RIVENNA’S POV. * * I wasn’t hallucinating or dreaming; I really heard Vaughn's voice in my head. Nor was I hallucinating when I felt the Lycans lips on mine. His lips tugged on mine as i let out a whimper. “You’re new at this, princess, I can tell." He smiled. “Tell me, am I your first real kiss? ” His voice zapped through my mind. “This can’t be real," I said, pushing back through the connection that felt like a warm zap through my mind as I pulled away from him. “It's as real as it gets, princess." I heard him again, and this time I stiffened, my gaze locked on his, for a moment forgetting that Wren was even in the room with us in the first place. As my lips tingled, my heart was beating so fast I thought it would pop out of my chest, and my mind was filled with questions. “What sort of trick is this?” “No trick at all—so easy that you haven’t even noticed you are talking back to me telepathically," he said, tracing my lips before his hands fell. “So tell me, do you want his hands ripped off for laying them on you?” He asked me as I saw the instant depth of lust in his eyes as he stared at my lips. No hesitation to his question, as he was going to do it the moment I said yes. “No, that would be too much of a mercy for him, as I would like to have my revenge at my own pace." “Revenge?” He asked as I could see curiosity peak through those eyes as he held my waist tighter till Wren roared, snapping me away from Vaughn's curious gaze. It was like he was reading my entire existence just by looking at me. It was strange that I'd let myself slip up, not once but twice in his presence. Would he see me as insane too? I tried to take one step forward, but I felt a dimming light spell that made me almost stumble. A hand on my waist steadied me. ”It's alright. I am here," Vaughn assured as he said this out loud. What did he mean? Was he telling me to trust him with my thoughts and fears? Or that he would be doing this to only protect his king's property? “Get away from her Lycan!” Wren tugged me roughly from Vaughn's side. He growled, and I could see jealousy and ownership charging in his eyes and body language, as he was ready to take his claws out and fight just at the mere sight of wren touching me. “How dare you kiss her!” Wren spiraled, his canines retracting. But Vaughn stood unshaken by wrens threats, not even in a fighting stance, but with a tugging smirk on his face. Like he was daring Wren to pull the first swing, and I could already foresee that it would be Wren's death. As I quickly pulled my hands from wrens grip. “Good girl” I hear that deep voice in my head and my body warms again. “What are you doing Wren? Make no mistake, this man is still the right-hand guard of the Lycans and has the authority of the kings, any sudden move will put our pack in danger." Wren's eyes heated with a brawling jealousy as he walked over to me, his hand tight around my wrist as he proclaimed, “You are mine, he cannot have you…I do not care about those customs Lycan, or if you are to claim her by proxy of your king! Her lifelong dream had always been to be my wife…isn't that right, Rivenna?” He questioned me. My heart didn’t skip by his declaration, Instead I found myself seething. How long was I going to keep on pretending to hide my true nature and act like this still naive little princess? In our silence, the door opened, and Bria ran to Wren's side, holding his hand as his eyes were immediately locked on her frame, showing once more who he really cared for. “Wren, my tummy hurts. I missed you in the hall. You know you’re the only one who can calm the child and me,” she said, making a show of caressing her belly. As Wren's hands flew to Bria’s belly, they were right in front of me, making a shameless show of their affections. And in my past, I stood like an i***t, only believing what Wren told me because I was so desperate to be his wife and woman. But right now rage and disgust seethed in me when I saw Bria’s smug look that was aimed at me; she was showing me that he belonged to her no matter what. An idea sprang to my head as I turned over to where Vaughn stood. Our eyes met, and I saw his brows climb. I tuned my mind to make that connection as I spoke to him. “Stand still, please " I linked to Vaughn. I walked past Wren, no hesitation going on my tiptoes. I leveraged my small height against Vaughn's broad shoulders that stood like pillars. Before I leaned my lips to his, and this time I kissed him first. I made sure Wren watched that I wanted the Lycan’s kiss. Just those few seconds of our lips touching felt like a whirlwind of sparks that rushed back through my veins again. I hadn’t expected Vaughn to reciprocate so fiercely like I was his daily drug as I felt his lips devour mine as he wasn’t holding back in this second kiss. My head was reeling, my cheeks flamed by his kiss and warmth tasting of wine and his scent. His warm breath against mine rattled my heart as I find myself stumbling back, but he caught me by the waist, lifting me till my feet almost dangled. “Rivenna!” I heard Wren roar as I split from the towering alpha lycan who watched me with darkened eyes as I turned to Wren, who had pushed Bria to the side. While Bria watched him shocked to be pushed away and then me with a perplexed look, Because never had he acted so wildly and pushed her away because of me. And Bria looked like she would explode with embarrassment. “You said it yourself, we barbaric lycans share our mates, and so by proxy, I am doing my duties to my mate, and by the day of my turning, we will be bonded," I assured Wren, who was glaring at me like I was a sinner. “You bastard, what tricks have you played in Rivenna's head to make her act out like this? The Rivenna I know would never do this." “Then you don't know me at all." I muttered quietly, still breathless and lightheaded, and I saw Wren wasn't going to back down at all. “This, this is not over. Whatever spell or threat he is using, I will turn your eyes and love back to me, because that is where you belong," he warned before he rushed out of the room. It took a second for Bria to move. I found her eyes on me, eyes that burned with hatred, disbelief, and anger as she rushed out of the room, leaving Vaughn and me. And that's when I felt my head begin to ring again as I felt a warm trickle of metallic taste on my lips. I looked down to see that I was bleeding from my nose and my vision blurs. Just as my body rocked to the side and I found myself enveloped by warm arms, “I got you." Vaughn's deep voice rumbled in my head. My hand leaned on his chest. “What is this? Why are you helping me?" I muttered just as I watched Vaughn lean down with no hesitation or disgust as he licked the blood on my lips and skin. Just as my vision blurred and my vision turned black, I didn't know if it was my hallucination, but I swore I heard his reply. “Because you are mine”
