CHAPTER 2: PUSHED TO THE BRINK OF DEATH

1206 Words
Amaris POV The news of Ragnar rejecting me spread like wildfire, and my stepmother and step-sister did not mind rubbing it on my face and reminding me how much of a loser I am. “Do you have to disgrace yourself like that?” I stood helplessly in front of my stepmother as she scolded me yet again. No one cared about how I was being rejected by my mate, but they cared more about their pride and how I had hurt the integrity of the pack. How ridiculous! “But I didn't call you here to discuss your miserable life. I am here to warn you not to have any crazy ideas since Ragnar and your sister will be getting married,” she says, and I was shocked by her words. My stepsister and my mate were getting married? "What are you saying? He is my mate, why is Aveline the one getting married to him!' I yelled at the throwing situation not making sense to me, but my stepmother counterattacked. “I know right, but we all know he rejected you and I don't see a reason why you shouldn't leave him for Aveline,” she says, and I was shocked by her ruthless words yet again, so I decided to face my father who was silent in the whole issue. “But he is my mate, why should I leave him for Aveline!” I yelled, looking at my father, and he avoided my eyes and that broke me. What did I ever do wrong? I knew that no one was going to help me, so I decided to accept my fate and live my miserable life without being disturbed, but Aveline barged into the room saying she needed to practice her archery skills. “As you know Ragnar needs a strong Luna that's why he picked me unlike someone here,” she teased me as I was asked to help her with the arrows. “Why can't you keep it up properly!” Aveline yelled at me and I whimpered trying my best not to fall with the loads of arrows with me and I wondered if she was going to use it all. “But the arrow is a bit..." I was saying, but I couldn't make out my words because I was weighed down by the load I was carrying, but Aveline did not care. “What! Are you complaining? How dare you complain when you can't even keep your mate,” she prickled where it hurt again, and I bit my lips down, trying my best not to break down. “Maybe you are right… I don't know how to do anything right, why don't you do it then!” I said dumping the arrows on the ground which surprised Aveline, and she stopped walking. “What did you just do?” She asked, but I didn't answer as I stormed off to my room. After some minutes of getting into my room, a maid came knocking and I was informed that Ragnar wants to see me on the cliff, and without thinking I go rushing in hope that he finally realizes his mistake. I rushed to the cliff in the hope that Ragnar was waiting for me there, and we were going to sort out our differences, but I was surprised to find my stepsister there instead. “What are you doing here?” I asked my stepsister and I heard her chuckle which somehow got on my nerves, but her looks were off. “See how pathetic you look with you running out of breath when you heard that my fiancé is asking for you,” I heard her say, and I sighed knowing that I had been set up by her, I decided to turn around and leave, but she dragged me back. “Don't go yet you still have somewhere to go…somewhere far away,” she says, dragging me to the edge of the cliff and I got scared. “What are you doing?” I asked, but she just smirked lazily at me. “You should go down there sis and tell me how it is,” Aveline says, and my eyes got misty in fear wondering what she was saying. I decided to ask her, but my words got stuck in my mouth when Aveline pushed me. “Adieu!” I heard her voice echoing as I fell. I felt my soul slipping away from me as my body danced to the waves of the wind and I closed my eyes waiting for death. I never knew that my life was going to be that shallow with no meaning to life at all, but at the time I wished I had lived a more desirable life and not die a miserable death in the middle of nowhere with no one to help me. My breath was shallow as I dragged my body out of the water and dumped myself beside the shore, glancing at the glazing sun. “I didn't die! I didn't die!” I yelled, coughing out a mouthful of salt water, and I hissed in disgust. I coughed out the salt water that filled my lungs, and my eyes got blurry at the life and death situation. That b***h Aveline! How can she do this to me? I thought as my mind recalled the events and I whimpered in pain, not able to take the hurt that set in. I knew she hated me, but I never thought that she could wish me death. Maybe it was all in my head that she wasn't capable of killing me because the signs were there already. “I found an intruder! I found an intruder!” I heard someone scream and I looked around in shock wondering what was going on, but before I could wrap my hands around the situation I was surrounded by some lycan soldiers. “What's going on?” I asked but none of them answered me until someone spoke up which I suspected to be their leader. “You are currently on the land of Red-Light Pack and this is considered trespassing and also posing threats that you will be taken in as a spy,” he said, and my eyes widened in shock hearing the pack's name. Red light Pack? Is that not the pack of the Lycan devil? The Lycan King that can kill everyone who comes across his sword on the battlefield? I pondered, but my thoughts broke when I heard the leader commanding that I should be arrested. “Take her." I heard him yell, and before I could even say anything and to defend myself I was dragged. I was scared because even the rumors about the Red- Light Pack were enough to frighten me, but I knew, no matter what I had to stay alive. “If we get to the pack can you please let me talk to the Alpha so I can plead my case?" I asked, and the guards sneered. “Ok, that's if you don't die before getting to him,” he taunted, and I shivered in fear. Yes, I might die but I could only hope.
