super-hearing ability he had by being a werewolf. But he had to be careful around them. He cleared his throat. “I am an orphan, and I lived in Paris, came back here in search of a job” he let everything out. Every word is a lie except the part of him being an orphan. “I am so sorry I asked you” Mrs Smith apologised, regretting the fact that she had compelled him to recollect something tragic. “It's okay, they died a long time ago.” He said with a smile on his face. Lyra looked at him, and she saw the hurt in his eyes even though his face and mouth said differently. She yearned to hug him and assure him. “You could spend some days with us till you figure things out” Mrs Smith blurted, out of pity for him. Lyra coughed when she heard her mom. “Wait, what! You are not serious” she said hoping for it to be true. Her mom looked at her trying to figure out whether she liked the idea or hated it. Lyra noticed the silent look everyone gave her, and she cleared her throat. “I mean, that would be nice,” she mumbled, hiding the contentment she felt. The thought of him taking off didn't settle well with her for some unknown reason. Since the day she saw him, she felt some kind of connection to him, and she wanted him to be around till she could figure out what it was, thus the happiness she felt when her mom made the sudden announcement. Dray on the other hand was restless. He was so happy he would be staying close to his mate. Darion looked at Lyra with a flirtatious smirk and it melted her. He knew she felt what he was feeling even though she was human and knew nothing about the mate bond. “Are you not gonna get ready for school?” Mrs Smith said, jeopardizing the mood between them. The twins hunkered down their faces in dread. “Can't we stay home today and show him around” Delvin referred to Darion. “Yes,” his brother backed him. “No honey, you are both going to get dressed and Fabien would drop you off. They looked at her, astounded. "Your driver called in sick.” She clarified the reason for the sudden development. “Mom, aren't you disregarding something?” Lyra rolled her eyes lazily at her mom. “I also have to go to school.” This made Darion look up at her. “Couldn't she drive?” He thought to himself. “I can't drive” Lyra gave him a sheepish grin as if she heard what he was thinking about. “Do you think she can read our mind because of the mate bond,” Dray asked. Darion just shook his head. “I don't mind driving you to your school” he blurted out. They all turned their heads to him. “That would be great!” Mrs Smith cheered. Lyra hooked her mouth together, trying to hide the joy she felt. “I would go up and get ready” she exited the dining room after this. “OMG!” She exclaimed the second she entered her room. “Okay, calm down Lyra, he is just driving you to school. Nothing more.” she said to herself while breathing in and out using her hands as coordinators. She entered the bathroom and was under the shower in second.
