Episode 22: The Breaking Point

715 Words
A Dangerous Calm The morning light spilled into the room. Claire lay still, staring at the ceiling. Ethan’s arm was draped possessively over her waist. Like he already knew. Like he already won. She could still feel Ryan’s grip. Still hear his voice. "Wake up, Claire." But she wasn’t waking up. She was still here. Still in Ethan’s world. And the terrifying part? It didn’t feel like a prison anymore. It felt like home. Ethan shifted beside her, pressing a kiss to her bare shoulder. "Morning," he murmured. Claire’s chest ached. Because shouldn’t she hate him for this? Shouldn’t she be fighting harder? Then why did she still crave him? Why did his touch still set her on fire? She squeezed her eyes shut. She was running out of time. Either she found a way to escape Ethan’s illusion… Or she would be trapped here forever. And worst of all? Some part of her wasn’t sure if that was a bad thing. Ryan’s Frustration—And His Fear Ryan sat beside Claire’s real body. Her skin was too pale. Her fingers motionless. And Ethan— Ethan was still winning. Ryan’s fists curled. He had gotten through to her once. She had seen him. Heard him. But Ethan’s grip was too strong. If Ryan didn’t do something now… Claire would never wake up. His voice was sharp, desperate. "Claire, you have to fight." The heart monitor beeped softly. She didn’t move. Didn’t flinch. Didn’t hear him. And Ryan’s chest tightened. Because what if… What if Claire wasn’t fighting anymore? Ethan’s Trap Tightens Ethan watched Claire carefully. She was thinking. He could see it. Feel it. But he wasn’t going to let her run. Not again. Not ever. His fingers trailed down her spine. "You’re still with me," he murmured. Claire tensed. "You never left, sweetheart," he whispered. "Because you never wanted to." Her breath shook. Because wasn’t that true? If she really wanted to leave, If she really wanted to wake up… She would have done it by now. Wouldn’t she? Ethan smirked. Because he knew. He had already won. The Test That Will Decide Everything Claire stood on the balcony. Her hands gripping the cold railing. The sky was too perfect. The world too still. A fabricated reality. She knew that now. And yet— Her feet wouldn’t move. "Thinking about jumping?" Ethan’s voice was smooth, teasing. But beneath it— Beneath it was something else. Something dark. Something possessive. Claire exhaled sharply. "You don’t own me," she whispered. Ethan chuckled. "Then prove it," he murmured. She turned to him. "What?" Ethan took a slow step closer. "Go ahead," he said softly. "Wake up." Her chest ached. "You’re not stopping me?" Ethan smirked. "Why would I?" He tilted his head. "If you really wanted to leave, you would have done it already." His fingers ghosted over her jawline. "You won’t go, Claire," he whispered. "Because you still want me." Claire’s stomach twisted. Because wasn’t that true? Didn’t she still crave him? Didn’t she still belong to him? Ethan leaned in. His lips brushed against hers. "Stay with me," he murmured. Her body melted. Her heart ached. And the worst part? She wasn’t sure if she could ever leave him at all. Ryan’s Breaking Point—And His Final Move Ryan’s hands shook. Ethan was winning. Claire wasn’t fighting anymore. She was slipping deeper into his world. And Ryan? Ryan was done waiting. He grabbed Claire’s wrist— Her real wrist. And this time— He pushed harder than ever. Forcing his way into the illusion. And suddenly— Ryan was inside. Standing in Ethan’s world. Watching Claire lean into his kiss. His chest ached. His stomach twisted. Because Ethan had been right. Claire wasn’t trying to leave. She wanted this. But Ryan? Ryan wasn’t letting her go. Not without a fight. His voice cut through the air. "Claire!" She froze. Her lips inches from Ethan’s. Her heart pounding. Because Ryan was there. And this time? He wasn’t just a whisper in the dark. He had broken through. And now, Claire had to face the truth. No more illusions. No more excuses. She had to choose. Ryan. Or Ethan. Reality. Or the dream. And once she did? There would be no turning back. (To Be Continued…)
