Chapter Two: The Claim That Shouldn’t Exist

289 Words
Luna woke up in a place she didn’t recognize. Wooden walls. Firelight. A cabin. Her wrist was bandaged. And someone was watching her. Aiden stood near the door. Still. Quiet. Dangerously calm. Luna immediately sat up. “Where am I?!” Aiden didn’t move. “You’re safe,” he said. That didn’t help. “Safe?” she repeated. “You kidnapped me!” His eyes shifted slightly. “I saved you.” Luna stood quickly—too quickly—and stumbled. Aiden moved instantly to catch her. Their hands touched. Everything stopped. The air shifted violently. Luna gasped. “What is happening?!” Aiden froze too. His grip tightened slightly—but not forceful. Controlled. Like he was holding something back. “…This shouldn’t be happening,” he said quietly. Luna pulled her hand back fast. “Stop talking like I’m part of some experiment!” Aiden looked at her. Long. Then— “I didn’t choose this either.” That made her pause. For the first time, his voice wasn’t Alpha. It was… human. Luna swallowed. “Then explain it.” Aiden hesitated. Then slowly: “You’re marked.” Luna frowned. “Marked by what?” Aiden didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he stepped closer. And gently pulled up her sleeve. A symbol burned faintly on her wrist. Luna froze. “That wasn’t there before…” Aiden’s expression tightened. “It’s responding to me,” he said. Luna stepped back instantly. “That’s impossible.” Aiden’s voice lowered. “Not for what you are.” That sentence changed everything. Luna’s chest tightened. “What am I?” Aiden looked at her. And for the first time— he looked uncertain. “…I don’t know yet,” he said quietly.
