Monastery Clinic
The monks rushed Elena to the monastery clinic, a facility used by the religious personnel and emergencies for local Dkany residents. It was not uncommon to see crying children emerge with arms in slings and legs in casts. The monastery was a Godsend to the community.
With a few gurneys, a wheelchair, and a nurse pushing a patient across the floor, the setting was elaborate as a hotel’s lobby. Alex sat between Mikhail and Tony. Dr. James Swanson, M.D., from the United States, rushed down from nearby Cluj to confer with Marina.
Diagnosis: Gunshot wound to the abdomen. Although miraculously still alive, Elena lost a lot of blood and suffered from shock.
