The pack didn’t accept her. That was the first thing Luna learned. Whispers followed her everywhere. Fear. Suspicion. And something worse. Recognition. She stood behind Aiden as he spoke to his council. They didn’t hide their opinions. “She’s unstable.” “She’s human.” “The mark reacted too early.” Aiden listened silently. Then he spoke. “She stays.” Silence hit instantly. One of the elders stepped forward. “Alpha, that is not your decision alone.” Aiden turned slightly. And the air shifted. “No one touches her,” he said calmly. But Luna felt it. The pressure behind that calm voice. Something dangerous. Something controlled. After the meeting, Luna finally spoke. “Why are you protecting me?” Aiden stopped walking. Slowly turned. And for the first time— he didn’t answer like an Alpha. He answered like someone trying not to feel something. “…Because I should not want to.” That confused her. “What does that mean?” Aiden looked away slightly. “The bond doesn’t lie,” he said. “But it also doesn’t ask permission.” Luna frowned. “So what am I to you?” A pause. Longer this time. Then quietly— “Something I was never supposed to have.” That night, Luna felt it again. The mark pulsed. And somewhere deep inside the forest… something answered.
