Chapter Four: Mysterious Disappearance When I arrived home the next day, I was greeted by my father's furious expression. His brows furrowed, he scolded me, questioning where I had been. "Dad, there's no need to worry so much! I'm not a child anymore, I can take care of myself," I insisted, trying to ease his concerns. But his anger didn't subside. "But Elara, I've been looking for you everywhere! You shouldn't have disappeared like that without letting anyone know," he replied, his worry evident in his voice. I took a deep breath, realizing that my sudden absence had caused unnecessary distress. "I'm sorry, Dad. It's just that I met someone who needed my help. I couldn't turn away, even though it meant being away from home for a while." He sighed, his stern expression softening. "I understand that you're a kind-hearted person, Elara. But please remember to communicate with us, your family, when you're going to be away for an extended period of time. We worry about your safety." Feeling chastened, I nodded, promising to be more responsible in the future. As we sat down at the kitchen table, I shared the events of the past few days with my father and explained why I felt compelled to help. His furrowed brows slowly turned into a look of understanding. "I'm proud of you, Elara. Your kindness and willingness to help others are admirable. Just remember to take care of yourself as well." Those words warmed my heart and gave me the confidence to continue with my efforts. The following days were filled with assisting people in need and lending a helping hand wherever I could. Whether it was volunteering at the local shelter or organizing community events, I felt a sense of purpose and fulfillment. As I sat at the Dinning table, still buzzing with excitement from my encounter with the mysterious Adrain, I couldn't help but share the details with my father. He listened intently, his brows furrowed in concern. "Oh, Elara, be careful," my father cautioned. "Not all that glitters is gold, you know. You must approach this with caution. You mentioned something about Adrain not being allowed to fall in love. Do you have any idea why?" I paused, trying to recollect the details of our conversation. "He mentioned something about a history pact, but he didn't elaborate much. It seemed like a sensitive topic, and I didn't want to pry. But I could tell there was a heaviness in his words." My father sighed, his expression filled with depth. "There are things in this world we may not fully understand, my dear. Perhaps Adrain is dealing with circumstances that make it difficult for him to pursue love. It could be a family matter or even, as impossible as it may sound, something supernatural." I stared at my father, a mix of curiosity and concern in my eyes. "Supernatural? You think Adrain could be...a werewolf?" My father chuckled softly, a glimmer of amusement in his eyes. "Oh Elara, let's not jump to conclusions. Werewolves and other paranormal creatures are nothing more than folktales, myths, and legends. But, who am I to say what's real and what's not?" I leaned forward, eager for more information. "But there must be a way to find out. If Adrain is indeed hiding something, shouldn't I confront him about it?" My father placed a comforting hand on mine. "Elara, it's important to remember that everyone has their secrets. If Adrain shared something personal with you, it means he trusts you. Give him time and space to open up if he wishes to. Pushing too hard may drive him away. The truth will reveal itself when the time is right." I nodded, absorbing my father's words of wisdom. Patience was key, especially when it came to matters of the heart. I couldn't help but wonder what hidden secrets Adrain held within, and if they posed a threat to our budding connection. However, amidst the joy of making a difference, a puzzling mystery started to unfold. One evening, as I was heading home from the shelter, I walked past a dimly lit alley. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a shadowy figure lurking in the shadows. Intrigued, I slowed my pace and peered closer. The figure seemed to be surreptitiously observing a nearby building. Something about this sent a shiver down my spine. My curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to investigate further. As I cautiously approached the building, a sudden gust of wind swept through the alley, causing a chill to run down my spine. Goosebumps formed on my arms, but my determination pushed me forward. Unbeknownst to me, I was about to uncover a secret that would set off a chain of events I never could have anticipated. As I drew nearer, I noticed a faint light seeping through a c***k in the door. Curiosity getting the best of me, I pushed the door open slightly and peeked inside. What I saw took my breath away. The dimly lit room contained a large table covered in maps, documents, and photographs. It looked like a command center of some sort. And there, at the center of it all, was a picture of myself. Confusion and fear welled up within me. How could my picture be here? Who were these people, and what were they planning? Questions flooded my mind, and I knew I had to find answers. I tiptoed further into the room, trying my best to remain undetected. But just as I was about to examine the documents on the table, a noise behind me made my heart jump in my chest. Turning around, I came face-to-face with a man in a dark suit, his piercing eyes locked onto me. He wore a sinister grin that sent shivers down my spine. Before I could react, he lunged towards me, his hand reaching for a concealed object. Instinct propelled me into action. I ducked and rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding his grasp. I bolted towards the door, ignoring the adrenaline coursing through my veins. As I rushed out into the alley, I heard his footsteps behind me, getting closer with each passing second. My heart pounded in my chest as I sprinted through the darkened streets, desperate to escape his clutches. Fear intensified with every step, but I refused to let it paralyze me. I had to find a way to expose the truth and protect myself before it was too late. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, I managed to lose my pursuer in the winding alleys. Gasping for breath, I found temporary solace in the shadow of a nearby building. Sweat dripped down my forehead as I attempted to collect my thoughts. Who were those people in the secret chamber? And why were they targeting me?.
