‘What are…what are you doing?’ Sophia stammered at the feel of his touch which was undeniably soft “What do you want me to do for you, Sophia?” Michael asked swiftly withdrawing his hands, standing back on his feet and doing a good job at maintaining his composure “Please tell my manager to let me have my job back. That’s all” Sophia uttered “Well what if I tell you, I have a bigger offer for you?” Michael said staring at her keenly. Sophia paid more attention to hear the details “It’s very simple. Be my wife for only two years and you will be the richest woman your generation ever produced”.He added Sophia was dumbfounded. She took a careful glance at him and wondered if the Cigar he was smoking has was affecting his sense of reasoning. Michael did not pay attention to her startled face and continued “Two million dollars. That’s what you get as your reward, I am certain you have never owned that kind of amount in your life” “Why would I want to marry YOU?!” Sophia uttered out loudly, rising up to her feet “I’d rather marry the ugliest man in the world than marry a Jerk like you, you are nothing but an entitled bully!” She said looking at him spitefully Michael giggled out loudly “Indeed! You have just a week to consider my request. If I don’t hear from you after a week, the chance you have is gone, now leave my office, before this sophisticated place starts smelling like a local farm #Flashback ends It’s been a week of their marriage and Sophia was frying some pancakes in the Kitchen, dressed in a simple but beautiful flowing sundress. She has a passion for cooking and caring for others within her emvironment. Besides, she would be in the mansion all day mostly idle as there were already workers in the house to handle every chore. She kept herself busy with medical books and her favourite movies and she was getting tired of it already. She wanted to make herself useful hence she relieved the maid of her task that morning. She immediately dropped the Skimmer in her hands when she heard her phone bleep. It was her brother Richard “Hey, I feel as if I haven’t spoken to you in a long time” Richard’s voice echoed “I know right?. I should have been calling you more often. I have just been emotionally stressed out” “Why? Is everything Okay?” Richard asked worriedly. Sophia hesitated for a while before her brother made her talk “It’s the man I got married to. It’s....it’s hard to cope with him Richard. He is so controlling and intimidating, making me feel like I am living in a glass house, he makes me feel like…like a nobody” Sophia expressed bitterly, putting off the cooker’s switch Richard sighed heavily before he responded “Sophia I am not surprised. A man that didn’t allow your father, your brother or any of your friends grace your wedding?! It’s disrespectful Sophia. That’s how some of these wealthy people do, they are so bad mannered and arrogant!: “I should be the one apologizing to you guys. I mean Dad has been dreaming about my wedding. He had plans for it. I am sorry” “It’s okay. It’s not your fault. You were trying to help our lives” “I spoke with Dad recently, I am glad he is getting much better” “Yeah he is and I have gotten a response from the……..” but Richard was cut off from the conversation “Oh my God Richard, I really have to go now, I can hear some foot steps and it sounds like his. I have to round up my cooking” She said hastily “Alright. Talk to you later then” Richard replied hanging up. Sophia immediately rounded up with the pancakes and served them in exquisite trays. She also made some coffee and took them with her to the dining table. This would be her first time making any meal in the house and she hoped her conceited husband would love it. Michael was emerging from his room, dressed in a sparklingly white T-shirt and black stylish trousers to match, he seemed to be ready for work, engrossed in his phone before lifting up his gaze to the golden dining table adorned with pancakes, coffee and fruit variaties. “Hi. Good morning” Sophia uttered giving a bright smile and concealing her agitation. She hoped he just wouldn’t complain about the food. Michael glanced at her and settled down, ignoring her gestures. His eyes roaming the dishes infront of him “Where is the cutlery?” He asked “Oh…sorry, of course. Coming right up” She said hurriedly going into the Kitchen. In a minute, she was back with the fork and knife. “Are you trying to impress me, is that what this is?” He asked her raising an eyebrow. “Well, you are my husband and we just got married” She said expressively “Indeed” Michael uttered. Sophia lips formed into a quick smile. “You seem to be forgetting your place but it’s okay” He murmured. Sophia couldn’t hear that “Pardon?” she asked, Michael gave a dismissive look and proceeded to helping himself with the meal. He had a bite of the pancake and it seemed to have no problems with it, he continued eating with a neutral look, Sophia heaved a sigh of relief but just as she was about to take a step, Michael audibly cleared his throat, stroded over to the sink nearer to him and spat the chewed pancake in his mouth out. “ Are you trying to kill me?!” He raged “Kill you…what are you, wh…at are you saying?’” Sophia stuttered confused “This pancake” He said pointing his fore finger to the meal infront of him. “It is salty!” “What? Salty? How?, I took one piece and had a bite, it tastes good, Besides, you have taken two and you seem to have no problem with it, why……..” “Nice! Now you are counting each piece I took. Do you realize how gullible that is?" “But I.....” Sophia trembled at his words He scoofed “I should have known better than to use you as a wife even for the sake of a contract, and please do not try laying your hands on whatever I would eat again.” He muttered, picked up his phone and dashed out. Sophia took a deep breath , she felt degraded especially as his voice was so loud that even the domestic staffs passing by could hear him, she blinked her eyes, trying to fight the tears. She wished she could get out of here but it was too late, she has signed the contract agreement and got half of the payment as promised, Michael threatened that should she leave before two years elapses, he would send her to jail which she knows he is capable of. He is a well onnected and ruthless. She sniffed, covered the pancakes with a lid and walked back into her room. That same day; “Sophia these pancakes tastes amazing. I haven’t had something like this in a while” Bradley commended letting out a soft satisfying sound as he consumed the meal. Bradley is Michael’s close friend, a wealthy and charismatic entrepreneur with a good sense of humour and quite a ladies’ man. He had come to see Michael hoping he would be back from work very early as he told him. While waiting, Sophia microwaved the recently made pancakes and served it. “I am glad you like it” Sophia smiled. It brought satisfaction to her that her efforts on the pancakes did not amount to nothing. In that instant they heard smooth footsteps approaching and they both knew it was Michael. His cologne was unique. He loosened his sleeve buttons as he instructed his driver to drop his suitcase in his room.. He walked closer to the dining table uncertain of who was giggling with Sophia. He noticed her face radiated with a genuine smile and somehow that made him have mixed feelings he couldn’t even decipher. “Hey, dude you are back. I have been waiting” Bradley muttered wiping his lips gently with a tissue. Michael narrowed his eyes to have a clearer view of what was going on, he did. Bradley was devouring the pancakes earlier made by Sophia “You have had a taste of this?...” Bradley uttered waving a piece of the pancake pierced with the Fork. “Brad, the appropriate thing to do when I am not around is to quietly wait for me on the cushion right there, doing whatever you want to do, not sit here eating a meal made by my wife!” Michael uttered, turning his gaze at his friend, quite furiously and intensely. Sophia was fluttered at what Michael just called her. She shifted her gaze to look at him, her eyes widened.
