Chapter 2: Pulled Into The Unknown

1012 Words
"Sasha! What if it's an evil entity?" She stated nervously, causing me to stop for a moment. Something about her warning, left worry and anxiety in its wake. And I peered further into the distance, unsure of what she was talking about. For all I knew, it could've only been the wind. But her next words sent goosebumps down my spine. "Just think about it. Why, after ten years, would we hear something calling our name?" Ana asked, her voice filling with sincerity, and I shrugged my shoulders internally. Hearing those words come from her mouth, I felt my brain go into overdrive. In all honesty, I wasn't ready for the incoming chaos of my new life. "Ana, are you certain of that? These woods have been owned by our family for many generations." I questioned, my heart beginning to palpitate. Instead of quelling my worries, she told me something a little different, making my blood boil. "Sasha, you understand that we could end up getting hurt if you follow their call," Ana said, trying her hardest to turn me around. Yet, I wasn't going to heed her words. Not until I know it to be true. "Quit it with that! Our mom, 10 years ago, made us move here for safety reasons. And now you want to warn me of something that we don't know about?" I answered, my voice in my mind taking on a soft, measured tone. "I see where you're coming from. However, you need to hear what I'm telling you!" Ana stated, her frustration rising rapidly. But with every word she spoke, I felt myself listening intently to her. I never thought of that before. There's no evil entity in this world. There can't be! I wondered, rolling my eyes at her antics. I mean, who was she to say that to me, her own human? Not ready to believe her, I spoke to Ana, my mind filled with anger. "I don't believe that to be true. Who in their right mind would do that to us?" I answered her back sarcastically. Yet, my heart was telling me there was something out there. But what could it be? "Come on, Sasha! You can't be serious! You remember when our mom, Goddess rest her soul. She told us to be careful out here." Ana spoke, anger coursing through her veins. Amid the doubt circling my mind, she paced back and forth, her anxiety fueling my brain. "Do you hear what I'm telling you?" Ana screamed in my mind, causing my hands to clench and unclench. Ugh, what's her problem? Doesn't she feel the pull? I pondered, rubbing my arms up and down. The air around me stiffened, like I couldn't breathe. It was as though I had to take a breather, even for just a moment. So, I made my way to the front of the pack house, ready to step outside. Then, out of nowhere, I felt someone touch my shoulder. "Where are you going, Sasha?" They asked, their voice filled with curiosity. "N... Nowhere... Just out for a walk." I stuttered, turning around to face the person who asked me the question. Standing in front of me was none other than Sandra, who'd been on this journey with me since day one. My jaw dropped in shock, not expecting her to be right behind me As I observed her face, her lips drooped almost immediately. And my heart started to beat rapidly inside my chest. I wonder what's wrong with her. The way she's looking is as though I'm in deep trouble. I pondered, inhaling and exhaling, until finally, she spoke up. "I don't believe you. Better yet, I'm coming with you." My beta, Sandra, stated, her voice just above a whisper. Without another word, I pushed the front door open, and a horde of smells filled my nostrils. Oh my Moon Goddess! What's that scent? I thought while lifting my nose and sniffing the air. "Sasha! Follow the smell! When you do, you'll find something you like!" Somebody stated, urging my feet forward. Slowly, I inched my way, following the scent, and the grass underneath my feet crunched. The further I walked, the scent became more pungent. "Sandra, do you smell that?" I asked, turning to face her, yet she wasn't right next to me. So, I opened the mind-link between us. "Hey, Sandra! Where are you?" I questioned, afraid to be alone after all these years. For a few minutes, there was nothing but silence. Suddenly, a deep, gruff voice rang through the air, breaking me out of my thoughts. "Sash! Is that you?" They asked, curiosity filling each word. Who's... Who is talking to me? Why does this person's voice sound familiar? I thought, trying to figure out who it was. Then, the stranger placed a hand on my shoulder, turning me to face them. Upon doing that, my jaw dropped in shock. I couldn't believe my eyes. There he was after 10 years apart. "Mate! He's our mate!" Ana declared, pushing her way to the forefront of my bond. Not ready to accept her words, I ignored her and focused on my best friend that I hadn't seen in a long time. "Adam! Is that really you?" I asked, astonished to see him so suddenly. For so long, my heart was torn in half, like a piece of me was missing, and now, I can finally say it's back together. "Yes, it's me. But what happened to you? Why did you leave me?" Adam asked, wiping away a stray tear from his eyes. "I... My... My mom forced me to move, but I didn't want to." I stated, a wrack of sobs beginning to fill up my body. Instinctively, he pulled me into a huge hug, allowing me to relieve the emotions that I kept locked in my heart. The last time we saw each other, there were tears of sadness, and now, I don't know how to feel. And now, it's like everything and nothing has changed at the same time.
