Chapter 2
Sonia's pov
“Stand up!” Emily's voice echoes through the walls of my room.
“To Where?” I ask curiously, feeling reluctant to stand.
“I'm taking you with me,” she said, trying to pull me up from the ground. You can't stay here and wait for your husband to come back with his mistress and rip your heart apart all over again. You need to clear your head.”
I shake my head, “I'm not in the right state to go out. I regret my actions. It's all my fault, bestie.”
“Why are you saying it's your fault, when you're the one hurt.”
“Marcus initially opposed me taking over my father's company but I thought he had come to support me. I was blinded with responsibilities that I couldn't see how far it tore us apart the whole time”
“Sonia, stop. It's not true, you've been a good wife.”
“No, Emily. He stood his ground of selling the company while with his goddamn mistress.
He warned it would divide us but I assured him that I'll always be present for my family. now he said it's all my fault that I didn't listen.” I said wailing again.
“It's okay, it's not your fault. She said, patting me. You only did what was meant to be done.”
“You tried to balance it up, remember?
You even took breaks from your busy schedules to focus on conceiving and starting a family. So you did your best.”
“You kept reassuring me that it would happen soon. But what did I get now?
A cheating husband. This is unbelievable, bestie!”
Emily's expression softens, as she gently grasps my arm. “You're coming to my house right? You need to freshen up and stay strong to strategize on how you will get Marcus back.”
“I'm not sure,” I sigh.
“We need to get out of here, bestie. Trust me, I could be worse than him if you refuse,” she added with a faint smile.
Usually, I would laugh at her jokes on a normal day, but the day seemed different.
I nod as I stand up from the floor, my legs trembling slightly. I struggle to the dressing room, my steps unsteady, as if I had been weak for days.
I search and take out a pair of jeans and a polo shirt I haven't worn in ages.
We stepped out into the cool evening air to Emily's car and I slid into the passenger seat, and let out a heavy breath.
As she rode, I got overwhelmed at how everything changed in a few minutes. I was happy about the deal I bagged, but now this.
I check my phone to see if he has sent a message. But to my surprise, he hadn’t even left a voicemail.
My heart skips a beat as disappointment wash over me, and thoughts begin racing through my mind.
Is this the end of our relationship? Would I ever get Marcus back?
A lot was running through my mind.
she squeezed my hand sensing I was worried. “You're going to get through this. I promise.”
I nod, “Thank you, bestie.”
We pull up to Emily's house, a beautiful bungalow with a beautiful manicured lawn.
Emily leads me to her room. While freshening up In the bathroom, I couldn't stop thinking about Marcus as warm water enveloped me, washing away tears as I let out a heavy breath feeling a bit light.
After my shower, I put on the pajamas Emily had given to me and lay down until I fell asleep.
**The next morning..
I bolted up after relieving one of our memories, looking around the room, hoping that all this was just a bad dream. But when I saw it, I lay back on the bed and cried. “He hadn't called since yesterday to check up on me. He really hates me,” I thought.
I freshen up and join Emily in the kitchen.
“Good morning, my best woman,” She teased.
“Good morning, Bestie.” Giving her a forced smile.
“I hope you slept well?” She asked.
“Yes.”
I can't say I slept well because I was crying all night until I fell asleep.
She had made breakfast, but I had no appetite. I declined, asking for a cup of coffee.
“Sonia, please get ready, we have a doctor's appointment.”
“Why?” I asked.
“Come on, Sonia. It's important
aren't you concerned?”
“Okay, I'm coming.”I nod.
“It was a long ride and I soon realized we were leaving town.
“Emily, where exactly are we going? We’ve passed several hospitals in town.”
“I'm taking you to a specialized doctor, bestie.
He's a good doctor that takes special cases like yours. His reviews are good. so chill, I got everything under control.”
We arrive at the hospital and what I see isn't what I expected after such a long ride. It seems like a private building in a discreet place that is eerily quiet.
I turn to Emily waiting for an explanation but she turns and gives me a reassuring nod.
Emily makes a call and a young lady dressed like a nurse comes out and beckons on us to follow her. Inside is a small clinic with few workers and people around.
After filing my details and running some tests we wait for half an hour to see the doctor. The nurse signal's us to come in, finally it was time.
I feel uneasy as she leads us to the doctor's office. The doctor is seated with a serious look as he stares at us.
His aura is sophisticated and commanding.
We greet him politely and he responds, asking us to sit.
“Have a seat,” he said.
“According to your test results I think you should opt for an IVF. The doctor explains my options, suggesting IVF.”
“IVF?” My mouth widens in shock.
"The IVF option seems to be the best course of action," the doctor said.
I feel a surge of uncertainty, not sure I was ready to try that.
But with my husband's consent we will finally carry our baby.
“With my husband's sperm right?”
The doctor turns to me and sighs.
“Your friend sent me an email explaining everything. In this case, you've been trying for three years and you haven't conceived, we might need to try other options this time”
“Please excuse us, doctor,” I pleaded.
“Okay, suit yourself. Get back to me on what you decide” the doctor said, discharging us.”
“Okay, doctor,” I replied, dragging Emily out of the office.
“What's going on here, where did you bring me?
Why would he suggest another man's sperm when Marcus can do it. He got another woman pregnant for Christ sake!”
“But you and Marcus have tried for three years. Come on, bestie.”
“You know this is not going to be possible without my husband's consent right?” I can't do this. I hesitated.
“And who said so?” Emily asked with a frown on her face.
“Marcus doesn't even care. Right now, he's bound by his mistress and this pregnancy is your only hook.”
“You have to do this, Sonia. If you don't, you'll lose Marcus for good.”
“We will come up with a good plan but for now we are out of time, you need to act fast if you want Marcus back.”
“I am not satisfied with that reply, Emily. If the IVF works, how do we convince him that it's his child?”
“Maybe sleep with him, and then if it works give him the news that you're pregnant, he wont suspect a thing.”
“And what if I don't get a chance to?”
“You find a way. He's your husband, forget what he did and focus.”
“What if the plan backfires,” I whispered.
“It wont. Come on, Sonia!”
“About the donor, would my identity be disclosed? I asked.”
“No, this is a private hospital. The doctor you saw has done a lot of illegal stuff for people which is confidential. He's the best doctor when it comes to things like this. Trust me your secret's safe with this place. Don't be scared.”
“You said you'd do anything, right?”
“Yeah, I said that. But this? It's a lot.” I sighed.
“You've got a lot of reasons to do it, Bestie. Even your mom messaged this morning asking about your plans to conceive.”
I froze as silence accompanies us.
“What are you saying, sonia?” She asked.
“Okay. I don't have a choice, I'll do it.
she exhales.”That's my girl, let's go back inside.”
My heart beats faster than usual as I walk back to the doctor's office.
I'm ready, sir. I said.
“Okay,” he nods as he leans back on his chair. “One more thing,” he said, staring.
Before we go ahead, there's something you need to know.
“Go ahead, doctor.”
“You need to sign a confidentiality agreement to ensure that no information will be disclosed to anyone.”
I turn to Emily, and she gives a reassuring nod before I sign the document.
“I’m doing the right thing, " I repeat these words in my head.
Only to save my marriage, protect my family's image and my reputation.”
