As we got closer to the bridge binding the mountains and the kingdom, we saw snow and ice covering the ground like a blanket, I felt a bit skeptical for the horses to ride through the snow on a bridge but Tharion gave the go ahead and started to ride over with no worry as if he has been here before. I found it strange that he would venture this far out of the kingdom on his own. Yes, I never knew him before he saved my life from the king and queen but he seems like the kind of person to keep to himself more than interact with someone unless truly needed be.
The bridge makes terrible sounds as the horses set food on it scaring them to no end, they were trashing around like something was chasing after them and they had to get away, the few steps we had to take to cross took forever due to the sounds and horses getting scared. When the last step was taken, we were knee deep in the icy cold snow freezing my legs.
“how long will it take to get to this person we seek?” unsure of the answer I would get as it looked like he heard none of it, looking out on the horizon clearly seeing something in the distance though I couldn’t see anything other than snow and big boulders broken off the mountains.
“Tharion??” I called after him as he got on his horses back and started riding forward.
“What’s going on with you you’ve been so quite ever since we crossed that damned bridge.??”
He looked at me and only motioned with his hand to keep quiet and follow him, which I did in the end. It was hard for the horses to travel through the thick white layers of now but the kept going even if they had me on them as well. In the distance you could see smoke going into the sky as if it was smoke from a chimney, it put a smile on my face kind of knowing we are closer to our destination knowing my future would change from where we meet the mysterious witch.
As we traveled further the smoke became more visible and a house started coming into view a house almost as big as the castle I use to live in, I looked over at Tharion seeing him looking at it as well he started picking up speed making me do the same, in a few minutes we were at the door steps of something completely unknown to me.
It looked like this was nothing to him as he touched the door knocking twice and the waiting with a small pause and knocking once more, as if he knew just how to invite himself in the door opened showing an old lady yet she looked beautifully well looked after with grey hair hanging just below her shoulder blades and eyes full of life a colour of pure violet something I’ve never seen before Tharion immediately bowed down as if he was greeting a queen. She told him to rise and go in saying she wanted to have a word with me.
Before she had the chance to say anything while alone with me outside i blurted out how I felt about her. “You are Beautiful” was what I said quickly snapping a hand over my mouth rapidly saying sorry for speaking out of turn. She gave me a soft smile the sort of smile my mother use to give me before father’s death, the one that said she cared. I looked down in shame cause of my manners and sorrow cause of the love I lost many years ago.
Nothing much was said between us other than her asking me to show my mark which now glows with a white blue colour I was amazed at first but when I looked up and saw the witch’s facial expression, I got scared quickly covering up my mark and taking one step back.
Confused by why I stepped away she tilted her head like I animal that seemed confused. I explained that the look she had on her face gave me a fright. She smiled saying that it was nothing to worry about, that what made her confused was the colour of my mark that I would soon find out for myself what it meant.
We walked into the castle like house only to be greeted by warmth that hit me like a tidal wave and almost knocked me over, I heard a deep chuckle. When I looked up, I came face to face with Tharion and a smile which only shocked me more because that was a rare sight for me.
I have been quite most of the night except the occasional question asked in my direction mostly about how I found my mark or what happened on mine and Tharion’s travels here. I answered just as I should, sometimes only with a nod or a smile. Crystal the witch made a soup for that tasted as good as Tharion’s but not better, I looked up at his and prepared myself to ask them about the similar taste in the soups, but before I could as Crystal answered the question.
“Tharion showed me how to make the soup, he shoved me what ingredients to use for flavour and which to use to make your stomach full.” She said smiling his way. I just nodded my heard in an understanding manner.
When we finished it was a matter of everyone getting a good nights sleep because tomorrow we have training in order to see what kind of rider we would be even though we already know we are the queen and worrier we still have to train to control so called power that come with the responsibility of having a dragon.
Goodnights sleep was an understatement because an hour of lying awake just staring at the sealing took a toll on me and I decided to get some fresh air. I opened my bedroom door and walked to the front door which was open for some odd reason, when I got out side I saw the older lady sitting in the garden seeming to be talking to flowers. I walked closer trying to be as quite as possible when a twig snapped under my feet and she looked in my direction.
She smiled when she saw it was me a gestured for me to chin her, I complied. When I got closer, she patted the seat next to her silently telling me to sit.
I watched as her hands moved with grace a bright purple colour coming from her hands, it enchanted me, how her hands moved and her body followed after, suddenly realizing that the flowers around us hand started moving with the motion of her hands, I was amazed to say the least. I looked up at her clearly asking the question she knew was on my mind to which she smiled and nodded.
“The colour of your mark represents which kind of mage you are not only that but also pinpoints you dragon’s element and the shape of your mark shows you what rank you are and the size shows you how strong your dragon would be. When you first learn of your dragon mark it is small barely noticeable but the more you learn and use your powers the bigger it gets until you find your dragon.” She says as her hands continue moving with the Rose.
“Your mark already covers half of the front part of your shoulder, that tells me you have quite a strong dragon, but you must remember when you meet your dragon he/she will become a part of your you will share blood, you will have the blood of a dragon.” I nodded my head in understanding, I read about a rider and a dragon sharing blood it meant they would be one in emotion and body they would be one in mine and soul.
It was silent for a couple of minutes before I decided I wanted to ask her something.
“Could you show me something of the power that lays dormant with in me?” She looked at me looking deep into my eyes, as if looking for any sign of doubt but she saw none because she stood up and gestured for me to follow her which I complied with.
She led me to a small fountain like structured that’s broken down and dry as if there has been no water here in ages. I looked at her as she took as seat on the side patting the open spot next to her, I sat down keeping quite waiting for her to speak.
She finally looked at me and smiled, “Calm your mind, open your ears and hear the sound of water running below the surface. Feel the waters underneath your feet as it flows with strength yet with a touch of gentleness.”
I closed my eyes and thought of the ocean, I thought back to when we use to live in the house right next to the beach I thought of my dad playing with me in the sand and mom watching us from the beach, but bad memories started flooding my mind and I see the ocean get wild, I saw dark clouds covering the once bright skies and rain falling, rain that represented my tears. Thunder shook the ground and the ocean roared back.
I heard my name being called but I couldn’t open my eyes as the waves took me, arms rapped around me and held me in a cloud like warm embrace, the ocean calmed and the skies turned light blue, the figures of my passed vanished and I felt my eye lids become light so that they opened on their own accord. When I looked around me, I saw the ground broken with spikes of ice standing like brutal sculptures.
My eyes opened wide in horror I looked back at the person holding me it was Tharoin, his whole body glowed a bright red as his mark and mine glowed together. His hair raised into the air as if it was levitating, his eyes where closed but opened when I whispered his name. They were a bright red as he looked into my eyes.
“What happened?” I asked as I looked around us once more.
“I don’t know, but we heard Violet screaming for help. When we got out side you where levitating in the air with a blue glow around you, Crystal told me to the only was to calm your inner demons was to channel my magic as calmly as possible, which was hard me being fire and all that” He said in a somewhat light tone trying to sooth the serious situation were dealing with.
Crystal and Violet came to the pond that’s now broken into pieces with ice spikes everywhere, Crystal looked amazed while Violet looked to be deep in thought about something. She called Crystal to the side quickly whispering in her ear to which Crystal nodded and whispered something back.
They came back a few minutes later looking at me with a worried expression causing Tharion to move away from me leaving me to the cold of night.
“For now, go sleep we will discuss what happened in the morning, no need to worry Liza (My nick Name) “Was all Crystal said as she walked back in to the house with Violet and Tharion fallowing her.
I walked after them to my room, as soon as my head hit the pillow my eyes closed and I fell asleep with one thought on my mind.
Tomorrow will be one long day.
