Chapter 8 – Secrets?

Karmas POV

I stood there, staring after the guy I now know was named Tracker. I could not believe what he was saying. The past nearly two months everything was brilliant with me and Chase. Id felt the sparks when we held hands and kissed, everyone seemed happy. Alpha George has started training Chase in more Alpha duties, and he seemed to be doing extremely well except for his hot headedness. Tracker was right though; Kismet knew there was something there with Tracker. I needed to find out who tracker was and quickly.

I walked back to the house, cradling my book. I investigated the front room and noticed that most of the young guys in the pack were on the Xbox, drunkenly shooting each other in some sort of weird first-person shooter. I walked away, smiling, as Chase was one of those guys. I didn’t want to interrupt him, so decided to head up to Alpha Georges room to ask a few questions. I walked up the stairs, still holding my book, the blanket draped over my shoulders. I was just about to reach the Alphas door when I heard shouting coming from a few rooms down from the Alphas office.

“They need to be told!” This was a female’s voice; I was sure it was Aunt Leah’s voice, but I couldn’t be sure as it was more hysterical than I’d ever heard her. I didn’t want to move any more forward as I was sure they’d hear me, and I didn’t want to interrupt whatever it was. I was about to turn to go when I head Alpha George’s angry tone answering back.

“Tell them what? We don’t know if this has anything to do with us!”

“Of course, it does, after what we did. How could we not expect repercussions for Chase?”

“But its Karma who has two mates, not Chase, she is not related to us, so how could it be down to us? Karma’s wolf is simply confused.” I had to stop myself growling at this, and not because Kismet was growling this time. I was sick to death of being told what I was feeling! What was Aunt Leah talking about? What had they done?

“The moon goddess always has plans; you know what happened when we…. We did what we did...” Aunt Leah hissed the last bit at Alpha George.

“Maybe so, but if Karma does indeed have two mates, then that is something she will have to deal with, not us.” Alpha George seemed to be getting tired of the argument. I decided I should probably move and fast.

“It’s something to do with us if Chase gets heartbroken George!” Aunt Leah shouted after him as I heard a hand land on the door handle. I turned and walked as quietly and as fast as I could. For some reason tears had started streaming down my face. Did Aunt Leah know I felt the pull more to Tracker? Is that why she thought Chase would get hurt? I shook my head and headed to my room. I wouldn’t choose that strange rogue over Chase, I loved him, had done since I was old enough to know what these feelings were. No amount of moon goddess magic was going to tell me otherwise. I felt the sparks with him and adored him! Chase was mine, no one else! I opened my room door and sat myself on my bed, putting my head into my hands. What was happening, everything was fine a few months ago, I was harbouring a secret love for Chase, we were planning birthday parties and I was happy in my role of best friend, confidant and Omega to the Alpha and Luna. I needed answers! I decided to head to the pack library, I wanted to see if I could find any information on multiple mates.

Chases POV

I’d noticed Karma had come in from the outside and quickly finished my game with the other guys. Waving bye to them they barely noticed I had left and carried on drinking and playing. I saw her head upstairs and wondered what she was doing and why she didn’t sense me behind her. I started sneaking upstairs to surprise her when I saw her stop, I heard shouting voices. It was my mum and dad arguing, which almost never happened. I was about to walk towards Karma but stopped when I heard my mum.

“Of course, it does, after what we did. How could we not expect repercussions for Chase?”

What the heck was she on about? What had they done? I noticed Karma was stood extremely still listening to this. I started backing up, ready to hit the stairs if they came out of the room or if Karma saw me. I didn’t want her to think I had caught her eavesdropping on my parents.

Seconds later a crying Karma walked past me and headed to her room, I wanted to comfort her but there were more pressing matters to talk about with my mum. I headed towards their room and noticed dad walking towards me.

“Hi Chase, are you ok?” He asked, as if nothing had just happened.

“Yeah dad, just looking for mum, she in your room?” I asked as calmly as I could. What was he hiding from me? He just nodded and carried on towards his office, his face stoic. I turned to watch him walk and he looked back at me before heading into his office. His eyes were narrowed but he smiled slightly.

They’re hiding something involving them, but it clearly ties into you and Karma. Ace growled into my mind.

I know Ace, but what?

Will mum tell us anything, you think?

If either of the two were to tell me, mum would be our more likely chance. I answered as I reached their room. I knocked and didn’t wait for an answer. I walked into my mum wiping her eyes.

“Oh Chase…” She said, straightening herself up and getting up to cuddle me. I didn’t answer and just slowly crossed my arms. “You heard, didn’t you?” She asked, looking at the floor.

“I did, care to explain what you meant? Karma also heard by the way; she just doesn’t know I heard…” I trailed off, heading to the bed to sit down. Mum dropped onto the bed and put her head into her hands and started talking…

I exited the room after speaking to my mum, I couldn’t get my head around what she had told me. Dad had grown up with my mum, they had fell in love and were sure they were mates, but when he turned 18 he found out he had two mates, upon talking to his dad it made more sense for him to pick my mum, they had grown up together mum was a beta at her old pack and the other wolf was an omega, so dad decided to take my mum and he rejected the other wolf. They were worried they had somehow upset the moon goddess, and this was their punishment. I didn’t understand why mum would think I would be the one ending up getting hurt. Karma loved me as I did her. I’d promised not to tell dad I knew or to tell Karma. It made no sense to upset things anyway. The other wolf Karma had supposedly felt sparks with was a rogue and probably not allowed on pack territory, so as long as I marked her quickly on her 18th birthday, she would lose any possible feeling she had for him after that.

I headed to Karmas room and found she wasn’t there, I remembered she was holding a book so realised she had probably gone to return it to the library and headed that way. I opened the door and found her asleep on a pile of old pages and books. One of the pages was wet as were her cheeks, she had clearly been crying. I slowly stroked her face of the tears. She stirred and looked up at me, her beautiful blue grey eyes seemed sleepy but there was a hint of happiness within them.

“Chase, what time is it?” I looked at my watch.

“A little after 9.” I answered smiling.

“9am? Crap!” She jumped up in shock, I grabbed her shoulders.

“No, 9pm.” She looked confused.

“What? I only came in here half an hour ago then. Weren’t you having fun with the guys and drinking?” I smiled again and pulled her in for a kiss, she was always so thoughtful, worrying about me being sociable while she was crying to herself in here. She returned the kiss, albeit groggily but she still smiled when I pulled away.

“I sensed you come inside so I finished up with the guys and came to find you, I’d much rather spend time with you.” She slowly blushed and put her head onto my chest as I held her close. “Shall we go watch a movie?” She nodded into my chest. “Let’s go, we’ll tidy up tomorrow.” I turned to lead her out of the library, but not before noticing what she had been reading. There was history book about rejecting mates as well as a history of having two mates and some scrolls about the moon goddess. I didn’t think I had anything to worry about. I smiled and we headed to my room to watch some movies and cuddle.
