MARRIED TO ANDREW

Chapter 5

Melissa stared at her phone as she read the message over again.

"What!" She exclaimed. "How did she get to know about my new life?"

She bowed her head as she was angry and felt sad.

Her phone began to ring, and she picked it up and looked into the screen. It was her best friend, Anna calling.

She took in a deep breath as she wondered if she should answer the call. She answered the call.

"Hello." She said, immediately answering the call.

"Hi Melissa, how are you doing?" Anna asked.

"I am doing fine. I saw your missed calls. I am sorry for not picking up." She said.

"It's okay. I called you to confirm if what I heard is true." Anna said.

"What is it that you heard?" Melissa asked with a sigh.

"I heard from Emilia that you already have a husband and I want to know how true it is? Do not lie to me." Anna said.

Melissa, who had been holding her breath since she heard the name Emilia from Anna, began to sob.

"What is wrong, Melissa?" Anna asked, worried.

"It's true. I was really shocked when I got to know about it." Melissa said. "Whereas how did Emilia get to know about it?"

"I do not know. I should be asking you that." Anna said.

Melissa looked sadly into the air, then continued.

"What about Drake?" She asked.

"You shouldn't be asking me. You promised to live your whole life with him," Anna said. "You promised to spend your married life with him. I wonder how he is going to feel as he is your boyfriend."

Tears flowed down Melissa's eyes as she remembered all they had gone through and how they had promised to choose the same college to be together. Little did she know that this would happen.

"Are you still on the line?" Anna asked, making Melissa remember that she was on a call.

She wiped the tears off her face and cleared her throat.

"Yes I am." She replied.

"Are you in tears?" Anna asked.

"No, I am not." She said.

"What about Drake?" Anna asked. "What will be of your love?"

"I saw his calls, but I couldn't and don't know how to call him back." Melissa said.

"I do understand it is not pleasant, but I would advise that you call him to let him know the truth." Anna said.

"I am going to try." Melissa said.

"You should do it and not just try." Anna said. "I would have to end the call right now, bye."

Melissa looked at her phone screen after the call had ended and thought about what to say to Drake.

"How is it going to sound to Drake?" She asked herself and deliberated on not calling Drake.

She turned to the chips which were in front of her and began to eat. She picked up a fried chicken and also ate it.

She ate for some minutes and drank the water in front of her.

She got up to leave for the living room in order to meet with her sister-in-law. Her phone began to ring, and she picked it up and looked at the name which was displayed on the screen, and she saw Drake's name. She kept staring at the phone as she didn't know if she should answer the call or not.

"If I pick this call, I don't know how I will feel seeing Sophia." She said to herself.

Nevertheless, she answered the call on the second ring without looking at the name which was displayed on the screen.

"Hello." She said in tears.

"You sound like you are in tears." A husky voice was heard.

She took her phone off her ear and looked at the screen. She didn't know who it was as it displayed an unknown number.

"Who is this?" She asked.

"Andrew, your husband." The caller answered.

"Andrew, where are you?" She asked.

"I am at the club." He answered.

Melissa looked shocked as she wondered why a married man would leave his wife for the club.

"Doing what?" She asked.

"What else do you want me to do rather than chill in the club?" He asked.

Melissa stared into empty space as she didn't know what to say.

"I just called to check on you as I didn't want to disturb you while going out, which is the reason I didn't wake you." He said.

"Okay." Melissa said.

"Do enjoy the house." Andrew said.

"Alright. Thank you." Melissa said.

The call ended and Melissa smiled, holding her phone.

"Does this mean he already loves me?" She asked no one but herself.

She dialed Drake's number.

"Hello Melissa." Drake spoke first on answering the call as he had so many things to inquire of her.

"Hello Drake." She said softly and this got Drake angry.

"How could you betray me? How can you betray the love that we shared?" He asked.

"Drake!" Melissa called.

"Answer me." He shouted.

"Who told you about it?" She asked with tears.

"Emilia made me know about it." He answered. "How could you betray our love?"

"Drake!" Melissa called.

"I need answers!" Drake shouted.

Melissa could feel the emotions in his words.

"I can explain." She said with a shaking voice and walked towards the door and closed it.

"Alright, go on. I am listening." Drake said.

Melissa began by explaining how her mother told her about the visitor and ended with how she finally accepted to leave with Andrew.

They both wept for some minutes, then Drake spoke up.

"We are calling our relationship quit." Drake said and Melissa burst into another round of tears.

He ended the call and Melissa could only think of how her life would be without him.

"Anyway, I have Andrew to myself and I know that he loves me." She said to herself, wiping off her tears.

She opened her messenger and messaged Emilia asking her how she got to know about her new life. Fortunately, Emilia was online so she immediately replied.

"Who informed you about me?" She asked.

"Sophia, your sister-in-law." Emilia replied.

"How did you get to know her?" Melissa asked.

"Ouch, she is one of my best friends." Emilia replied with a smiling emoji. "Thanks to her, Drake won't be thinking of you when you can't be his."

This irritated Melissa. She looked at her phone angrily and walked out of her room to confront Sophia, ending the call.
