“The group you just took down attacked young Master Vergette.”
“I think you should have met him at the party earlier, Louise. Didn’t you recognize him?”
The woman with long blonde hair, who had just arrived at her luxurious mansion, frowned upon hearing the words of her cousin and Consigliere of her mafia family. After taking out five members of Alexis’s mafia group, she had indeed asked her cousin to find out who they were targeting. She was clearly familiar with the man she had helped to kill the members of Alexis, but could not remember who he was
“I only know Mr. Harold, not his son. Jason is the one who knows him well, Nico.”
“Is there anything else? Like, why is Alexis being so cocky, trying to cause trouble in my territory?” she continued.
The man on the other end of the call, Nico Accardi, chuckled before answering, “That’s what surprises me. They’re usually such cowards, especially after the FBI foiled their drug deal two months ago.”
“I’m surprised they still have enough energy to go after Claude Vergette here in Italy, which is clearly under your control.”
“By the way, did Claude recognize you just now?” Nico’s follow-up question made the woman he called Louise roll her eyes.
“He’ll find out later. Maybe the Vergette family will try to get information about me,” she replied.
“Can I let that information out?” Nico asked again.
“Go ahead. Otherwise, he won’t stop trying to find out, and that’ll be a real hassle,” Louise replied.
The woman took off her high heels shoes and headed toward the balcony of the mansion’s master bedroom, still with her cell phone pressed to her ear.
“I actually found something interesting, though I don’t know if it’ll be useful or mean anything to you, Louise.” Nico’s next sentence made Louise raise one eyebrow.
“What is it?” she asked.
“Two weeks ago, there was a gang clash in Los Angeles—you might have heard the news. Vergette itself lost two of its members who happened to be caught in the middle of the clash,” Nico explained.
“Jason then told me that Claude’s investigation proved Alexis’s group was involved in the clash. On top of that, the FBI, who came to investigate the case at the time, found tattoos on some of the gang members’ bodies. Tattoos that clearly didn’t belong to any mafia group we know of.”
Louise’s free hand clenched into a fist as she heard this. She then asked Nico in a low voice, “What did the tattoos look like?”
“A black horse. A stallion.” The corners of Louise’s lips immediately turned up upon hearing his answer.
“A stallion, huh?” she said sarcastically.
“I need any information you can get on that investigation. Give it to me by tomorrow afternoon at the latest, Nico,” she ordered before ending the call.
Her gray eyes gazed out at the darkness of the night sky. Louise muttered, “Five years have passed. Why are you only now trying to play this game?”
_____
“Dianne Louise Morrance. She’s Jason Berg’s half-sister, which is why we saw her at the party with Jason. You should’ve asked her about it right away at the party, you’ve just made things difficult for me.”
Stevan grumbled as he handed over several sheets of paper containing the results of his investigation into the identity of the blonde woman who had taken out the five men who attacked Claude yesterday. The woman who had only given her first name when Claude asked. The woman who had caught his attention at the party because she’d arrived with Jason Berg.
“I didn’t know Jason had a younger sister,” said Claude.
“I don’t think everyone knows. Besides, you aren’t very involved in the mafia business that’s still in your father’s hands right now,” Stevan retorted.
Claude nodded in agreement. “So she’s his sister. That might explain why she’s such a skilled sniper. Her accuracy is downright terrifying. But it doesn’t explain the meaning behind the phrase ‘messing with my territory’ that she uttered.”
His hand was still flipping through the papers, reading everything Stevan had managed to find out about Louise. When he reached the third page, his eyes widened slightly.
"Is she… the head of the Morrance family?"
"That woman?"
Claude’s expression clearly showed his disbelief, causing Stevan to sigh, “That’s the truth. All this time we thought Jason was the one in control of that family, but we were wrong. It’s his sister.”
"You know that nickname, right? Black Angel. That belongs to Miss Dianne."
