Ethan's POV
"Oh, umm Claire this is Lucas the gamma. Lucas this is Claire, my mate.”
Lucas' eyes widen and I read shock and embarrassment from his facial expression.
"Is everything okay?” Lydia asks the question on my mind whilst looking at Claire and Lucas.
Lucas opens his mouth to speak but Claire drops in.
"I've already met him." We nod at her.
"When?" I ask and she turns to me.
"I kinda got lost and he helped me.” She adds and I smile at Lucas for being a gentleman.
Lucas looks at Claire totally surprised and I sense something is up.
"I never got to say thank you.” She moves towards him and offers her hand.
He looks at her curiously but then he bows at her respectfully.
"Yes, Luna. You're welcomed.” He addresses her by one of her titles and I nod.
"Okay, let's go have some breakfast then.” Logan draws our attention with his rude manners.
Claire smiles and Lydia rolls her.
"Seriously.” Lydia says and he shrugs.
"What? They've been introduced. I'm hungry." He states and walks towards the dining hall.
The rest follow behind and I get a hold of my mate before she can follow suit.
I hold her by the waist and look into her confused eyes.
"You two coming?” Lydia asks and without breaking eye contact....
"Please have a maid bring our breakfast to our room.”
"Okay, love birds.” Lydia chuckles and shakes her head before walking away.
Claire removes herself for my hold and clears her throat.
"Why are we having breakfast in.. your room?” It's weird to hear her say 'your' instead of 'our' room especially since she took it away from me but I brush the feeling away.
"I want us to talk.” She sighs and looks like she's about to protest but then suddenly let's it go.
She nods then leads the way to our room.
The moment I step into the room I realize a difference.
Her scent covers almost everything making mine faint.
But the bed gives me a mixture of both our scents and my brain goes on override.
I swallow a bit and bite down to control myself.
Usually I have more self control but over the months it seems to be slipping away.
And honestly it's just cute to have her scent over all my stuff because very soon I want her to have my scent all over her body.
She clears her throat and I open my eyes to meet her beautiful gaze.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about my world. And you're right. You have all the right to be angry, but please understand that I didn't want to push you away.” I rub the back of my neck looking all guilty.
"Why would you think this will push me away?" She calmly asks and I nod.
"First off you didn't like the idea of a mate, and you looked so fragile that.... I somehow feared rejection.” Her eyes go wide before they soften.
"You, thought that I would reject you?" She asks with a hint of guilt in her voice.
No, the last thing I want her to feel is guilty so I take small steps towards her.
"I'm not referring to the woman standing in front of me right now." I chuckle and she looks up into my eyes.
"The Claire I met at first wanted nothing to do with a mate. The Claire standing in front of me right now saved my life when she felt I was dying.” I close the gap between us and hold her hands.
"And I also didn't tell you because it was you or no one."
"What?” She creases her forehead.
"You remember I told you I can't get a second chance mate?” She nods and I kiss her right hand.
"I felt so alive when I saw you that I didn't want to do or say anything that will push you away. Please forgive me Claire.” I look straight into her eyes and she stares right back into mine.
"But you still had many opportunities to prepare me for this. You made me think I was just walking into a new pack only to realize it's a whole country that I didn't even know existed.
I don't even know how things run around here Ethan.
I'm so confused and I just wonder if I can....”
I hug her trembling body and she relaxes letting out a big breath of relief.
"It's okay, it's okay.” I look into her eyes again and I cup her face.
"I know it's all overwhelming, and I'm not going to let you do this on your own. I'll be right here beside you. You won't be alone, trust me.” I kiss her forehead then pull her into a hug.
She slowly wraps her arms around me and I tighten the embrace whilst inhaling more and more of her scent.
I guess this means I'm forgiven.
A knock on the door causes her to quickly pull away from me. We both stare at the door and I chuckle.
"It's probably our breakfast.” Claire nods and I instruct the maid to bring the food in.
She sets the food on the table at my little dining area then bows in respect to both of us before leaving.
"I'm going to take a shower now.” Claire nods at me and I smile before heading to the bathroom.
I take a quick shower then change into some clean clothes before joining my mate at the table for breakfast.
She smiles at me when I take my seat but I can see there's a lot going on in her beautiful head.
To reduce the tension I decide to change the topic.
" So what actually happened between you and Lucas?” Claire pauses with her chewing, gives me a surprised look before swallowing.
"What do you mean?" She creases her forehead.
I chuckle then sip some juice.
"You two looked like you were hiding something." I raise my brows and she chuckles.
"It's just like I told you. I got lost and he helped me." She smiles.
"Really?” I gaze intensely into her eyes and she nods.
I believe her. If she says so then it's the truth. That or it's not something for me to overreact on.
"Okay then. How about I show you around the castle then the capital”
"The capital?” She creases her forehead and I smile.
"I mean capital like the capital city of a country.” She nods.
I reach for her hand and place a kiss on it just so she knows she's not alone.
*
After breakfast we move downstairs together and I contemplate on where to show her first.
"Okay, where to first?” She looks at me with those beautiful eyes that hold so much curiosity and excitement.
"How about a little history.” I suggest and she nods.
