Marie was stunned at the sight before her, “Is she that desperate to get between everything that I call mine?” She thought to herself as she walked towards them.
Marie had come to check on Marbel for the day. But, she was nowhere to be found. So she decided to walk down the road, maybe she went to get something.
That was when she saw them from afar. She was instantly filled with anger and resentment. “Seems like you really want to fight! You can't be wicked and selfish at the same time,” she murmured as she walked closely towards them.
Marbel seemed surprised to see Marie at that spot. Marie dragged her out in front of Verena while she smiled. She sighed with a mischievous smile, like she won or something. “She will call after all, she needs the Job badly and the pay is convincing,” she muttered as she entered her car and left.
“Wait! Girl, do you know who that lady is? She is the lady I told you about, the one that almost sent me and Morris to early death! I guess she wouldn't dare introduce herself to you?” Marie said, her voice dangerously quiet.
“I do know about all these!” Marbel said quietly. Marie's eyes widened in shock.
“You knew her? What was that just now!” Marie glared at Marbel with a questioning look.
“It's just a harmless offer!” she retorted immediately.
Marie glared at her, "Are you serious right now,” she scoffed, taking a step backwards. “Harmless offer? You know she could actually use you as a tool towards me! Right? You know she could step you up because of me? You know….”
“Just stop Marie! You this! You that! Everything is not all about you,” Marbel challenged. “She made an offer, I haven't even concluded and you are already flaring up,” she concluded and Marie's face fell flat.
Marie was stunned with Marbel's response. She had never talked to her like that before. Verena must have said something to her. She can't lose her best friend, the only person she comfortably deals with.
“Babes! I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that.” She said, reaching out for her hands. “That lady is manipulative and selfish, she can do anything to get at anyone! She is not nice at all,” Marie continued with soft pleading eyes.
“The pay is good, and the job is not all stressful, just allow me to handle this please. I promise, I would be super careful and smart,” she whispered loudly so she could hear, tightening her grip on her valks
A hurtful feeling crossed her face, “she was really serious about this whole thing,” she couldn't help but nod. She had wanted to talk to Vincent's father about the Job but she was too fast to accept Verena's offer, which broke her heart.
She felt a bit betrayed but she wouldn't show that, she is not that weak.
“Okay, if you say you can handle this, then so be it. But I'm not actually happy, I feel betrayed. I told you I would talk to my mother's finance about the work thing…”
“Till when!” She retorted and waved her head. “This came unexpectedly and freely, I just think it's an opportunity for me ,” she concluded and Marie couldn't help but nod.
Marbel sighed in relief, and pressed her lips together in satisfaction.
Marie was troubled and disturbed but chose not to talk. She was beginning to think whether her bringing Marbel down would turn into something else for her. She never knew this side of Marbel till this period.
“I was actually going down the streets to get something, want to join me. Marie nodded without a word. They began walking down the streets, the silence between them was so obvious that Marbel turned to her, blocking her way. “Girl! Don't be so gloomy and dramatic, I already gave you my words. Can you please stop being like this,” she pleaded.
Marie forced a smile, “this doesn't sit well with me, and I'm honest about it. But it's well, I've heard you,” she said, taking her hands.
Marbel smiled, she thought about the whole drama as they continued walking, she wondered how dangerous Verena could be that made Marie so scared and angry.
Later that night, she picked up her phone to dial Verena's number. She paused for a moment, realizing that was too soon. But then she needed to start immediately, so as to get her salary at the end of the month.
“There is no time to waste,” she thought to herself as she sighed heavily. She dialed her line from the card she gave her.
“That was fast! Was thinking you would take lots of time to realize your opportunity,” Verena's voice came from the other end, right before Marbel could say a word. “I like you already! You are quite smart and unpredictable,” she continued pausing for her reply.
Marbel hissed silently under her breath, “you sure have ur words put together at all times, I would take your offer but on a condition,” she blurted out.
“You are actually bold, to actually think that you are taking a favor and asking for a condition at the same time. I should be the one to give you conditions,” Verena retorted sharply.
“Say whatever you like, I still have my condition!” She said sternly knowing she has a hidden agenda for offering her a job just like that without an interview or thorough check up.
“Okay, I'm listening!” Verena finally gave in because she needed her desperately to make her move.
“Stay away from my friend and her son, you already have her man!” Marbel fired, her voice trembling.
Verena let out a loud laughter, slowly it turned to something mockery, soon it was a loud smirk. Marbel was embarrassed at her sudden outburst. Her anger was slowly increasing.
Verena cleared her throat without saying a word, “As long as she gets involved with my business, she is my business.”
