The silence in the room was broken by my baby’s soft cry.
I opened my eyes quickly.
“Kris…” I whispered.
I had named him that name just hours ago, but already it felt like the most important thing I had ever done in my life.
I lifted him gently, holding him close to my chest.
“I’m here…” I said softly. “I’m here, my baby.”
But my mind was not calm.
Not even a little.
Outside the window, life continued as if nothing had happened to me.
People walked.
Cars passed.
Laughter came from somewhere far away.
And I sat inside a small room, trying to understand how my life had fallen apart so quickly.
I stood up slowly and walked to the window.
I looked outside for a long time.
Different people were living their lives.
Some were smiling.
Some were arguing.
Some were rushing somewhere important.
And I realized something painful.
The world doesn’t stop when your heart breaks.
It keeps moving.
Even if you are destroyed.
I sighed deeply.
“I need to stop thinking…” I whispered.
But thoughts don’t listen.
They kept coming back.
Elvis.
Brianna.
The mansion.
The divorce papers.
Everything.
I turned away from the window and sat on the bed again.
My baby was calm now, sleeping quietly.
For a moment, I just watched him.
His tiny face.
His tiny hands.
So innocent.
So unaware of the cruelty waiting for him in this world.
“I will protect you,” I whispered. “No matter what.”
Then I reached for the small television in the room.
I needed distraction.
Anything.
I pressed the remote and turned it on.
At first, it was just normal programs.
Then suddenly—
A breaking news channel appeared.
My heart slowed without reason.
I didn’t even know why I kept watching.
But then I saw them.
Elvis.
And Brianna.
On a big screen.
In wedding clothes.
Smiling.
Standing together like a perfect couple.
My body froze.
The remote slipped from my hand.
“No…” I whispered.
My breath stopped for a second.
They were getting married.
So fast.
So clean.
So perfect.
Like I never existed.
The screen showed flashing cameras, reporters, crowds cheering.
And there they were.
Holding hands.
Smiling like nothing had ever happened.
My chest tightened painfully.
“No… no, no…” I shook my head slowly.
But the images didn’t change.
They were real.
Then a reporter stepped forward.
She held a microphone toward Elvis.
“Mr. Elvis,” she asked clearly, “you are the CEO of Chosen Company. Why did you divorce your previous wife so suddenly?”
My heart started beating faster.
Elvis smiled.
That same cold smile.
The one I used to love.
“I had to end that marriage,” he said calmly. “She was not loyal.”
My body went cold.
The reporter continued, “There were rumors of betrayal…”
Before she could finish—
Brianna stepped closer.
She smiled brightly.
“She was caught red-handed,” she said confidently. “With night guards at the mansion.”
I froze completely.
My mouth opened slightly.
“What…?”
I shook my head.
“No… that’s not true…”
My voice was too soft to even hear.
On the screen, Brianna continued speaking.
“She was never suitable for him,” she said. “She tried to destroy our relationship.”
The reporters gasped slightly.
Elvis nodded.
Like everything they were saying was true.
Like I was nothing but a mistake.
My hands started shaking.
“No… no, no…” I whispered again.
Tears filled my eyes instantly.
I couldn’t believe it.
I couldn’t accept it.
They were lying.
All of it.
But the world outside didn’t know that.
The news kept playing.
Headlines appeared on the screen.
“CEO Elvis Ends Marriage Amid Scandal”
“Ex-Wife Accused of Betrayal and Fraud”
My breath became uneven.
I felt like I couldn’t breathe.
And then—
My baby moved.
Kris started crying.
Loud.
Sharp.
Like he could feel my pain.
“Oh no…” I whispered quickly.
I turned off the TV immediately.
My hands were shaking as I held him.
“I’m here… I’m here…” I said quickly.
But he kept crying.
I walked around the room, trying to calm him.
“Please don’t cry…” I whispered. “Please, my baby…”
My voice broke.
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…”
Slowly, I sat down and held him closer.
Then I opened a small bottle of milk Carol had left.
I fed him gently.
“There… it’s okay,” I whispered. “Don’t cry…”
His crying slowly softened.
And for a moment, there was silence again.
But inside me… there was no silence.
Only pain.
Heavy pain.
“I can’t believe this…” I whispered.
Tears fell onto my baby’s blanket.
“Fate is so cruel…”
I looked down at Kris.
“So unfair…”
He blinked up at me weakly.
And I smiled sadly through my tears.
“But I will survive,” I said softly. “For you.”
---
Hours passed.
But the world didn’t stop.
My phone suddenly rang.
I looked at it.
Unknown number.
I hesitated.
Then I answered.
“Hello?” I said quietly.
Silence.
Then a familiar voice.
Elvis.
My whole body froze instantly.
“Did you see the news?” he asked coldly.
My hands tightened.
“Why are you doing this to me?” I whispered.
He laughed.
A low, disgusting laugh.
“Because I wanted to see you break,” he said simply.
My chest tightened painfully.
“You destroyed my life,” I said.
He didn’t care.
“That’s the point,” he replied.
My breathing became uneven.
“Why?” I asked again. “Why are you doing this?”
And then—
His voice changed.
Colder.
Sharper.
“Because I needed to see the tears of the woman who made Brianna feel out of place.”
My heart stopped.
“What…?”
“You made her feel less,” he continued. “Now you know how it feels.”
My hands trembled violently.
“That’s not true…” I whispered. “I did nothing to her…”
But he laughed again.
“I don’t care,” he said. “The world believes what I show them.”
Then the line went dead.
Beep.
Silence.
I stood there frozen.
My phone fell from my hand.
And I realized something very clearly.
This wasn’t just betrayal.
This was war.
I looked at my baby sleeping in my arms.
And I wiped my tears slowly.
“No more crying,” I whispered.
My voice changed.
Harder now.
Stronger.
“No more.”
Because now I understood.
If the world wanted me broken…
I would learn how to stand again.
And this time…
I would not fall quietly.
