Episode Four

I tried to control myself as I stood fully in front of doctor nelson, just then Olivia came out and her eyes widened as she saw me.

“Kaia! Where on earth did you go? We've been worried when you did not show up” she inquired while doctor nelson glanced blankly at me.

I paused not knowing what to say. Why haven't I even thought of this. Now I don't have any excuse to give.

“Uhhm…actually “ I stammered.

“See me in my office at once” doctor nelson said walking away and I almost shivered.

Goodness. I hope I'm safe right now.

I tiptoed behind him as he moved firmly with his hands in his lab coat. I watched his hair as he walked with all precision.

When I was in secondary school, one of the things that drew me closer to the medical field is the aesthetics of dressing up as a professional.

The looks and joy of being in a lab coat or scrub always drives me insane. I would have photographed doctor nelson retreating figure if I were not in such an overwhelmed situation.

I walked after him into his office and watched as his secretary stood up to acknowledge him. Unlike the other office I have been to, he has a secretary corner before his real office.

Wow.

We walked into his office and he sat down after removing his coat.

Okayyy.

“You should sit down” he said and I realized I was standing. To be honest, I didn't bother but I had to obey him.

“You see, kaia. It is one thing to be intelligent and it is another to be strategic and intentional. You need to be all of this to win in this career. You are here to learn. You are here to become a doctor whom the world can lean on, whom patients and ailing people can trust with their healing” he said and I wondered where the conversation was headed.

“Yes sir. I said nodding my head.

“A second is very vital when it comes to people's lives. Every wink of time must be saved. We are responsible for everyone around us. Your display of negligence today is not professional, it is not ethical and it is definitely not noble” he said looking into his file.

“You are barely a week here and it would be bad if you started on this record. You have to put in your best into everything you are required to do” he said and I nodded. Now this is a scolding.

“ I do not know why you decided to act that way but believe me when I say that excuses are not welcomed when life is involved, I admonish you to do your best and write a good record for yourself “ he said.

“I'm so sorry for my mistakes sir, also, I am grateful for the advice” I said bowing my head.

“Before you go, I'd like to inform you about a party tomorrow. You know it's one of those party used to cool off and recharge. It will be by evening” he said and I nodded.

“it will be an avenue for you to bond with other workers and members of staffs” he said again and I nodded.

What is with this man and over explanation?

I walked out of his office with a sigh of relief. Thank goodness I dodged another query. Who would have thought?

I went to find Olivia immediately. This past week, she has been my only emotional support and we get along so well.

“Hey! She called immediately she saw me. She has an office to herself and I adopted it as my space too. It is very comfortable and big enough for even two more staffs.

“Olivia, you won't believe all I have to say” I said to her as I sipped from a drink unopened on the table.

“Kaia, starting out this way is a very bad record for you. I just hope doctor nelson was not too hard on you” Olivia said looking at me intently.

“No, he only admonished me and to be honest, I feel better. I was very flushed back then” I said as I gulped all the contents of the grape juice.

“Alright, I need to supervise a dressing, I'd see you shortly” Olivia said as she took her stethoscope.

“About Mr Steve, how is he doing now? I never knew he'd undergo a kidney transplant that soon” I said.

Mr Steve is an accident survivor brought in earlier that week, he lost his wife and daughter in the accident and I feel so sorry for him. We had tried our best for him, caring and treated his wounds so

it is surprising that he'd need a kidney transplant this soon.

“Yeah, the scan shows he has a big cut on his kidney “ Olivia mouthed and I gasped.

No wonder his Vitals were dropping and his urine has a trace of blood. How could we have missed that? I thought to myself as a question crosses my mind.

“Wait, he was involved in an accident right, how was his kidney affected?” I asked Olivia as she nodded in approval.

“Doctor nelson and I have debated heavily on it but we are yet to unravel that mystery “ she said struggling.

“I need to go now, kaia” she said and I shrugged.

Saturday Night

I make finishing touches to my makeup as I check myself in the mirror. I look so beautiful and I know it.

I stay in the hospital buildings allocated for staffs. It is a very nice place and I love it so much . Olivia does not stay around but has a house of her own. That is one thing I love about the medical profession, just read hard and you'd become wealthy in a short while.

I wish she were here so we could dress for the party well. According to her, she wants to appear fashionably for the party. She has a room in the hospital stashed with different clothes but she still opted to go home to be ‘ready’ it's her choice though.

I took my blue purse and held it by my side. Now here

comes the beautiful doctor. I thought as I blushed to myself.
