Chapter 26 It’s Up to My Wife

1346 Words
When the Quincy family returned home, it was already after 9:00 at night. Senior Mr. Quincy, Matthew, and Karen went back to their rooms separately. Vincent, on the contrary, looked embarrassed, sitting dumbly on the sofa in the living room. Looking back at the doors of Clare and Natalie’s rooms, he found them both closed tightly. Vincent shook his head and was about to lie sideways on the sofa. Clare opened her door at this time and said to him softly, “Vincent, you... can come in.” “What?” Vincent was taken aback, hurriedly sat up, and turned his head. “What did you just say?” “I said...” Clare flushed and pouted, “I said you can come in...” “What’s up?” Vincent seemed to have not reacted yet. Clare frowned, “Aren’t we supposed to sleep in the same room?!” “Huh? Really?! Sleep together?!” “Be quiet!” Clare stomped her feet, “What? Grandpa didn’t tell you?!” “No, he told me about it, but I’m not sure if you are okay with this??” “What does it matter if I don’t agree... Grandpa had said a lot about this and I don’t want him to be disappointed... I don’t want him to worry about me, about us...” Clare said softly. “It’s all right. Let me do the talking. I’ll just tell him that I don’t like to share my room with a woman because I can’t get used to it. Besides...” Vincent didn’t finish. Clare was stunned, her face flushed, “Are you a eunuch?” “What??” “Or... are you a gay?” “Oh, tell yourself about it! I’m straight, OK?!” Vincent was annoyed. “Then grandpa won’t buy it! Anyway, you should come in first!” Clare turned around and got inside. “Um, all right.” Vincent shook his head, slowly got up from the sofa, and gently pushed Clare’s door open before he walked in. An enchanting female scent greeted him immediately, mixed with the scent of feminine products, whether they were for beauty or washing or something. Anyway, Vincent had never smelled such a good and indulgent smell before. It was the same scent he had smelled on Clare. Lora didn’t have this on her body for she wasn’t a rich and delicate girl as Clare was. Alas, why did he still have Lora in mind?! The dim bedside lamp brightened the whole room pink. Vincent felt both seductive and restrained. For the very first time in his life, he was afraid that he might be dirty and redundant to disturb or contaminate the beauty of the house. However, Vincent was taken aback when he saw a bunk under the soft bed Clare was sitting on. It looked very soft and fragrant. “Hey!” Clare was sitting on the bed, looking at Vincent with a blushing face, “Although I am very grateful to you for helping me, I asked you to come in... only because Grandpa told me to do so. So, don’t get me wrong.” “I know, I got you...” Vincent nodded, “Not to mention you, as a man, I’m embarrassed to share a room with a girl who I have known just for one day.” Vincent looked at Clare as he talked and didn’t expect to see that she was still dressed. The floral dress manifested her graceful figure. Vincent couldn’t help but be stunned. “What are you looking at?!” Clare shrank. “I’m not... Are you going out?” Vincent waved his hands hurriedly. “No? Why the question?” Clare didn’t understand. “You are wearing this...” Vincent pointed at her dress, and then realized something, “Are you doing this to defense against me?” Clare’s face turned red, and she lowered her head and fiddled with the corners of her dress silently. She admitted silently. “Hehe, you don’t have to. I won’t touch you anyway.” “Huh?!” Clare looked up at Vincent coldly, “What’s wrong with your tone? Do you despise me?!” “No, no, of course not!” Vincent hurriedly waved his hands, “I’m sorry that I didn’t put it in the right way. You are such a delicate and pretty beauty. Who am I to despise you? I mean I won’t mess you around. Don’t worry.” Clare pouted and stopped talking. Vincent pointed to the right side of the door, “Can I... sit there...?” “Yes.” Clare nodded. Vincent leaned against the wall slowly and sat cross-legged on the floor. After a long-time silence, he said unhurriedly, “Thank you.” “Why? For what?” Clare didn’t get him. “Thank you for not despising me like others.” Vincent shook his head. “That’s not true. It’s just a bit unacceptable for them to have a new adult in the family, especially a son-in-law,” Clare explained. “I know, and I understand. That’s why I don’t mind. Also, I hope you understand that I am not really coveting to do this or something else. Senior Mr. Quincy is worried about you, so he asked me to play the role of your future husband or bodyguard. They are the same actually.” Clare nodded, “Grandpa told me about this.” “That’s good!” Vincent nodded, “If I do anything wrong or may fail you, I hope you won’t mind.” Clare nodded. “This... is for me?” Vincent pointed to the bunk. “Hmm...” Clare was a little embarrassed. “Thank you for your considerate arrangement! It looks very comfortable...” Vincent was about to crawl inside as he said so. “Hey, not yet!” Clare hurriedly stopped him. “Why? Is it for me to watch, not to sleep?!” Vincent looked dumbfounded. “Of course not. But... don’t you take a bath first?” “Take a bath? Can I?” Vincent asked stupidly. “Of course!” Clare rolled her eyes against Vincent and pointed to a small door in the room, “Go take a shower. I have a bathroom inside the room.” “Oh, okay!” Vincent hurriedly took out some clothes from the small bag he had brought here in the evening, and walked directly to the bathroom, muttering, “What a life to live as a rich. You even got a bathroom inside your room...” Clare couldn’t help but shake her head, “Haven’t you enjoyed lobsters since childhood? Can you please not act like a countrified man?” “Haha...” Vincent scratched his head. “There are new clothes inside. Just throw those away. They are dirty and ancient...” Clare added. Alright, it seemed that the ladies of the rich families were the same essentially. And she was no exception! Clare might have read Vincent’s mind, blushing while shaking her head, “Don’t get me wrong. I just don’t want you to be despised because of your shabby clothes... Grandpa asked me to buy them for you... I hope you won’t mind... and at least try to pretend...” Vincent smiled, “OK! I understand! As you wish, my wife!” After that, he went into the bathroom. “Hey, don’t call me that!” Clare blushed angrily. Unexpectedly, the door suddenly opened again, which shocked Clare.
