Amaris POV
The Lycan King's chambers got tense with me and the blond lady had just entered, throwing glares at each other, but the Lycan King was not even fazed about what was going on.
“What are you doing here, Morgan? I don't think I sent for you,” I heard the Lycan King asked behind me, and I shivered at the heat that came along with his deep baritone voice.
“Sorry, my king, I just thought you might need company tonight,” the lady called Morgan said, bowing her head, and I suddenly felt like there was more to the two interactions.
Something was going on between the two, and it might be something I would not like when I got to know it, but still, I was curious to know.
“But who is she?” The lady asked, and I sucked in my breath, wondering how the King was going to introduce his little mate.
“Her? She is a girl gambling to keep herself alive... but I am not sure she can survive,” I heard him say as he walked back to his seat.
My fingers curled with hurt hearing how he described me, but I was smart enough not to let my emotions show. I could not let them know that I could get hurt by those things and not when I promised that I was going to grow stronger, which I have been failing miserably at.
“Ohh… then you must be in for an exciting ride because my King here is a pro in games,” the lady says with a smile which I knew immediately was fake. She has a smile that resembles my stepmother's. It was a fake smile.
“Really? But I do not intend to play games with him, I just want to keep my life,” I say, turning away from the lady as I face my mate. “Should I still undress!” I asked, and I could sense the lady's disturbed breathing when I asked that question, and it confirmed my guess.
Something was going on between the two.
“No, you don't have to do that anymore… You can go back to your room,” he says, and I nod my head bowing to him as I am on my way outside, but my steps halted when I heard the lady's voice.
“My King, what are you doing? I heard that they brought back a girl today who they suspected to be a spy, but what is that spy doing in your office!” She asked, and I heard the disgruntled sigh of my mate.
“And since when do you have the right to question my judgment!” I heard him ask as he slammed his fist on the table, and I knew that I had heard enough.
I knew Morgan was a woman I had to stay clear of if I wanted to last in the pack, but the question is am I going to last?
The next morning came quickly with me strategizing on how to live in the pack house without getting killed and also growing stronger.
“Maybe I should ask the Beta to start training me. I am sure with something training my.." I was saying, but my words got interrupted by a knock on my door.
“Good morning,” the maid greeted me with a smile, and I nodded my head. “The King sent for you to come to his chambers,” she says, and without waiting for my reply she dashed off.
I was surprised to find out that the king was looking for me again, and I thought he might want to finish what he started yesterday and I sighed as my mind went back to what I did yesterday.
Was I even ready to give myself to him? I wondered as I walked towards his Chambers and after knocking on his door I entered, and I was surprised to find his chamber empty with a brown envelope lying on the floor.
“What's this?” I wondered about picking up the envelope and I got curious to check what was inside even though I felt oddly that something was wrong, and my guess was confirmed when I heard a voice behind me.
“Is this what you are really up to?” I heard his cold voice that I was already familiar with asking behind me and I froze, dropping the envelope with me in the process, and he marched to my front.
“You should pick it up,” I heard his cold voice and I looked at him weirdly, wondering what was going on.
“You scared me and this envelope was lying on the floor when…” I was saying, but his thunderous voice cut me off.
“How dare you try to steal from me!” He yelled, and his voice made me skip off in fear as I wondered what was going on, but before I could think at all he was already gripping my neck with so much force that I was struggling to breathe.
“I didn't come to steal from you… Someone called me here!” I tried to explain, and I decided to take an oath, seeing the man might kill me. “I swear on the bond between us… I wasn't attempting to steal,” I attempted to clarify, and he let go of my neck immediately after he heard that.
“I can't get betrayed by you…no, I can't get betrayed by anyone ever again,” he mumbled, and I was surprised by his words.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked, but a cold glare from him was enough to shut me up.
“Don't get too curious…you are going to die,” he says, and I nod my head as I am already fear-stricken, and he sends me away, and I dashed out of his office immediately.
“I just got here, but it looks like I already got an enemy,” I say, and a crazy smirk tugged my lips.
Too bad for whoever is playing games with me...I am a crazy woman who has cheated death and I have nothing to lose but whoever gets in my way of staying alive must pay.
That's the only way I can survive too.
“Let's go find that little maid first, shall we?" I mumbled as I rubbed my bruised neck. I might be bullied in my family but I am sure not going to be here
I walked towards the maid quarter, but a maid bumped into me hurriedly, and what she was holding fell off, and I was surprised to find out it was jewelry.
Found you!
She hurriedly stood up packing the scattered jewelry, but I halted her movement.
“Can I ask you where you are rushing to? After causing so much trouble?” I asked, and she turned around to look at me. “Excuse me?” she mumbled gently, and I smiled…things are about to be interesting.
