CAMILLE’S POV
We drove for almost thirty minutes before stopping outside a massive building downtown.
Glass. Steel. Money.
I had never been to this side of town.
The huge man opened the car door and led me inside.
We took the elevator to the top floor in silence. When the doors opened, he led me down a quiet hallway before stopping outside a large suite.
“The boss will be with you shortly,” he said stiffly.
Then he walked away before I could reply.
Jerk.
I stepped inside slowly.
The room was huge. Bigger than some apartments I’d seen. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the city, soft music played somewhere in the background, and the entire suite smelled expensive.
I quickly texted Bri.
I’m here. Still alive.
Then I shoved my phone away and tried calming my nerves.
This was really happening.
I wasn’t a virgin—Alex had been my first—but s*x had always been occasional, something squeezed between exhaustion and work. But this? This was different.
And what did I even expect from a stranger?
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary yet, but unease coiled in my gut. Who knew what kind of man I was truly dealing with?
“Welcome, Miss Summers.”
I jumped so hard I almost screamed.
Romeo leaned against the doorway, watching me with amusement.
Tonight he looked unfairly good. Black shorts. White button-down with the sleeves rolled up. Relaxed. Dangerous.
His eyes slowly moved over me.
“No special dress?” he asked casually.
I frowned. “Was I supposed to arrive in a ball gown?”
He laughed softly and walked toward me.
“Before we do anything,” I blurted quickly, “I need proof you’re clean.”
He blinked once.
Then smirked.
“I don’t do drugs, Miss Summers.”
“That's not what I mean,” I clarified, swallowing hard. “Not that, I need proof you're not a walking STI,”
"I'll call my doctor," he said, "and get my 'I'm Not a Walking STI certificate right away!" He mocked, and I rolled my eyes in response.
Arrogant Jerk!
I crossed my arms, glaring at him. “I don’t know how many women you force into your bed every week, and frankly, I don’t care. But I’m not about to risk catching whatever diseases you might have.”
Something flickered in his eyes… he looked angry but it didn't look like it was directed at me. He let out a low curse, pulled out his phone, and dialed a number.
“My doctor,” he said simply.
A few seconds later, a sleepy male voice answered.
I crossed my arms while the doctor confirmed Romeo tested regularly and was completely clean.
Still, I narrowed my eyes suspiciously.
“And how do I know you’re not lying?”
The doctor sounded offended.
“You’re welcome to visit Everest Health Center in Beverly Hills. I can show you the official test results myself.”
Like I could afford tickets to Beverly Hills. Actually I could cause I just got paid 50 thousand dollars
I rolled my eyes and heard the call dropping.
I refused to look up at him, he was so close I could smell his expensive cologne. I wasn’t ready, but it didn’t look like I had a choice. He tossed his phone on the bed, grabbed my waist, and tipped my jaw up to look into my eyes.
His eyes were filled with desire, it was clear and unspoken. But it was more than that—he had this taunting look like he was expecting me to back out of this.
“In contrast to what you might think, Mrs. Summers, I don’t usually do this,” he murmured, his voice low and rough. “But it’s out of my hands. So let’s just get this over with.”
Before I could respond, he kissed my neck.
My entire body stiffened.
Then his lips found mine.
Warm. Slow. Dangerous.
The second his tongue brushed mine, I gasped and pulled back instinctively.
He smelled faintly like whiskey.
A cocky grin spread across his face instantly.
“There she is.”
Before I could process that comment, he lifted me effortlessly onto the edge of the table.
My pulse went insane.
“You’re nervous,” he murmured against my lips.
“No shit.”
He laughed quietly.
Then leaned closer again, his voice low enough to send chills down my spine.
“Relax, Camille.” His fingers brushed my jaw gently. “I promise…” His eyes darkened slightly. “You’re going to remember tonight for a very long time.”
And as everything else faded away, I knew he was right. I will never forget this.
***
I groaned as another loud thud echoed through the room, dragging me out of sleep.
Every part of my body ached.
I shifted under the sheets with a wince, suddenly very aware of how sore I was… and how ridiculously soft this bed felt.
Last night came back in flashes.
His hands.
His mouth.
The way he kept pulling sounds out of me I didn’t even know I could make.
Heat rushed to my face.
God.
We’d gone three rounds before I finally passed out from exhaustion.
Another loud thud outside the door snapped me fully awake.
I sat up quickly, clutching the sheet to my chest. My underwear hung off the dresser across the room, and the entire suite still smelled like him.
Whiskey. Expensive cologne. s*x.
My stomach twisted.
I glanced around for Romeo, but his clothes were gone.
“He left,” I whispered to myself.
Good.
That was definitely a good thing.
Because if I had to look him in the eye after literally begging him to—
Nope.
Absolutely not.
I buried my face in my hands with a groan.
What the hell was wrong with me?
Shaking the thought away, I climbed out of bed and threw my clothes back on as fast as possible.
I grabbed my phone from the nightstand—
Then froze.
His watch sat beside it.
Along with his tie.
And his phone.
My stomach dropped.
He didn’t leave.
Okay. Fine.
Still avoidable.
I snatched up my bag and headed straight for the door. We’d both gotten what we wanted. There was nothing left to say.
The suite was massive in daylight. Last night I’d barely noticed anything outside the bedroom.
I looked around trying to remember which way the exit was. I gave up and walked down the hallway, hoping I would find it.
I wandered down the hallway trying to find the exit when another loud thud echoed through the penthouse.
Followed by a low groan.
I stopped cold.
“What the hell…”
The sound came from somewhere farther down the hall.
Slowly, against every survival instinct in my body, I walked toward it.
A door stood slightly ajar at the end of the hallway.
I pressed closer carefully, trying to hear something
Nothing.
I frowned and turned to leave.
Bang!
I jumped violently, my heart nearly stopping.
The door shifted open from where I leaned against it.
And my breath caught instantly.
Romeo stood in the middle of the room with a gun in his hand.
A body lay face-down at his feet.
Blood spread slowly across the floor beneath it.
Oh my God.
My entire body went numb.
I stumbled backward instinctively, panic crashing into me all at once.
Run.
Run right f*****g now.
I turned—
And slammed directly into something solid behind me.
I crashed into something solid. No… not something. Someone.
My stomach dropped.
Oh, s**t.
