One Step Ahead of the Bear
His first thought was to try for his knife, but he quickly decided from the sound of her startled cry that whatever hit him was no threat.
It was, however, a big surprise. No one he knew of even knew that the cave was there much less how to enter it. Besides that, he had been trapped down there himself since the floor, rotted out from time and moisture, had caved in on him. But how could anyone else be in there? That was a question that would have to wait. For the moment, he had all he could cope with lying in his arms in the middle of the stream.
