Revenna's POV After a 3 hour drive with Freya's constant whining, I finally made it to Oakville. So maybe deciding to take a 3 hour drive at like 8 pm wasn't my best idea, but whatever. What's done is done. 'Do you have any idea how my ass feels?' Freya's still whining... 'Yes Freya, because it happens to be my ass too, now please just shut up for a minute.' There, that should do it. How did I end up with the sensitive yet hot-headed wolf who I should constantly keep in control? Usually it's the other way around. I reached my mom's street and pulled my VW Polo GTI into her driveway and stopped in front of the garage. I make sure to take my phone and wallet as I climb out and walk around the blue nose of the car. Best gift ever to daddy's little girl... My dream car. I sigh as I remember that day. Before I could get lost in my train of thought, I was engulfed by a woman with my stature. Within a few seconds, I was being lifted off the ground and having the air squeezed from my lungs, like a boa constricting around its prey. It doesn't help that my face is buried in a bush of wild dark red curls. "Revenna, honey, I can't believe you're here!" She basically squeaks as she hugs me even tighter. Man, I forgot how strong she was! "M..mom..." I all but force the word out, and she realises she's crushing me. She puts me down on the ground and smiles at a couple jogging by, who slowed their pace and just stared in awe. Well, actually we should be doing the staring because who the hell jogs at 11pm? Psychos. She awkwardly waved at them and turned back to me, grabbing both my hands in her warm ones, flashing me a million dollar smile. "Sorry sweetie, I just missed you so much. You look so beautiful, how's my favorite boy-toy?" She asked, wiggling her eyebrows. Ahh, yes, her weird nickname for Dylan. "I think we both need a coffee shot for this conversation." Her face falls, but she doesn't bombard me with questions. We walked along the pathway, and into the house, which strangely smells like home although mom's only been here a few months. We head into the kitchen and I take my phone, keys and wallet out of my pockets and toss them on the counter on my way to the fridge. Mom takes out 2 shot glasses, while I get the cream liqueur and coffee liqueur and place them on the counter next to the glasses. She pours us half and half from each bottle. We stand next to each other and raise our glasses. "Voice pour rien!" (here's to nothing) We say at the same time, and gulp down the shots. I taste the sweetness first, before the creaminess comes. Then I feel the warmth of the alcohol in the back of my throat and savor the feeling of hotness as it travels down. Goddess, I love coffee shots. "Now spill." she's using her matter of fact voice, ugh! I place my shot glass on the counter and pop myself up to sit next to it, with my legs crossed. Mom sits on a bar stool next to me, holding her head up with her hand, and placing the other on my knee. I reluctantly tell her everything that happened and how I feel, even how weird and out of the blue the rejection was. She doesn't move as she listens to what I say, and then ponders for a moment. Just as she's about to speak, we hear the front door open. On instinct, I flew off the counter and headed for the door. "Honey wait!" My mom called from the kitchen, but she's too late to stop me. I already have the intruder pinned to the ground, holding and twisting his arm back with my hands, while making him kiss the ground with my knee in his face. "Wow, se's as stlong as you ba-e." the guy said with his squished face. "Babe?!" His statement caught me a bit off guard and tightened my hold on him, receiving a flinch and loud, "OW!" in response. "I tried telling you to wait, but you really are fast. You're even faster than I was." Mom stated deep in thought, looking up at the ceiling, as if nothing out of the ordinary was happening. "Uhm, BABE??" I asked again, using more emphasis while motioning with my head to the stranger planted on the ground. "Ya, se's my ma-e." The guy said nonchalantly from beneath me. I was so shocked at what he said that I lost my balance and tumbled over him. Luckily, I have great reflexes, and use the tumble to flip up onto my feet in front of mom. The guy, however, seems to have some trouble standing up. I stared at my mom and watched her move around me to help this guy up. "Mate? How the f**k is that possible?" I didn't even try to hide my anger. My father was her mate and he died. The end. That's it. But now she has another mate? "Watch your tongue and your tone when speaking to me." Guess she stays mom, right? I could never stand my ground against her death stare. She could make the greatest alpha kneel with that look. 'Deep breath in. Deep breath out.' Freya and I say together as I match my actions with our words. "Sorry mom, but what is going on?" I asked her after a beat. My mother takes my hand and leads me down the hall, lined with photos of our family, out back to the patio. I sit on my swing chair and she sits across from me on her couch. Mr Stranger sits next to her and places his hand quite high on her thigh. I watched the action and quirked a brow, then looked him square in the eye. When he saw my clear disapproval, he pulled his hand back so quickly that he accidently knocked himself in the ribcage with an elbow. 'How is this clumsy mess a wolf?' Comes Freya's statement. Finally, my wolf and I are on the same page about someone. 'Shh, mom's going to explain.' I quieted Freya. "After your father died, I didn't feel the need to be part of a pack anymore. You had Dylan and were happy and I didn't see any reason to stay, so I came here to the human town. I soon realised that there are other species in this town as well. This is Lukas, he is a witch, as we are." I was stunned, again. I looked at the man with the disheveled dirty blond hair and glasses which somehow made his ice-blue eyes stand out even more. So wonder he's such a cluts. He's not a wolf. 'So mom found a second chance mate...' Freya seems amazed at what we had learned, but I'm still uncertain. A second chance mate is very rare. It's something that happens if you loved your mate like you were supposed to, and then lost them tragically. So, basically, I'm screwed. "Honey, after what you told me earlier, the next part will apply to you as well. As a witch, you have two mates. If something happens to the first, or if you are rejected, you will meet your second mate." 'Wait, so you have a mate and I have a mate?' Freya is making sense for once. She is my wolf and has her mate, but if something happens, then I get a mate to replace hers? That's kind of cruel... I don't know how I'm going to explain this to the pack, if I meet my other mate. I'm sure everyone knows by now how I was rejected by our beta. Maybe they'll think it's because he's gay and I'm a girl? But what if he doesn't get another mate... He will be sad and lonely forever. How could the Moon Goddess do something like this to him?
