CHAPTER 2: THE IDENTITY OF DRUSILLA

939 Words
"Breathe..." I fell to my knees after making sure I was out of the range of the mansion. Now then… what the hell is she? One thing is for sure, I can't miss twice, why is she still alive? Drusilla slowly raised her head from my shoulder, her body cold, her face drenched in blood. Suddenly, a force forced me to stop, my body was like a pause button was pressed. Drusilla slid off my body and slowly straightened up, brushing the dust off of me. She slowly opened her eyes and looked straight at me, at which point a thought flashed through my head - "Beautiful eyes." Those eyes had a clear blue color like a clear bottomless lake. So beautiful! Suddenly, my body moved, not waiting for her attention. On reflex of the assassin, I grabbed the gun and without hesitation shot her a few more times. In the stillness of the night, only the sound of my breathing and the smell of gunpowder remained. Seconds later, she slowly stood up again as if nothing had happened, as if the shots were like a breeze knocking her over. To my surprise, her clear voice said, "Kill me!". "BANG...BANG...BANG..." - I opened fire immediately. My gun is also out of ammo, is she dead? And to my surprise, she once again came to life like the bullets really weren't real. This time I stayed silent and watched her, the wounds on her face slowly healing at a rather rapid rate. The flesh sores gradually closed. "Keng...Keng...Keng..." the sound of bullets slowly fell to the ground. At this moment, the clouds in the sky seemed to be spreading to make way for the moon to shine on Drusilla, the faint light from the moon as if indicating to me that everything that was happening before my eyes was real. After a few minutes, the wound on Drusilla's face was completely healed, as if nothing had happened to her. I instinctively backed away from her: "What the hell are you anyway?" Drusilla raised her face, her transparent eyes looking straight at me as if she wanted to strip her inner self. She slowly walked towards me with small steps, I wanted to back away but some invisible force was holding me back. Drusilla has been coming to me ever since, she reached up and touched my face. Drusilla: "Good evening, my Althone." Did she just call me "Althone"? Most of the people who knew my real name were dead. I slowly regained my composure to answer her question. Althone: "Do I know you?" Drusilla: "I'm the one who hired you to do this mission through collared cats." Althone: "..." I recognized the stones on Drusilla's collar, the same gem often inlaid on the necks of messenger cats. Drusilla: "Please complete the mission I gave you. Normal guns can't kill me, you see." Althone: "So…?" Suddenly, Drusilla's irises gradually turned pale pink filled with blood splatters. Drusilla: "I'm a vampire." Althone: "Vampires?" Did she mean the blood-sucking immortal creature that was often mentioned in children's fairy tales? "The ancient ancestor of vampires is Dracula, a hybrid of humans and ancient dragons. This creature is said to specialize in sucking the blood of living individuals to survive, they possess immortal bodies, invincible fighting ability and eternal beauty that never grows old." Ever since I was a kid, I thought such things only happen in fairy tales until I met Drusilla - who was standing in front of me. Althone: "What do you want from me?" Drusilla: "I want you to complete the task I gave you. The reward I mentioned in the letter, I know you're interested in "it" that Althone." Althone: "But if you're a vampire, which means you're immortal, this quest is impossible." Drusilla: "It's because it's impossible that people like you are needed." Althone: "Then can you let me out first?" Drusilla: "..." After witnessing her strength and those eyes, I believed the stories my childhood told me. I looked up at the moonlight and thought, "Wow, I'm in big trouble again." Althone: "Follow me back to the base, I'll research a way to end your life." Drusilla: "Ohh, I'm looking forward to it." Saying that, I led Drusilla through the vast forest, the wind picked up, Drusilla grabbed my wrist. To my surprise, Drusilla's hand was cold as if it had no temperature at all. Subtle fingers kept touching my skin. Unconsciously, Drusilla said: "I don't want to get lost." Althone: "..." The road undulated with only the sound of Drusilla and me footsteps and the rustling of the woods. Althone: "You're very cold." Drusilla: "Vampires don't have body heat, we're dead." Althone: "So you want me to kill you again!??" Drusilla: "You're not going to hand me over to the scientists, are you?" Althone: "..." Drusilla's hand suddenly gripped my wrist, chills spreading to my skin. Drusilla: "You won't pay the price for betraying me." Drusilla's voice was clear, the voice was extremely gentle like a peach silk, there was no melody at all, nothing could be heard from that sentence. I don't know why in my heart I always believe her words, can't go wrong with the transaction. Perhaps, I have entered a path with no way back, regret? No, my dictionary never had the word "REGRET!". Oddly enough, the first time I did the quest, I failed. I'm traveling with a female vampire - my client and I have to kill my client. It was also the first time I held a girl's hand for such a long distance. # Dreame Love Story Contest
