823 Words
The Moment Everything Came Back Ethan’s mind was a hurricane. Memories surged through him like a dam breaking. He saw her. Every version of her. Claire laughing in his arms. Claire sleeping beside him. Claire screaming as fate tore them apart. And now? Now, she was standing right in front of him, looking at him with tears in her eyes. Like she knew. Like she had been waiting for this moment. "Claire." His voice cracked. Because he remembered everything. And the weight of it all nearly broke him. Claire took a shaky breath. "You remember." Ethan reached for her—like he had a thousand times before. Like he would a thousand times more. "How could I ever forget?" Then— The lights flickered. The air turned cold. And just like that— The gods made their move. Fate Strikes Back A sharp pressure slammed into Ethan’s chest. Like a force was dragging him away. No— Not this time. He gritted his teeth, fighting against it. But Claire’s face paled. "Ethan—" She felt it too. The presence. The watching eyes. Then— A whisper. "You were not supposed to remember." The walls shook. A pulse of raw energy rippled through the room. Ethan clenched his fists. He wasn’t losing her again. "Screw fate," he growled. And then— The world exploded. The Escape Claire didn’t think. She grabbed Ethan’s hand and ran. The apartment collapsed behind them. Shadows twisted, reaching for them—trying to pull them apart. "We need to get out of here!" she gasped. Ethan’s grip on her tightened. "Where?" She didn’t know. The gods were everywhere. But they needed time. Time to think. Time to figure out their next move. Then— A voice. "Get in!" Claire turned just in time to see Ryan pull up in a black SUV. The sight of him sent relief crashing through her. Ryan was on their side. For now. She yanked Ethan forward, shoving him into the car before diving in herself. Ryan slammed the gas. And just like that— They disappeared into the night. The Aftermath They drove in silence. Ryan’s hands gripped the steering wheel too tight. Claire sat beside him, breathing hard. And Ethan? Ethan was still processing. "So," Ryan finally muttered. "You remember now." Ethan exhaled sharply. "Yeah." Ryan nodded. "Good. Because that means we have a chance." Ethan frowned. "A chance at what?" Ryan’s jaw clenched. "At surviving." The weight of that word settled over them. Because remembering wasn’t enough. They had to stay alive. And right now? That wasn’t looking very likely. The Plan They stopped at an abandoned motel outside the city. A place with no cameras. No questions. Claire sat on the bed, running a hand through her hair. Ethan stood by the window, watching the street. Ryan leaned against the wall, arms crossed. "We don’t have much time," he said. Ethan turned to face him. "Then start talking." Ryan sighed. "The gods don’t like what’s happening. You were never supposed to remember. Now that you have, they’ll try to ā€˜fix’ it." Ethan’s stomach twisted. "ā€˜Fix’ it how?" Ryan’s expression darkened. "By erasing you." Silence. Ethan’s chest tightened. Claire reached for his hand, squeezing it. "We won’t let that happen," she said firmly. Ethan looked down at their joined hands. The warmth of her skin steadied him. She was real. They were real. And he wasn’t about to let some cosmic forces take that away. "How do we stop them?" he asked. Ryan hesitated. Then— "There’s a loophole." Ethan narrowed his eyes. "What kind of loophole?" Ryan exhaled. "We need to get to the Ashwick Estate." The Ashwick Estate Claire’s breath caught. "That place again?" Ryan nodded grimly. "That’s where this all started. It’s the only place untouched by the gods’ power. If we get there, we might have a chance to fight back." Ethan frowned. "Fight back how?" Ryan hesitated. Then— "By rewriting fate itself." The words hung heavy in the air. Ethan’s jaw tightened. "You mean breaking the cycle completely?" Ryan nodded. "Exactly." Claire’s heart pounded. Because that? That was their only chance. She turned to Ethan. "Will you trust me?" Ethan met her gaze. And even though everything was against them… Even though fate itself was trying to erase them… His answer was immediate. "Always." The Gods Make Their Move They didn’t even make it out of the parking lot. One moment, the street was quiet. The next? A wall of darkness erupted in front of them. Ryan cursed, slamming on the brakes. Claire’s pulse spiked. Ethan’s grip on her tightened. Then— A voice. Low. Cold. Ancient. "You cannot run from destiny." The shadows shifted. A figure stepped forward. And this time? It wasn’t just a whisper. It wasn’t just a threat. It was them. The gods. And they had come to finish this once and for all. To Be Continued…
