Karma’s POV
I slowly stir from my nightmares. I can’t believe I dreamt that Chase turned me away, rejecting me in his heart. Calling me “just an omega”. I stretched and my entire body hurt, everything was on fire and my legs were cramped as if I’d done a leg work out for 24 hours straight. Opening my eyes, I gasped as I realised, I wasn’t at home. Where was I? The room was made of wood, thick logs made up the wall and the ceiling were more wood but in panels. Was I in a log cabin? There was a small window which lit up the room, meaning it was daytime. Inside the room was a single bed, although a little larger and longer than a standard one. There was a wardrobe and a set of drawers with a little mirror on top.
It hit me harder than my first shift, which for context was very painful, that I wasn’t at home. Which meant… everything was true. It wasn’t a nightmare, Chase really had said those things, and he clearly agreed with his father. I shot up in bed and I realised I was naked but had been wrapped in a cream sheet before being placed under a thick duvet. I looked around the room and noticed that some clothes had been left for me in a neat pile on the floor. I sniffed them and immediately knew who they belonged to.
Kismet?
I’m sorry Karma… She whined in reply. I know how much you’re hurting right now but trust me. Everything will be ok.
I blocked her out, I didn’t need her telling me that right now. I reached down and got dressed into what were clearly Trackers clothes. He had left me a pair of black lounge pants and a black T-shirt, both of which buried me, but at least they covered me, I guess. I decided not to bother with the pants as the tee basically reached my knees anyway. I realised there were no underwear and grimaced wondering what I was going to do. Shrugging, I slowly headed for the door, I was grateful for his help, but I had full intentions of rejecting him and going home to Chase. If he genuinely didn’t want me then I would become a rogue myself, I couldn’t live with anyone else. I didn’t want a life I didn’t choose. I opened the door and smelt bacon; my stomach rumbled giving me away. Tracker turned around and his face dropped, he grimaced at me and turned back to the stove.
Well so much for being a nice mate. I said to Kismet but blocked her again before she could reply.
“Erm… good morning…” I said, not sure what else to say. Tracker just grunted at me, carrying on with his cooking. “Er…” I hovered around the room I had come from.
“Just sit down” Tracker boomed, causing me to jump.
“Its fine, I’m going to head out…” I said, straightening myself. I wasn’t scared of Tracker.
“Oh?” He turned, looking at me, his face hard and unreadable. He noticed me in just his t-shirt and grinned. “And where are you going?”
“Erm… Home, obviously.” I rolled my eyes.
“Really? They don’t even want you Karma…” He said, all passion devoid from his voice, like he was bored.
“Thanks for that reminder” I mumbled under my breath. “Look, I get that you want us to be mates, but I don’t know you, I don’t remember you, and I defiantly don’t love you. I need to go home and fix… this!” I said gesturing to everything. Tracker turned off the cooker and walked towards me, I moved backwards and bumped into the door frame. He stopped in front of me and crossed his arms, looking me over.
“I don’t WANT us to be mates, we ARE mates.” He said, flatly. Even though his voice was normal it caused me to flinch. “I don’t know you either, but I do remember you. There is absolutely nothing to fix, you’re staying here. We’ll get to know each other, you’re my mate, the end.” He said his arms still folded. I defiantly lifted my head to meet his eyes.
“You can’t stop me!” I said, also crossing my arms. He raised an eyebrow.
“Can’t I? I’m nothing like anyone from your pack Karma, do you really want to test that? I’ve lived like a rogue since I was 7. I always get what I want…” He trailed off, dropping his arms to his side.
“Well, I’m a fighter, stubborn and generally get what I want too, try and stop me I guess, and we’ll see what happens from there.” I said, shrugging my shoulders and walking towards the door. Suddenly I was pulled back and slammed against the wall. I groaned, not because it hurt but because I just wanted this to be over.
“I’m not joking Karma, you’re not leaving!” He was holding one of my arms at the side of my head, but he had stupidly left the other one loose, his other arm on the wall at the side of me. I wasn’t going to react yet, I wanted to see what he would do so I just glared at him without answering. “You’re my mate and we will seal that sooner rather than later.” I narrowed my eyes more. As if I would be “sealing” anything with him!
Groaning, in frustration so he knew how I felt, I tried to move my arm out of his grasp, but he was strong. However, I knew I was quick, and I was sure as heck going to use it to my advantage. I brought my other arm up and tried to jab him in the neck, but he managed to avoid it. He quickly turned me around and pinned me to his chest. His chest was hard against my back and Kismet had begun purring in my head. The sparks were sending shivers down my spine, and I knew he felt them too.
“I’m not joking Karma…” He suddenly whispered in my ear causing me to jump again, this time from the pure pleasure it sent running down my spine. “I don’t want to hurt you, but I will…” He trailed off. I stopped struggling and he let me go. “Breakfast?” He asked cheerfully this time, as if he had won a battle. I didn’t answer but headed towards the small oak table in the middle of the kitchen area. I didn’t sit down though, I looked around. I wasn’t going to be his prisoner. I had every intention of leaving as soon as physically possible.
Please don’t leave! Kismet begged in my mind. He’s our mate, he completes you.
I don’t know how he can complete me when we already have Chase, Kis. He’s a brute. I answered her back whilst still glaring at his back which was now buttering toast.
He does, he’s nice really, I’ve been watching him while you were out. She said lovingly.
I don’t care, I want to get home and sort this mess out. As soon as he goes to the bathroom or somewhere, I’m out of here. I said before cutting off the link.
Then it dawned on me, linking. I closed my eyes and attempted to link Chase. The link was still there! I was so happy I almost cried out in pure joy. He hadn’t closed the link and I was still technically part of the pack.
Chase? Can you hear me? Please, please answer me. I love you, Chase. I don’t want Tracker I want you. As soon as I can I’m rejecting him and escaping this place and I’ll be home in no time. He’s got me here and says if I try to escape, he will hurt me, but you know how quick I am. Please, please answer me!
But there was no answer, yet I knew deep down he had heard my message. I always knew if he had cut off communication mid-sentence. Why was he upset with me? I didn’t ask for this, and surely he knew me better than this. As I finished contacting Chase, Tracker placed a plate in front of me. It was full of eggs and bacon, toast and hash browns. My stomach rumbled again, and I tried to hide it.
“Thanks!” I mumbled not looking at him. He grunted in reply and headed into another room with a plate full of the stuff. Was he eating separate to me? Perfect! As soon as the door closed, I bolted for the back door. I opened it and ran as fast as I could. However, when I tried to shift I couldn’t. What was happening?
Kis, are you stopping the shift? I asked but she didn’t answer. I growled angrily and ran as fast as I could away from the cabin. I was quick as a wolf but not as a human. I didn’t know which direction my packs border was either, but I would figure that out once I had distance from Tracker. As I was running, I suddenly heard a loud, almost sad howl and knew Tracker had realised I was running. But why was it sad? Surely hed be angry? I headed for a large tree with plenty of coverage and climbed it, before slowly steadying my heartbeat. I also threw the shirt he had given me down to the ground in the hopes he thought I’d transformed. Tracker ran straight past my hiding spot, his fury clear on his face, even as a wolf. He spotted the shirt and grabbed it in his mouth before heading in the direction it had been. I had to stifle a laugh. Silly wolf. If he was my mate hed have been able to smell my scent.
I waited until I couldn’t smell or hear him anymore. Scanning the area around me, as far as I could see, I sniffed the air once more for his scent before heading down the tree. However, no sooner as I hit the ground, was I tackled from behind. I screamed out as Tracker pinned me to the ground in his human form.
“How the…” I asked breathlessly. He growled at me, and I could see him fighting with his wolf for control.
“I told you not to run!” He growled. “You’re mine! Not his!” I struggled under him, thrashing around, tears forming in my eyes at him holding me against the damp, muddy ground. I was screaming out and trying to get free.
“I’m my own person Tracker!” I screamed, hysterically. But instead of replying he hit me. He actually hit me. I was shocked and scared. He had slapped me so hard I could feel blood well up at the side of my lip. I glared at him; I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing me cry. However, he clearly saw the defiance in my eyes as I saw him fighting with his wolf again. I managed to choke out in bitterness… “I’ll keep running Tracker, I love Chase, screw the stupid moon goddess!” This was clearly the wrong thing to say as this caused him to life his hand again, his rage was unreal, but it wasn’t his wolf in control. I saw his eyes and saw it was himself, his rage was clearly his own. I closed my eyes waiting for the blow but it didn’t come.
“Do not EVER say that!” He screamed into my face instead. Suddenly his eyes shifted again, the not quite red of a rogue but definitely not his normal coloured eyes, there was also a hint of a dark blue swirl. He growled angrily suddenly, as if in reply to his wolf, and got up throwing me over his shoulder. “Don’t try this again Karma! I don’t want to hurt you but you’re mine!” I struggled.
“Let me go!” I screamed hitting his back as he carried me back towards his home. I struggled the entire way. We entered the house, and he threw me onto the bed I woke up on. I pushed myself onto my elbows, ready to jump up but he was suddenly on me. He pushed me down and straddled my stomach. I raised my hands to push him off or hit him or something, but he grabbed my arms and put them above my head. It was only in this moment that I realised I was naked, and fear suddenly snaked around the feeling of defiance.
“Stop fighting Karma!” He growled. “I won’t hurt you again if you don’t fight…” He sounded sincere and almost… sad? I was caught off guard and stopped struggling. I looked worriedly at Tracker who was again shifting between himself and his wolf. He was clearly battling control over something but what was it? My nakedness? The fact I wasn’t doing what he asked?
“Erm… Tracker?” I questioned, scared and a little angry. He stopped communicating with his wolf and before either of us could say anything more he dropped his head and kissed me. I couldn’t fight him off, it started off hungrily but eventually he calmed down and the kiss was actually…
Pleasurable? Kismet offered.
I didn’t answer but anger filled me, realising I was enjoying the kiss. Tracker had finally let go of one of my hands and was twisting his hand in my hair. I thought about trying to hit him but the sparks running through me made me rethink things. Why?
Just enjoy it Kar, stop overthinking… Kismet encouraged. But something stopped me from enjoying it. Tracker’s hand had found its way to my stomach. I panicked, realising I hadn’t even noticed how he was stroking me and pulled away from the kiss.
“Tracker!” I squeaked out, causing him to make eye contact with me. “Stop!” I shouted.
“I’m not doing anything?” He looked at me confused.
“You’re touching me and …” I blushed.
“I was just stroking your body, Karma; you were enjoying the kiss…” He said. “I told you we were meant to be together; the sparks are amazing. I won’t do anything you don’t want, just enjoy it!” He said before leaning forward for another kiss. I turned my head away and shook it.
“Please stop Tracker!” He growled and got off me.
“Fine, but I will have you!” He bellowed leaving the room and slamming the door behind him. I sat up, putting my face into my hands. He hadn’t done anything, but I hated how much I had enjoyed that kiss. I felt so guilty! I thought about Chase and curled up on the bed. I cried and eventually fell asleep. The last thing I heard in my mind was a female voice telling me it would all work out.
