"I've never stopped loving you, Marie! You left! You refused to hear me out, It was all a misunderstanding,” he begged, burning his eyes into hers.
That statement alone irritated her, she got her strength and pushed him away, “after many years! This is the s**t you say?” She retorted sharply. “We no longer exist, and that's it, period!” She fired and stormed out of the hallway towards her room.
Vincent watched her leave, cladded in shame and guilt. He couldn't stop her, he couldn't say a word. “She was right! At first it was nothing, pride stopped me from searching for her” he murmured, running his hands through his hair. He hit his already tightened fist on the wall out of frustration. He left the hallway, hissing under his breath.
Marie reached her room, and badged the door angrily. She slumped behind the door. “f**k! What misunderstanding? He didn't look for me! He didn't ask for me! So of course I have nothing to worry about,” she muttered through her clenched teeth.
“s**t! Why do I feel this way? He doesn't exist and that's it, period!” She murmured and got up to her feet.
Vincent went to meet his dad and Marie's mom laughing at Morris' performance. He began laughing, and right there, his head cleared up. His joy when he saw Morris singing for his grandma melted his heart. Immediately Morris sighted him, he jumped on him. “Hey! Uncle Vincent! You've been gone since morning?” He asked him as Vincent adjusted him to stay comfortably on his chest.
“Oh! Dear! Went with your mom to make some important arrangements,” he whispered in his ears and Morris juggled.
Marie couldn't hear their laughter from her room, she wondered why Morris got so attracted to Vincent upon all her warnings.
“You both look like father and son, I must confess! Is there something you are not telling me, Vincent!” His father said as they all burst into a thunderous laughter.
“Father and son, indeed!” Marie growled from her room, hissing loudly. Just then, her phone buzzed and she saw Marbel’s missed call. She dialed her line but didn't get a response. “Did she just beeped me and not pick up?” She hissed. “I thought as much, that her new work with Verena is something I refuse to trust,” She muttered as she waved her head, furrowing her eyebrow.
“But, then! She beeped at me? What could have been the problem?” She thought, putting her fingers on her jaw. She waved her hands nonchalantly. But then, her call came in again, she picked up. “Hey! Girl, can you come see me right now? Please,” she begged on the phone.
“Girl! You…..”
“Oh! Please, I'm so sorry to disturb you but, please? Marbel interrupted before she could say a word.
“Okay! I hope it's worth the stress, cause girl!” Marie whispered as she hung up. Changed into a simple outfit and stormed out, passing through the balcony where her mom, son and the rest were seated.
“Mommy!” Morris cried out as he spread his hands for a hug from her.
“Oh my baby!” her lips curving into a sweet adorable smile, that Vincent couldn't get his eyes off. She took Morris from Vincent's arm and patted his back a little, bowing a little in greetings towards Mr. Alessio who nodded. Then she handed Morris over to her mom, not looking at Vincent's direction.
“Mom! I will be right back! My friend needs my help!” She said as she hurriedly left them. Vincent's eyes followed her steps till he was out of sight. His father watched him as he turned and their eyes met.
“She's quite adorable! I agree with you,” he said to his son, thinking he was only admiring her. Vincent chuckled, “father it's not like that,” he said smiling.
After a few minutes, Marie was already standing in front of Marbel’s apartment. She didn't even knock, she just entered.
“Girl! You should be knocking!” Marbel yelled winking at Marie. That was when Marie saw Danny sitting comfortably on the couch.
“Oh! Sorry,” Marie said, widening her eyes as to why she was winking. “Hey!” She said turning towards Danny.
“You're the lady from earlier? Sorry I didn't know she was your friend!” Danny said, adjusting his position.
Silence erupted between them before Danny stood up. “I will leave you girls, I need to take my leave,” he said as he smiled towards the both of them. He waved his hands at them and shaked Marbel’s hands before leaving.
“Men are a bunch of cheaters!” Marie muttered, immediately he stepped out of the door.
Marbel looked at her confused, “you've met him before?” she asked.
“I met him just today! He is my mom’s event planner, we went to make some arrangements with him” she replied, raising her nose in mockery.
“Oh! Right!,” Marbel burst out laughing. “I met him on my way home, he offered to give me a lift and I agreed. But then he came in and didn't want to excuse himself. That's basically why I called immediately because I was so scared he might do something funny and stupid,” Marbel said, rolling her eyes.
“Guess what happened at work today!” Marbel chuckled. Marie looked at her, widening her eyes.
“Verena must have s*****d ur ass! Or you got a hot male colleague?” Marie said and they both laughed.
“Cheese! Girl, that's gross!” She said in between laughter. “She is actually cool…”
“Haaa! What? That lady is nothing close to being cool,” Marie cut her off. Knowing exactly what she wanted to say. “Be careful, I'm sure she wants something from you! She might be quiet now but not for long!” She continued.
After a brief silence, Marbel nodded and replied, “you are actually right! Because she brought up questions about you today at the office.”
Marie's face went pale, “I knew she never meant well.” Marbel smiled briefly.
“C'mon girl! I always got you covered.”
