The next day at school, Tem ran up to Teddy in the hall. "I almost died when you asked Dad if the red amulet did anything with light."
"I couldn't believe the words just came out of my mouth. They seemed to have a life of their own."
"Me, too. I couldn't believe I found the courage to ask my question. Now we know."
A classmate walked by and stopped. He looked at Tem and Teddy with a question on his face. The boys greeted him, almost as if not seeing him, and walked away.
"We've got to keep this to ourselves," Tem said. "No one else can know. Let's go outside."
"I couldn't fall asleep last night. I kept wondering why your dad didn't see the amulets flash. Do you have any idea?"
"No, I can't figure that out. My dad has looked at those amulets many times, but he hasn't seen them
