Without stripping his bed of its sheets or saying anything to me, Gilliand ran down ahead of me.
After taking a shower, I assembled my bed sheets and laundry.
Next, I removed Gilliand’s pillowcases and top sheet. At both bed corners, I then grabbed and pulled the remaining bedspread. Frustrated that a portion of the sheet was stubbornly tucked under the mattress near the headboard, I walked up to it and placed my hand under the mattress. A taut tug revealed the creased white sheet and something else.
