Alpha Rylan
~~
I saw her leave…
My eyes followed her movement as she ran off, sadness rolling off her with every step she took and I didn't fail to hear my dad calling after her. Although that happened some minutes ago, I couldnt get her out of my mind,
Her sad eyes as she denied every fact that I confirmed myself…
Her feeble attempt to trap me in her lies and deceitful eyes.
I noticed everything. Every expression on her face didn’t fail to etch in my mind even though I had other matters to focus on.
After all, I have just been chosen as the next Alpha OF Starfall Pack.
A satisfied smile spread on my face as I thought to my wolf, “I was chosen over Caleb. Look who's laughing now, Kai. We finally won over that bully of a stepbrother. He always thinks he is better than me–”
“Do I look like I care about the stupid title, Rylan!” Kia gritted in my head. “Listen to me just this once and go after Natalia. She is ours and I can feel that she has something important to share with–”
It was my turn to interject, “Enough, Kia!”
I could feel my anger slipping but I held back, controlling myself because I had to. I couldn't lose my s**t before the guests that have come to witness my victory.
“For how long do you plan to be a soft hearted wolf? Natalia is nothing but a liar and did you say she is ours?” I scoffed, ignoring the pain that I was feeling at that moment. The pain of betrayal from the woman I have loved for many years. She used to be my everything. My best friend. My haven… My Talia. But not anymore. “You mean to say she belongs to Caleb, right?”
“This isn’t right, Rylan. I swear by the goddess that this isn’t right.” Kai whimpered.
He was also struggling with the feelings we both share. The love we have built for many years and the truth we both confirmed… it was mostly me though but even Kia couldn't deny that Natalia was a w***e.
“This is just right, Kia.” I countered just as Lycia walked up to me again. She stood by my side with a bright smile and for a minute, the pain in my heart lessened. I felt lucky to have her beside me and to have my baby in her. “Natalia belongs to Caleb and Lycia is ours. That’s how it should be.”
Although I said that, I couldn't help but think back to the days Natalia had helped me survive in the pack after my mom’s death and after I was brought to a strange place to live with a father I didn't know before and his family of strangers.
Gosh, I loved her… I loved Natalia so much even though she and Caleb had been friends before I arrived in the pack. Caleb and Natalia grew up together and Caleb never failed to make me feel like an intruder. A third wheel.
Gosh, I hate him.
“Exactly, Rylan. What if Caleb planned all these just to get back at us? He knows we love Natalia deeply. I still think you should be truthful to yourself. Go after Natalia and hear her out instead of acting blindly out of rage and–” Kai began.
But I argued, “I no longer love her.” That sounded like a lie even to me. “I’m also acting this way because I should. I confirmed…”
“But did you ask her? Did you let her speak? For goodness sake, Rylan. We both know Natalia is naive and she trusts Caleb very much even though he is a devil.” Kai countered harshly but his tone soon changed as he pleaded with me. “Please, Rylan. The bond we have with Natalia is too strong to throw away and you can’t deny that your heart is broken… you are hurting.”
Truly, I couldn't deny that. Even if i tried, Kia would stop at nothing to dig out my buried feelings.
“Please, Rylan… Just go after her and listen to her.” Kai pushed further.
“Alright.” I agreed, finally acceping the fact that I wanted Natalia to me mine. I craved her and seeing her leave broke me…
Seeing her with Caleb came with a different kind of heartache.
I tried to mask my emotions as I faced Lycia and uttered, “I have to retire for rhe night. Tomorrow is a bigger day and I would be busy–”
“You are lying to me, Rylan. You must have forgotten that I can feel your emotions through our growing bond.” Lycia pouted.
And truly, I felt another bond stiring within me…
One bond was twisting painfully and on the verge of breaking– that was my bond with Natalia and I should severe it to save myself the pain but I couldn’t… I just couldn’t.
The second bond started forming the night I spent in Lycia’s room… I couldnt recall the details of that night correctly because I was completely out of my mind that night. It was the night I found out that everything Lycia had told me about Natalia and Caleb was nothing but the truth.
Regardless of the pain Natalia and my halfbrother inflicted on me, I was grateful for the bond with Lycia. That was the only thing keeping me sane and to think that night is the reason Lycia is carrying my pup.
“Just go, Rylan.” Kai snapped, not sharing my joy onviously. “If the bond with Natalia breaks compleletly, you will lose me and your strenght…”
“Is that a threat?” I snapped right back, using the mindlink with Kia.
Kia answered sadly, “No. It’s a warning. Losing Natlia would weaken you and that will affect your ambition to be the next Alpha King of the werewolf realm.”
My stomach fell because I knew what that would do to me and to my relationship with my dad.
I looked at Lycia who was still pouting. I voiced, “I will be back before you know it. I just need to–” My voice broke as I couldnt tell my new mate that I was going after my ex mate who I just humiliated.
However, Lycia took my words out of my head as she completed for me, “You need to go after Natalia, right? Isn’t that what you–”
Before she could get mad, I clarified, “Please don’t take that the wrong way, Lycia. I know and appreciate all you have done for me. I don’t take you for granted.”
“Yet you still care about Natalia.” Lycia muttered, awfully calm. I didnt knowwhat to say to her as I didnt want to lie and I also couldnt comfirm her words. I expected anger from her but Lycia slwoly pulled me to a corner and said to me, “I care about her as well. She might have been a liar but she was still my friend and I couldnt bare to see her go.”
Was she for real?
I was stunned by how calm and how caring Lycia was. That made me like her even more.
“Natalia doenst deserve us.” I muttered to Lycia.
“Maybe.” She sighed. “But I still sent someone after her to bring her back, hoping that we could resolve this and remain friends.”
“You did?” I gasped,
“Of course, I did. It’s late and she has no one else or a least I thought she has no one else.” Lycia etched, confusing me. She continued by saying, “I thought she would be eager to come back and aplogize but Natalia sent back a disturbing message, Rylan.” Lycia’s eyes became teary.
I wondered what Natalia had done now but I didnt have to wonder for long because Lycia announced, “When my man found her, she was with Caleb and she made it known that she would be going with Caleb instead of returning to the pack and making things right. She chose, Caleb, Rylan.”
Kai whimpered immedaitely and my already broken heart shattered, giving way to rage and hate.
“My man saw her with Caleb and they both vouch to live a happy live together. They are gone, Rylan….” Lycia concluded.
It was at that moment that i realized that I was too good for Natalia and the bond Kia was hellbent on protecting snapped completely. In fact, I uprooted the whole damn thing, tossing it out of my life…
That left a void in my life and I became a shadow of who I used to be all thanks to Natalia who was once my best part.
