A day with the queen

Claire's POV
"You can't keep me here forever, I will get out, and you will pay!" Those are the last words I hear before I wake up gasping from my dream.
This is the first time I didn't wake up screaming but this feels more scarier than all my other dreams. It feels like she was here in this room with me.
I sigh then rub the goosebumps on my arms before snuggling back into Ethan who is thankful still asleep.
I wake up and Ethan is gone again but right after I'm done freshening up I hear a knock on the door.
"Please come in." I instruct and in walks my personal maid.
"Good morning your highness." She bows and I walk closer to her.
"Good morning." I respond and she stands straight.
"I came to dress her highness." She looks down at the ground disappointed and I look at her feeling pity.
"I'm sorry but I don't really like the idea of a personal maid."
She suddenly bows again.
"Since her highness is ready the queen wishes to invite you for breakfast." At the sound of breakfast my stomach rumbles a bit and I smile.
"Please lead the way." She bows again before we both head downstairs.
When we're out in the corridor she suddenly stops, turns to me and bows again.
"Is something wrong?"
"Her highness must be in front." I slowly nod at her then take the lead.
She leaves me before I descend the stairs and I make my way to the dining hall.
The door is opened for me and to my surprise I find only the queen at the huge table.
"There you are, for a second I thought I would eat breakfast alone." She smiles and I bow respectfully when I get to her.
I guess this is my new life now.
"You don't have to bow to me dear. I mean to other older royals you do but for me I forbidden it." I smile at her then nod before taking the closest chair to her.
She really doesn't act like how she looks like. She acts way way older. I wonder what her real age is.
"Did you sleep well?” She asks out of the blue right when a maid is serving me and I pause.
My dream last night flashes before my eyes and I exhale hard.
"Yes your... I mean Katherine. I did sleep well." She laughs at me almost calling her by her official name.
"That's good because today is going to be a big day for you." I look to her puzzled.
"Today is the day I start mentoring you on the role you play as queen." I swallow hard then try not to look nervous.
"Are you okay?" She notices the expression on my face but I smile then shake my head.
"Yes please." I pick up a spoon and think of something to get her mind off me.
I look at the empty seats in front of me and she catches my gaze.
"Something came up, so they couldn't stay for breakfast." She says.
"All of them?" I ask and she nods.
"But don't worry about that. I'm sure it'll get better, that or you'll soon be busy yourself." She smiles politely and I return the gesture.
After breakfast I meet Katherine in the grand hall busily talking to someone.
"Oh here she is." She holds out her hand to me and I take it as she makes me stand face to face with the tall beautiful blonde in office wear.
She reminds me of Trina, but more calmer.
"Claire this is Elena. She's going to be your personal assistant, when I'm not around.”
I try not to show any nervousness as I shake Elena's soft hand.
Why would I need a personal assistant?
Probably because the role of a queen is too much for one person to handle.
"I look forward to working with you, your highness." She smiles politely then bows to both of us before walking away.
I stare at her retreating back then sigh.
"Let's go." Katherine says and leads the way.
We climb like three floors before we finally arrive at our destination.
Her office, or I should probably say soon to be my office because that's the first thing she tells me when we're greeted by the beautiful feminine interior of the room.
It's all huge and beautiful filled with neatly arranged decorations and exquisite furniture that screams money.
I especially notice the nice relaxing area close to a huge glass window and I gape.
One can practical sit there and admire the moon at night.
"Come sit down." Katherine orders after taking her seat and I take mine in front of her huge old looking but quite ancient and expensive desk.
The whole place looks spacious and comfortable.
"I know what you're thinking." She says and I crease my forehead at her.
"This place needs a renovation, in fact the whole castle does. But the thing about Dolyn that makes it the favorite is because of it ancient looks." I nod at the queen getting what she's trying to say.
Basically I shouldn't try to totally renovate the whole place when it's my turn.
"But aren't somethings best changed or renovated?" I had to ask.
"Like what?" She frowns a bit and I have to swallow.
"I meant something like the treasury or adding some few elevators to the building.” She gives me a hard stare whilst I speak and I swallow again at the end.
"The treasury could be better protected with some DNA lock and the elevators could also save time and energy." I continue either way and after her hard stare she smiles then nods.
Who knew she could be so intimidating?
"That's actually smart dear, and I couldn't agree with you more." I smile at her compliment.
"When did you think of all this?"
"Actually the treasury is Ethan's idea, the elevator is mine." I titter and she nods delighted.
"And do you think it can be done?" She questions curious.
"We agreed that my company would undertake that project but we haven't thought of a when."
"Company?" She creases her forehead and I smile.
"My adoptive parents owned a huge tech company and they left it in my name and care." Katherine nods looking surprised.
"Then I guess this queen role won't be that hard." She smiles and opens a big book on her table and I look at her nervously.
Managing a company is different from managing a country, with people in it.
I sigh then smile at her.
"So what other mysteries are you hiding, well besides your company and the fact that you're a hybrid." She smiles at the end and I sense something is wrong.
"I'm sorry Claire. But it seems I really don't know much about you. Can you please update me? Then I'll consider murdering your mate later." She speaks genuinely but motherly and I can't help but laugh at her last statement.

"You have a very interesting story." Katherine says after lunch in the dining hall and we're still seated having some dessert.
And of course I didn't tell her everything, especially the deep parts of my life like my dark side and dark past.
But she does know I'm a witch and the fact that I'm a hybrid is enough for her.
"If you ask me I'll say the moon Goddess brought you two together on purpose, a hybrid and a hybrid." I smile at Katherine's statement then stare into my food when something comes to mind.
"Katherine, what did you mean the other time when you meant you want the kingdom to be in good hands." She looks at me then sighs before sitting back.
"You see, the throne has been passed on from first son to first son for generations." I nod at her.
"Alaric, Ethan's father, is no exception, but again, the only problem was that I was his fated mate and he was mine." I continue to listen attentively.
"We both know vampires and werewolves are not only quite enemies but we can't breed either." I crease my forehead at her.
"Then what about Ethan?" I ask and she smiles.
"Ethan is a miracle and just when we thought the crown would be passed onto, Elric, Alaric's younger brother, and his son I found out that I was pregnant.” She smiles reminiscing on the day.
"The rest of the family didn't believe Ethan was for Alaric. In fact they had me go through some
gruesome means before they finally saw it for themselves that Ethan was for us. Born a hybrid.” I nod again.
"Even when everything showed that Ethan was the rightful heir they still made him battle with his cousin for the throne which he won fair and square." She suddenly looks into vacuum.
"They are against his very existence. But I don't blame them." She smiles at the end then reaches out for my hand which I give to her.
"But with you two, you're not going to face such a predicament." I nod and smile even though I'm a bit frightened on the inside.
