CHAPTER 8

CHANDRA’S POV

It’s been 4 weeks since that incident. I still feel Aster’s presence somehow, as if he is close by. Almost like he’s going to burst through my door.

“Chandra? Are you listening?” Danny asked, waving his hand in front of my face.

“Huh? Oh. Uh, yeah.” I replied, but Danny gave me a look like he didn’t believe me.

“You’ve been spaced out for days now. Are you okay?” He asked, but I only pulled on my best smile, not wanting him to know how tired I really was.

“Yeah, of course I am Danny.” But he only nodded with a frown.

“What about you?” I asked, smiling at him. “Aren’t you excited to return to your pack tomorrow? I’m sure your mate misses you a lot.” Danny then smiled widely, as if thinking about her right now.

“Yeah, I can’t wait to see her again.” He sighed like a love sick puppy.

I only chuckled at his expression as I went to put my plate in the sink.

“What are your plans, though?” Danny asked, making me turn to him confused.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Well Night Owl pack isn’t your real pack.” I froze, but nodded my head anyway.

He was right, this isn’t my pack. This isn’t my home.

“Chandra.” I snapped my head to Enzo, who was near the back door. He titled his head to outside, signalling for me to follow.

Danny only smiled knowingly. While I knitted my brows at him with a frown.

I went outside, following Enzo’s back as he walked near the trees.

“Is this where you’re going to kill me.” I joked, punching Enzo’s arm. But he only frowned.

“How are you feeling?” He asked all of a sudden, which made me awkwardly laugh at him.

“I’m great.” I smiled, giving a thumbs up, but he only pulled me into a hug.

“It’s okay to let your guard down, Chandra.” He whispered into my hair.

I almost cried at the words, holding onto him tightly as I shed a fear tears.

“I miss them, Enzo. I miss my mom, my dad, my brother.” He only caressed my hair as he let me weep in his arms.

“I miss my family, and it hurts when I keep getting dreams from Aster.” I blurted out the last part.

“Dreams?” Enzo questioned, causing me to shut my mouth in a tight lip line.

I then laughed it off. “Oh, you know? Just the dreams of his annoying company.” I laughed again, but Enzo only frowned.

“What are the dreams, Chandra.”

“I told you, it’s nothing. Just old memories really.” I smiled widely, hoping he’ll drop the subject I stupidly brought up.

‘What would he think if he knew Aster was trying to find me? That every time I saw him, he was distraught and anxious?’

No, I couldn’t tell him that, he’d only think I’m crazy or demented.

“Chandra.” He pressed. But then some pack guards came to the field.

It was Enzo’s men.

“Alpha King.” He bowed. “There’s word that the Royal Beta, Felix. Has captured the leader of the rogues, the one who’s been causing all the recent attacks.”

King Enzo snapped his attention to the man, nodding his head before signalling him to leave.

“Fuck.” He mumbled lowly, causing me to look at him questioningly.

‘He’s never upset, well at least he doesn’t show it.’ I thought.

“I guess my travelling has been pushed forward.” He pushed he’s hand threw his hair.

“Wait, you mean tonight?” I asked a bit hurt.

He only looked upset as he shook his head.

“I mean now, Chandra. If it’s true, and they do have the leader of all the recent attacks. Then I need to be there to deal with it, in person.”

I only frowned, but that soon went away as I smiled up at him.

“I guess I’ll see you when you come back then.” But he only shook his head again.

“I’m the king, there are more packs I need to visit. It’s apart of the responsibility of being King.” I only felt more sadden by his words.

“Oh.”

“Why don’t you come with me?” He asked hopeful, causing me to snap my head at him.

“Really?” I asked surprised.

He only smiled taking my hand and leading me towards the pack house.

“Come on, let’s get you packed.” I only felt my cheeks burn as I kept my head to the ground.

“Okay.” I replied quietly as Enzo continued to stare at me with a smile.

“No.” Eric said sternly.

My eyes widen at him.

“Why not?” I asked frustrated.

“Because you belong to this pack. And as your alpha, I don’t permit you to leave.”

“All due respect, alpha. But Chandra hasn’t officially been put in this pack.” Enzo replied.

I looked at him, feeling a bit nervous. I’ve never seen Enzo in the whole month of being around him, look so angry. It was hard to keep eye contact on him from the way his power radiated off of him.

‘He was pissed.’

“We’ll the ceremony is tonight, then. And Chandra will be apart of this pack, officially.”

My eyes widen at his statement.

‘He was going to accept me in his pack?’

“As King, I deny the request of Chandra being in this pack. And that’s an order.” I slouched down into my seat, not wanting to be in the middle of whatever they had going between them.

Eric glared daggers at Enzo, but John put his hand on his shoulder. Indicating to let it go.

“Why don’t we let Chandra decide?” Danny spoke up. Causing everyone’s eyes to snap to him. Causing Danny to put his hands up in mock surrender.

Not long after there eyes all snapped to me, causing me to swallow hard at how harshly some of their eyes were.

“So, would you give me the honour on staying here Chandra? And being my beta?” Eric asked smugly, smirking at Enzo.

I turned my attention to Enzo who only smiled gently at me.

“Chandra, it is your choice. You can stay here, give your loyalty and duties to Alpha Eric.” He turned his attention to Eric with a scowl.

“Or you can come with me. Where I can show and teach you the life of wolves, whatever questions or confusion you have for this new life. I can show you, educate you. And then when you’re ready, you can choose what you’d like to do. While holding the knowledge you need for a rightful judgment, for making important decisions.”

I looked up at Enzo, a new admiration for him started to bloom within me.

“I can do that too.” Eric sneered lowly. Causing John to roll his eyes as he shoved his son a little in the shoulder.

I looked at Enzo, smiling widely at him. He let out his hand as I took it happily.

“I want to go with you, King Enzo.” And I meant it, whole heartedly.

I don’t know where these emotions came from, but I didn’t want them to go away.

“Then let’s prepare our travels right away.” He stated to the room.

But before we walked out of the room, Enzo looked over he’s shoulder staring at Eric.

“Thank you for your hospitality Alpha Eric. And send my regards to your Luna.” He said smugly, before kissing my hand and walking out of the room.

I looked up at him accusingly, trying to hide the blush that was threatening to show.

He only smiled at me, shrugging his shoulders at my small glare.
