Trackers POV
I was hanging around outside the Silver Rose’s pack border, but I could smell Karma from miles away. I knew they were setting things up for her birthday party. I knew she loved fireworks night, regardless of it being on her birthday. They had set up a large bonfire, fireworks and I could see trays of bonfire toffee and toffee apples. A large BBQ was set up near the pack house and there were burgers and hot dogs all being prepared. I smiled, knowing she would love this. I wondered if she had gotten my present yet. I’d wrapped it in plain brown paper so it was easily distinguishable from the other gifts, I hadn’t dared put a card on it though, in fear she would just throw it away.
Break was going wild in my head, he wanted us to go to Karma, but I knew it wasn’t the time yet. I wanted to claim her as mine in front of that spoiled prince and his stupid father. I would break them both before taking my pure princess away from them. Break yipped happily in my head causing me to look over at the party again. I knew Karma shouldn’t be outside yet as they were still getting ready, but I noticed her walking round the other side of the house with Chase. She was holding my package.
I walked steadily and quietly to the other side of the pack border so I could see the pair. She had sat on a bench near the pool with Chase sitting beside her. She was smiling as she tore open the package. I smiled, seeing her face light up as she pulled out a muffler and matching shawl. It was light blue just like her eyes. I knew she would want to dress up tonight, but I didn’t want her getting cold and I knew her favourite colours were dark blue and purple so I found something that would match either but also her eyes. She immediately put them on and smiled brighter. She was looking around the package for a card and looked confused but then the pair got up and headed inside.
Why can’t we follow her now? Break whined.
It’s not time yet, later, we will destroy that boy’s future as well as get our beautiful mate. I growled back to him.
Why not now?
Because we need everyone to see, and we need to make sure that i***t Alpha sees what he has done. I growled again. I turned around and headed back home for a few hours before the true party began.
Karmas POV
The present I got last would look amazing with my new dress; I assumed it was a present my parents forgot to give me since they had already bought all of my accessories. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that they were from Tracker. I could smell charcoal on them, and Kismet was going mad in my head, her happiness caused my heart to swell at the thought that he bought them me before I shook it away. Not my thoughts, Kismets. He might be my true mate, but Chase was my chosen mate. I didn’t know Tracker, I didn’t know anything about him, any of his interests and besides this stupid pull I would never have noticed him before. Maybe Alpha George was right, the moon goddess’ mate pact was outdated in the modern era?
Chase had left me at my door to go and get ready himself for the evening festivities. I was glad that I had the shawl and muffler. I really didn’t want to have to wear a coat over my beautiful dress, but I knew it would be cold until the fire got warmed up. I started by refreshing myself in the shower and working on my hair. I wanted it loose, so I decided to quickly curl it. Soft, large curls tat hung loosely down. I decided on putting on barely any make up, just a bit of gloss and mascara, then I put on my dress. I stared at my heels, should I really wear them when I was going to get close to the fire.
Plus, what if we need to run? Kismet suddenly asked me out of nowhere.
What? I asked back. Why would we need to run?
You never know what might happen Karma. She quipped back. I’d go for your sneakers, plus we all know Chase will love the rebellion.
I had to laugh at that, he sure would. He always said he hated girls who wore heels to events on grass and how they couldn’t walk properly. I barely wore heels and I think the only reason my parents got them me is because they want me to act like a Luna. But I wasn’t that tonight. I was an 18-year-old girl who could finally drink and have fun! I headed to the wardrobe and pulled out my dark blue sneakers with the galaxy design me and Chase had painted on them when we were around 9 or 10. With that everything was ready and all I needed to do was head downstairs. So, I linked Chase telling him Id meet him at the bottom of the stairs and grabbed my shawl and muffler before heading out of the room.
Chases POV
Karma mind linked me to let me know she was ready. I had been ready for over half an hour, so I headed to the bottom of the stairs, and I was absolutely shocked by what was coming down them. She was absolutely glowing. Her hair was perfect and the jewellery our parents had bought her was complimenting it perfectly. I looked her up and down and had to hold back a huge laugh when I noticed her shoes. She saw my face and knew I’d seen them and winked at me before letting her dress fall over the sneakers as she reached the bottom. She elbowed me gently.
“My parents will never know, so you keep quiet!” She giggled. I leant over to her ear and whispered.
“My lips are sealed, but I’ll need a reason to not tell.” She blushed and hit my chest before kissing me on the lips gently.
“Will that do for now?” She blushed. I nodded and offered her my arm, wiggling my eyebrows playfully.
“Let’s head out birthday girl!” I said, guiding her out of the house. I steered her to the backyard where everyone was waiting. Most of the pack was attending, some for support for Karma, but some were here purely to see if we were truly mates. I knew a lot of the younger girls in the pack were hoping it wasn’t true, but, even if I had found any of them to be my mate in the past, I would always choose Karma. Everyone shouted happy birthday and my dad shouted that the party was beginning and that he would make an announcement before the bonfire was lit. Everyone scattered around either to grab food or to dance or drink. Karma was staring at the unlit fire lovingly and seemed to be lost in thought.
“Penny for your thoughts?” I asked, handing her a drink. She looked down to it and smiled.
“I was just thinking how happy I am. I also need to find my parents to say thank you for this AND I was excited that my boyfriend would bring me my first alcoholic drink.” She smiled. “So, what did you choose?”
“Well…” I smiled. “I know how much you love toffee and apples so that’s what I picked. Toffee cider!” I smiled, feeling immensely proud of myself. She took a sip and her eyes closed. I could tell she liked it.
I wish that were us in her mouth right now Chase. Ace purred.
ACE! I scolded, but I did too. She opened her eyes and smiled at me.
“It’s beautiful.” And she kissed me on the lips. “Now let’s go find my parents. I want to say thank you!”
Karmas POV
I headed towards my parents, and they smiled as they saw me.
“Oh Karma!” My mum gushed. “You look amazing!” as she hugged me.
“You do look gorgeous sweetheart.” My dad smiled and hugged me. “Don’t think I didn’t notice the shoes though” He whispered in my ear causing me to giggle.
“We’re on grass dad!” I argued and he just smiled at me. “OH! Thank you for these as well!” I said smiling and holding up my hands inside the muffler.
“We didn’t get you those Kar!” My dad said although he looked at my mum for confirmation.
“No, we definitely didn’t, maybe Leah and George got them you?” She questioned, looking at Chase who just shrugged.
“Oh…” My heart sank. “I’ll go and find them to say thank you!” I waved at my parents as me and Chase headed to find his parents. Could Tracker really have gotten me these? NO! I shook my head.
Kismet? What do you think? I asked, but she stayed quiet. Chase was looking at me funny, so I smiled and grabbed his arm, hugging it tightly to me. He seemed to take this and put his other arm around me, causing me to stop walking and pulled me in for a cuddle.
“I love you, Karma.” He said into my hair.
“I love you too Chase!” I smiled into his chest. “Thank you for all this! And I’m sorry you’re stuck with me!” I giggled.
“Shut up silly, I’m not stuck with you, we chose each other. Regardless of what the moon goddess has decided, were together and I know what you’ve been researching the past few months. I know you love me regardless of this other mate” I was so shocked I pulled away from Chase.
“You knew?” I said, my eyes wide. “And you didn’t say anything?” He shook his head.
“I trust you Karma and I love you. I didn’t need to say anything. Just seeing that you’ll reject him for me makes me know how much you love me, regardless!” I smiled but something was heavy in my head and heart. Kismet was still ignoring me. Was she angry?
“I need to find your parents to say thank you for the gifts. Then, I believe your father has an announcement to make before I can enjoy my amazing bonfire?” Chase chuckled and we headed to find Alpha George who was near the bonfire.
“EVERYONE!” He shouted, which took me aback because I was hoping to talk to him before he did the announcement. Everyone stopped doing what they were doing, and the music was turned down. “I would like to make a few announcements. The first being that from today, Chase, my son will take over as alpha of the pack. His official ceremony will be in a fortnight, but his duties begin today. Which brings me to the second part of my announcement.” He reached his hand for me to join him. “I’d like everyone to meet their future Luna, Chase’s mate, Karma. Her ceremony will also be in a fortnight after the love birds have mated properly.” Everyone laughed, causing me to go bright red. I smiled and nodded. Chase came over to join us and grabbed one of my hands out of the muffler. There were cheers but I could see some female wolves were not happy about the news.
“Thank you, Alpha George!” I said smiling. “And thank you for the beautiful gifts I didn’t have time to unwrap earlier.” Aunt Leah was suddenly at his side.
“We didn’t buy you that sweetie?” She said. “They’re beautiful though!”
“Well…” I stammered, not wanting to know the truth. “Who bought them me then?”
“I DID!” A booming voice I definitely knew erupted from the tree line and Tracker waked towards us. Suddenly everyone was in fight mode. Chase stepped in front of me, and his Beta was suddenly by his side growling.
“Who are you rogue?” Chase snarled.
“Rogue? Is that what you’re telling people now Alpha George?” Tracker spat the words out at him, the venom clear in both his voice and eyes.
“Dad?” Chase questioned. Alpha George stepped forwards and looked at Tracker.
“What are you doing here?” He hissed angrily at Tracker.
“You know him?” I choked out at Alpha George. He turned to me and looked sad.
“I do…” He turned back to Tracker. “What are you doing?” Tracker smiled sinisterly.
“I’m here to claim my mate.” He said, holding his hand out towards me. My eyes bulged and I stepped forwards.
“I told you, Chase is my mate!” I looked at Chase who seemed genuinely confused. I stared at Tracker angrily. Suddenly Kismet was in my mind.
DON’T DO IT KARMA! PLEASE! She begged. I ignored her and stormed to tracker and threw the muffler at him.
“I am not your mate!” I screamed, now throwing the shawl I had gotten off my shoulders at him, but as I did, he grabbed my wrist and the sparks shot through me again causing me to gasp yet again. He smiled a victorious smile, his brown eyes staring straight into mine.
“Course you aren’t!” He laughed, heartily, causing Chase to finally break through his shock.
“Tracker?!” he questioned. Wait, Chase knew him too?
“You know him too?” I questioned, trying to turn at look at Chase’s face. Tracker wouldn’t let go and I glared at him. But he just smiled at me and, not breaking eye contact, he answered Chase.
“Hey best friend, miss me?” Tracker snarled, he broke eye contact, and I was now able to look between Chase and Tracker.
“Who the hell are you?” I screamed, finally pulling myself away from him. I moved back to Chase’s side who grabbed my waist. I could hear Kismet crying in my mind and I could see the shift in Trackers eyes as his wolf reacted to Chase touching me.
“You don’t remember him Kar?” Chase asked, looking me over like I was pretending not to know him.
“NO!” I shouted getting more and more frustrated at the situation. Alpha George broke in.
“Tracker was a member of this pack; his mum became ill and had to leave so he left with her to take care of her. He was a particularly good friend of both yours and Chases up until he was about 7 Karma.” George smiled sadly. “You might not remember him as you would only have been around 3 or 4.”
“That’s why you left?” Chase asked him. “I thought you’d just disappeared; I was told not to ask about you!” Chase turned to his father angrily.
“There’s so much you don’t know Chase, maybe you need to start asking questions. Now… Karma, let’s go home!” I glared at him and grabbed Chase’s hand defiantly.
“I am home!” I said defiantly at Tracker. Chase grasped my hand tighter. I squeezed it and moved forward to Tracker. “Tracker, I Karma Grego…”
NO KARMA! Kismet screamed in my head.
“of the Silver Rose pack REJ…” Suddenly my vision was black with bright lights flashing. Tracker had rushed forward and kissed me to shut me up. The kiss seemed to last an age and my vision was blurry. Tingles were shooting through my entire body, originating from my lips. Finally, I pulled back and gasped from the intensity of the kiss. I fell to the floor, holding my lips, tears streaming down my face. Chase ran to my side and glared at Tracker.
“What the hell!” He screamed, holding me steady.
“You can reject me all you want Karma, but I won’t accept it. I’ve cared about you from the beginning, and I’ve been in love with you for over 3 years now. No matter what you do I will always be here to remind you that you’re my mate. Chase will forever have to fight with me over you and I will never let up making his life difficult.” Tracker smiled. “I have always cared about you and nothing about you can make me respect you any less, not your looks, not your personality and definitely not your status!” Tracker glared at Alpha George as he said that last part.
I looked at Tracker, horrified. How did he know? Had he heard what Alpha George had said to me before? MY tears were still streaming down my face as I turned to look at how Chase was reacting. He wasn’t looking at me, only at Tracker in confusion.
“What?!” Chase said. “Who cares about her status?” Chase questioned, angrier this time.
“Your father does…” I said quietly. “After all, I’m only an omega…” I said a little louder, glaring at Alpha George. It was Chase’s turn to look horrified now as he stared at me with his mouth open.
“What? George?” Aunt Leah looked at him questioningly. “You said that to her?!” He looked at me, his face was sad, but he turned to Aunt Leah and nodded.
“It’s true, I said it to protect them both, after everything we learnt, you told me to make sure Chase doesn’t get hurt. It’s clear that Tracker loves her, and Karma feels the pull more than we thought. She is only an omega. Chase deserves someone better.” I rose to my feet, Chase did too but he didn’t say anything. My parents were glaring at Alpha George. I looked around; everyone was looking at each other.
“Only an omega?” I choked out, standing tall. Kismet also angry. “You have always been an uncle to me, I have always respected you. I love Chase dearly and would NEVER hurt him.” I was getting angrier, and I felt something wanting to burst from my chest. Alpha George looked at me, with a hint of confusion and worry on his face. I felt powerful. “How DARE you assume you know what I think or feel? How dare you put me beneath you when you have also made mistakes and hurt people. You yourself said this was outdated. How...dare…you…” I began sobbing again.
My heart hurt now, and the power I had felt leave me. I wanted Chase to comfort me, but it wasn’t his arm I felt around my shoulder as I began to cry. It was Tracker’s. I sobbed harder, pulling away from him. My strength was being sucked out of me and I didn’t know why. I looked at Chase again, but he was staring at me and Tracker. His eyes kept changing to his wolves, he looked a mix between sad and angry and seemed to be mind-linking too.
“Chase?” I questioned through my tears.
“Dad’s right! You are just an omega…” He trailed off and my heart broke, right there and then. I fell to my knees again, clutching my heart. Kismet howled in pain too, despite feeling the pull towards Tracker she did love Chase, and she knew how much it would hurt me. I couldn’t breathe as the tears fell faster and faster and I was clearly beginning to hyperventilate. Suddenly, I felt pain that was overwhelming, and the anger began to shake through me. I knew Kismet wanted to transform but I wanted to run away first.
I looked over at everyone. Aunt Leah was comforting my parents and looking at me with sadness in her eyes, but no one moved to help me. Alpha George looked at me sadly but turned his back and began walking towards the pack house. Chase was still staring at me and Tracker, who was now knelt on the floor next to me, was whispering quietly to me. Not touching me but just there. He wasn’t looking at anyone else besides me. Whispering words, I couldn’t quite hear but I knew were soothing.
“Please Chase, I love you. We promised each other. You’re going to break the promise?” I said, through heavy breaths, giving him a final chance to fix this. The anger from Kismet was subsiding at the gentle words from Tracker. But my heart was in a million pieces as more tears fell.
“Just go Karma, I love you but fathers right, you need to be with your mate. A rogue, and an omega seem perfect together.” His face went blank, and he turned away from me, walking towards the pack house. That was it. Broken, I ran as fast as I could into the woods, leaving everyone behind. I heard someone scream my name, but I didn’t look back. I transformed into my wolf, shredding the beautiful dress that my mum and Chase had worked so hard on. But I didn’t care and ran as fast as I could. I kept running until I finally couldn’t run anymore. I slumped to the ground, transforming back to a human, fully naked. Curling up into the foetal position, too tired and aching to move, I cried as rain began falling from the sky, mixing with my tears. ld all work out.
