Long road to town

1256 Words
Dylan POV The road felt endless. Music was not able to fill the void that has consumed my heart. Music was not able to keep my thoughts and emotions at bay. I stopped counting how many times I had to pull off the road to take a breath. At this rate, I'd be lucky to get to the town either in one piece, or by next month. I pulled over again. Revenna's face at the party appeared in front of me again. For once, I felt something else besides sadness and pity for myself. I became enraged. Without even thinking, I slammed my fists against the steering wheel. "Why did you accept it!" I tilted my head back and rubbed my hands over my face and stubble. I hadn't even bothered to shave the last few days. What's the point? Revenna liked the feel of my smooth face against hers and against her palms. Wait, I wonder if she's still with Aunt B? I haven't seen her around for more than a week now. Is that why Aunt B called? *Maybe we'll be meeting Rev instead of Aunt Becca...* Gray sounded so hopeful. "Just don't get your hopes up and end up wolfing out when it's Aunt B that shows up and not Revenna, okay?" Outbursts used to be quite common for us. FLASHBACK (faint scream) "He lost control!" "Someone help!" " Get the tranks!" I could feel the short ragged breaths that Gray took. I could feel the slight jolts of pain vibrating through his teeth from the hard snaps he gives at the people around him. I could feel the arch of his back increasing and the hairs raising in anticipation. His growl sounds primal and ferocious as it rumbles through our body. "No, wait! I can help!" "Listen to me you boneheaded bloody asses!" I clearly heard her commanding voice stand out above all those of the men around me. Gray perked his ears, but still did not move, and kept his gaze solely on the people wanting to trank him. "I can calm him down, but first all of you need to pack up your torches and pitch forks and get the hell away from him." "NOW!" The men dragged themselves away from me, and Gray and I saw her; standing her ground, with her arms folded over her chest, and her head held high. Gray relaxed his tense body at the sight of her. She finally looked over and started walking over to us. She dropped her arms to her sides and sighed. "Gray, what happened buddy?" She gently asked as she stopped in front of my giant dark brown wolf. She lifted her hand and stroked the side of his neck, which calmed him slightly. "Let's go meet Freya at our special place, okay?" She all but whispered to Gray. We walked slowly through the woods with Revenna riding on our back. She loved it, but I knew that Gray only tolerated it because, well, it was Rev... We reached the clearing at the lake, and Revenna jumped off. She stared intently into Gray's eyes, holding his head between both her hands. I saw each of her movements happens slowly. Her eyes widening, the color being completely drained and replaced with a pearlish white glow. Her lips parting to signal the welcome feeling of the power emanating from her hands. The words rolling off her tongue in brilliant French. "Viens dans notre monde," (come to our world). Her head snapped back and her eyes glowed even brighter. Her silhouette became white and appeared to leave her body, forming into a wolf whilst walking away from her. I could feel my body changing and I saw my wolf walking away from me in the same form and color as the other one. They walked side by side, before being swept away by the wind. I turned my head and stared directly into hazel wells. My hands covered hers on either side of my face, and she brushed her thumbs on either side of my lips. "I like it when you're freshly shaved." She said as her lips curved into a smile. Just as I felt a smile form, she had to ruin the moment... "But your shaved jingle bells are so shiny they're almost blinding me." How could she make me feel so glorious one moment, and so incredibly embarrassed the next? I moved to cover my jewels, but before I could reach, I heard Revenna say: "L'habiller," (dress him), and I was fully clothed. "Uh... thanks" I said while scratching the back of my neck. "What made you wolf out?" She asked sincerely. END OF FLASHBACK A loud tap on the window startled me out of my memory, and a bright light was blinding me. A rolled down the window to see a burly officer standing beside my car, and his squad car parked behind me. "What are you doin' at the side of the road sonny?" He spoke through his thick mustache, still shining his light directly in my eyes. "Sorry officer, I felt tired, and decided to pull over instead of keeping on driving." I responded, scrunching my face and trying to shade my eyes from his probing light. He shifted it away a bit, and narrowed his eyes at me, then scanned the car. "So, you have no objection to me searchin' your ve-hicle, right sonny?" He said while adjusting his belt buckle. *How does his mustache move like that?* "Shut it, Gray," I also wondered about it, but now is not the time. "Not at all, officer. Should I stay put, or do you want me to get out?" Better sound co-operative, maybe he'll leave quicker. *I don't think he can move fast at all. He only chases doughnuts, not crooks.* "Gray! You're being a d**k, stop it. That's uncalled for." Goddess, he can be such an ass when he's sad. "You jus' stay put." he pointed his finger at me, and slowly walked all around the car, shining his probe-ish light everywhere. I decided to relax a bit in my seat while he continued on his quest. How could someone not look suspicious when an officer is sort of searching their car? Although he is not doing a thorough job... "Alrighty boy, you look good to go. Next time, keep an eye out for the signs. There are lots of wild animal attacks in this neck o'the woods." He pointed all around with his light for emphasis. "I'm sorry officer, I must not have seen them, I was very tired. I'll be sure to keep an eye out." Animal attacks? "Good, you can go now, an' drive safe sonny." He made his way back to his squad car, but before he could get in, I drove off. *Animal attacks, huh. Doesn't sound good.* "This is still pack territory, maybe Alpha Caleb is part of it." Scunching my face, I tried thinking of anything that could have been out of the ordinary, but I just couldn't think of anything. *Maybe we should stop at the next motel. It's been a long day and a long night.* Gray was right, we needed some rest. It wasn't long before we reached a motel with a vacancy. Just as I pulled into the parking lot, I saw a squad car cruising by. *Looks like Officer Cupcake.* "You really need sleep." I was getting annoyed with his insults. This isn't like Gray, he's being a d**k lately. *I really need Freya.*
