Amy bit her lips, made up her mind, and asked the question she had been wanting to ask all night. “Mr. Fontbona, I know, I swear, I won’t disturb you again... but perhaps you were too drunk to remember last night... your legs... they...”
“Get lost!” The coffee cup hit Amy’s head directly. “If you want to continue living in this place, then mind your own business!” Fire seemed to rage within Charles’ eyes.
Amy felt like she was being stared at by an apex predator, and goosebumps broke out all over her body. “Okay... okay, I’m sorry, I’m leaving right now.” She turned around and ran out of the room and rushed downstairs.
Inside the room, Charles glared at Amy as she ran, his thoughts were shrouded in secrecy.
“Ma’am, I finally found you,” the maid said anxiously when she found Amy in a corner of the garden.
Amy looked up in a daze as she was still shaken by Charles’ terrifying stare. “What’s up?”
“Mr. Fontbona told me to inform you that you should not bother him unless there is something of utmost urgency. Please do not disturb him anymore. You should know his temper.”
Amy shuddered and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t go up anymore.”
She thought about her father who was out of danger. Perhaps she could leave here in a more amicable manner. As for what Linda said the night before... Amy’s face turned pale when she thought about being pregnant with a Fontbona heir. “That demon will definitely not let me get close to him anymore,” she murmured.
From that day on, Amy became the mistress of the household but in fact, she was just a parasite in the Fontbona villa. Since Charles found her repulsive, she did not need to take care of him. Thus, she had nothing to do and just ate when it was mealtime and kept away from Charles when he appeared.
One ordinary evening, Amy just returned from the garden and saw the living room in a mess.
Arthur, who was usually calm, shouted anxiously, “Hurry up and call Dr. York. He completely understands Mister’s medical condition and needs to join us at the hospital!”
Amy saw Charles lying in a pool of blood and immediately rushed forward to see if she could help. She needs this opportunity to gain everyone’s favor, especially Charles’. Arthur frowned slightly when he saw Amy, and then stuffed a bag of daily necessities into Amy’s hands.
“Could you go to the hospital with your husband and take care of him for a few days?” Arthur said as he looked at the servants around the living room who looked down nervously.
Before she could gather some of her own items, she was rushed into the ambulance and rushed to the hospital with Charles and Dr. York.
Outside the emergency operation theatre.
Amy sat on the sofa clutching onto the bag that Arthur had given to her with Dr. York’s assistant beside her.
Suddenly, the door of the operation theatre opened and a nurse shouted, “Patient’s family, is Mr. Fontbona’s family here?”
Amy sprung to her feet and replied, “Here! I’m Mrs. Fontbona!”
“Mrs. Fontbona, your husband had lost a large amount of blood. His blood type is very rare and the hospital’s blood bank had run out. If we cannot find suitable blood for him, his life may be in danger.”
Amy thought about her revenge plan against her stepmother, and her father, who still needed a lot of medical treatment. She felt that this was a great opportunity to contribute to Charles and the Fontbonas. Amy extended her arm and said, “Can you test my blood type? Mine’s also rather rare. Perhaps my blood type is a match.”
The nurse looked up at her, raised her eyebrows in surprise, and quickly led her to an adjoining treatment room to test her blood.
“Mrs. Fontbona, your blood type matches the patient. However, you are now our only source of this blood and your husband had lost a large amount of blood. We need to take a larger amount of blood than normally recommended.”
Amy firmly nodded her head and said, “It’s okay, let’s do it!”
The nurse prepared her, put on the surgical gown, and led her to the operating table. Her heart sank as she saw Charles lying on the table with all kinds of instruments attached to him. She lay on a table next to Charles, closed her eyes, and felt the coarse needle piercing into her artery. Life-sustaining blood began to flow out of her into her tormentor. She closed her eyes and tried to block out the bad memories. Perhaps this was a turning point in their relationship. She began to feel cold and drowsy to a point that she almost blacked out. The nurse noticed her weakening condition and quickly stopped the transfusion.
Amy asked, “Why are we stopping? Is it enough?”
“We need a little more but...”
“Continue. I’m alright. Take what he needs.” Amy insisted.
The nurse looked at Dr. York who nodded. She then continued to draw some more blood from Amy. By the time it was done. Amy had already passed out.
When Amy opened her eyes, she saw Dr. York’s assistant beside her. She tried to get up but was stopped by the assistant. “Mrs. Fontbona, don’t be in a hurry to get up. A lot of blood had been drawn out. Finish this glucose IV drip and drink this hot beverage. I’ll inform you when the surgery is completed.”
Amy did as she was told and just rested on the bed. She was too weak to do anything anyway.
“Congratulations, Mrs. Fontbona. Your husband’s surgery was very successful. Your blood made all the difference!” Dr. York personally delivered the news to Amy.
“That’s great. Thank you, Dr. York.” The assistant helped her onto a wheelchair and wheeled her to the intensive care unit. Through the glass panels, Amy was able to look at the unconscious man in detail for the first time.
He looked so gentle and kind when he was asleep. His eyebrows were thick and he had long curly eyelashes. No one could have guessed how violent and hot-tempered he was by looking at him. However, even when he was asleep, Amy still felt intimidated by his oppressive and dominating aura.
In the middle of the night, when the hospital was quiet, Charles regained consciousness and quietly opened his eyes. He recalled everything that happened in the villa and heard a faint breathing next to him. He gently turned his head and saw Amy, who was curled up like a kitten on the bed. He looked at her for a long time, took a deep breath, and exhaled, before closing his eyes again.
The morning sun rays shone into the room and the birds chirped merrily. Amy opened her eyes and felt stronger than yesterday. She got up from the bed and looked at Charles who was still sleeping peacefully on the hospital bed. She quickly tidied herself and went out to get some breakfast. When she returned, Dr. York was already in the room with his assistant.
“Although your surgery was very successful, it was still a serious condition. You need to watch your diet and movements in the coming days,” Dr. York said sternly to Charles. Dr. York, who had been his doctor since he was a child, must be the rare few who could speak with authority to Charles.
“You’re back, Mrs. Fontbona. Oatmeal, fresh salad, and poached fish. That’s a great breakfast for Charles. Thank you, Ma’am.”
“I’ll have Timmy deliver the meals every day until Charles is well enough to be discharged,” Dr. York said and then left with his assistant Timmy.
Amy, who was left alone in the ward, stood awkwardly for a few minutes before she placed the food in front of Charles. “Mr. Fontbona, I’m sorry... you were injured and Arthur seemed to sense that someone in the villa was trying to harm you. So, he sent me to take care of you. Don’t worry, I promise I won’t appear in front of you again when I return to the villa.”
Charles stared at the warm food on the plate, remained silent for a while, and then asked sternly, “What do you want?”
“Huh?” Amy looked up in surprise like a deer in headlights.
“You gave me your blood yesterday, what do you want in return?” he asked frostily.
Amy was startled and tried to hide her intentions to gain his favor. She chuckled and replied, “Hahaha, what are you talking about? I... I didn’t give you the blood in expectation of a reward. Yesterday, your condition was really bad. I would have done it for a stranger.”
“Even a stranger?” Charles scoffed.
“I see. Consider it as I owe you for this. Come to me if you need anything in the future. I will help you as long as it’s not too absurd.”
Neither Amy nor Charles expected that she would require his help so soon.
Amy hung up her father’s phone call and sighed. “Arthur, could you please inform Mr. Fontbona that I need to go back to see my father for some urgent matters?”
Arthur replied with a smile, “Certainly, Ma’am.”
At the top floor of the Brown Group, Lucy yelled as she pointed her finger menacingly at Luka, “When you were hospitalized, it was me who emptied my savings to pay the liquidated damages for the delays. Now that you are discharged from the hospital, you’re here to regain your position as the director. Oh, Luka you old man. How can you be so ungrateful? I wonder what I saw in you in the past!”
Luka was fuming and speechless. Amy barged into the office and said, “Mother, are you hearing the hypocrisy in your words? Don’t you know what situation you were in when you married my father? Didn’t you spare no efforts to seduce my father so that he could help your family pay off your debts?”
Lucy sneered and said, “What do you know, you b***h? I was already a leader in the industry when you were still sucking your thumb. Now that your father’s back, do you think that you can g**g up against me? What fools!”
Amy slammed a stack of documents in front of Lucy and said, “Mom, this is a pile of business proposals that my father had already negotiated before he was hospitalized. You should know that the Brown Group could not last long with your current ways. If you want the group to turn around and be profitable again, executing my father’s deals is the only way out.”
Lucy browsed though the documents and saw the proposed new partners, the suppliers that needed to be dropped, and the departments that required reorganization. Her pupils dilated and immediately threw the documents at Amy’s face. “b***h, get out of here with your father and I’ll spare you. If you ever dare to come back here and cause trouble for me, I’ll make sure you live to regret it!”
“Security, come and throw these two out!” Amy and her father were no match for the security guards. They were taken to the lobby and then pushed out of the building. and were quickly pushed out of the top floor. Just as they were being thrown out of the Brown Group building, behind the door of the Brown Group.
Just as they did so, they saw Arthur wheeling Charles slowly through the main entrance, flanked by two rows of bodyguards dressed in black suits. The bodyguards grabbed the security guards and dragged them away.
“Charles?” Amy exclaimed as she looked at Charles in amazement.
Charles did not respond to Amy. He reached behind and took a stack of documents from Johnny. He quickly circled a few names on the document, folded a few pages, and handed it back to Johnny.
Amy looked at Charles in a daze. Was he here today to discuss a business deal with Lucy? Why did he come to the Brown Group?
Lucy fawned and smiled radiantly as she approached Charles. “Mr. Fontbona, it’s really an honor for you to be here...” Johnny blocked her before she could reach Charles.
Johnny handed the documents to Lucy and said, “Ms. Collin, there are several projects that Mr. Fontbona has chosen to invest in with the Brown Group. You can take a look first.”
Lucy’s eyes lit up and took over the documents, but her expression darkened as she browsed through them. “Mr. Fontbona, this...?” She was stunned by his demands. Although Mr. Fontbona had always been unpredictable, never in her wildest dreams did she expect him to go there personally to support that little s**t and her father’s business deals!
Lucy gritted her teeth so forcefully that they almost shattered. “Mrs. Lucy, you should know that without the Fontbona Group’s investments, the Brown Group would not last long under your management.
The one-sided situation changed completely due to Charles’ arrival and Johnny’s words. Lucy hesitated for a while but was unable to change anything.
Charles turned around with the group and caught a glimpse of Amy hiding behind some plants. “Do I have to invite you?” he said to her scornfully.
Amy sat timidly beside Charles in his Rolls Royce. “I really appreciate what you did just now, Mr. Fontbona.”
Charles continued to look out of the window and calmly replied, “There’s nothing to thank me for. As I said before, I will help you because I owe you. We’re even now.”
Amy did not know what else to say. She peeked at his handsome and divine face which looked a lot more pleasant than she first saw him.
Perhaps he isn’t that cruel and inhumane? Can I really have a good marriage with him?
