“Hey mom! I'm off to work!” Marie said to her mom, as she put on her shoes. “Hey baby! Mommy will be back shortly, okay?” She quickly turned to Morris, who was relaxing on his grandma’s chest smiling. He nodded as Marie pecked his forehead. Few days ago, Mr. Alessio has invited Marie to the company, showed her around. And offered her an assistant secretary to Vincent so that she can pick up from there. That was just a start, no need to negotiate payment because she was family, she works less because of her baby but collects payment in full. Vincent was so happy that finally, he could be in the same space with her. “Let me drop you off, since we both are going to the office,” Vincent said quietly as Marie stepped out of the mansion. He had been patiently waiting for her. “No nee…” “Marie! Have Vincent take you to work every morning or should I get you a personal driver?” Mr Alessio cut in sharply from behind. “Oh! There would be no need for that Sir,” I will join Vincent on daily Basis,” Marie replied immediately, walking towards Vincent's car. The last thing she would do was to add stress to her mom's husband, he already done enough for her. Even though she doesn't want to drive with such a distance sitting alone with Vincent. Vincent smiled through his teeth, not raising his face up. He would have given his father a thumbs up for such opportunity granted to him. He entered his car and waited patiently for Marie to enter and they drove off. The drive was deadly silent, Vincent glanced at Marie from time to time. But Marie didn't give a damn thing. He glanced at the front car mirror to get her eyes but she avoided his gaze intentionally. “Thanks for allowing me give you a ride,” he whispered, audibly for her to hear. “That was just for ur dad! On a regular basis, I would rather Walk to the office than have a ride with you,” she blurted out not minding the shocking look on his face. Vincent's face went pale. “You hate me that much!” He muttered biting his lower lip. “See I get it that you hate me or whatever but, it wasn't entirely my fault! You left without a word, she didn't even consider how I would feel or react!” He mumbled, running his left hand through his hair. “f**k! Can you stop talking! Or maybe have me climb down this car in the middle of the road?” Marie fired, getting pissed off already by his words. This is what he always said. She thought about the fact that he really cared, he could have gone extra miles to search for her. Vincent gazed at Marie for a while and turned to focus on his driving. He didn't say any more words. This Marie that he knew, would do anything to avoid him. So he had better been careful, those were his thoughts. They reached the company, and Marie couldn't even wait for the car to stop before climbing down. It was as if she was being haunted in that car. She got down and entered the office without even looking back. “She has really changed a lot,” Vincent muttered to himself as he walks into the office. Receiving greetings from both sides of the company. “Sir! You have a board meeting in the next thirty minutes.” His secretary informed him just a while after he settled in. He just nodded, “And ask ur assistant to be present,” he said shortly before she left. “Miss Marie! The chairman said you should be available at the board meeting in thirty minutes,” she quickly informed Marie who was hell busy with loads of work given to her by the same secretary. “Thirty minutes! That's too close,” she sighed but Miss Bella didn't respond to that. She wondered why the boss had wanted an assistant at the board meeting whereas she was there. Bella has been working closely with Mr. Vincent for years now, and had never seen him put so much interest in his staffs. But since Marie resumed work, it has been a different case. “Something must be up,” she whispered to herself. An hour later, the meeting resumed but there was no trace of Marie in the hall room. There were other business associate involved in the meeting. Everyone was present but Vincent’s mind drifted from time to time towards the door as if her was expecting a guest. Verena was present in the meeting with two other associate. She had been doing business with Vincent for years now, that has been the root of their relationship. Reasonable why Vincent hadn't thrown her out of his life. She noticed Vincent's distraction and wondered what was the issue at the moment. Just then, the door opened and Marie walked in like she owned the hall. All eyes were on her that she felt embarrassed and her lips carved into a little smile. “I see!” She cursed under her breath. “So this is it! Huh!” She whispered glaring dangerously at Marie who took a seat at the extreme end of the hall. Her face was down. Verena nodded continuously. “The game is becoming more interesting than I thought!” She whispered to herself.
