It was at this point Marie knew for real that they are being targeted. She rushed back inside to Morris wishing she had seen the face of the person driving that damn car. She left Vincent behind speechless.
Just as she was about to pick up Morris so they could leave, her phone rang and it was Marbel. She was so happy to see her call after what seems like forever.
“Hey girl! What the hell happened?” She asked immediately as she picked up her call. “Hey boo! Been sick for days, how is it going over there?” She replied, sounding so weak and quiet.
“Oh my goodness, so sorry girl! Hope u are getting better? We are all fine her except for little things here and there,” she said to her smiling through the phone and holding onto to Morris tightly.
Vincent watched them from afar hoping he could at least drop them home, but then he saw her answering calls and smiling. He left them and went home angrily not knowing what was his main reasons for being angry was.
She had made it clear that he should stay out of her business, but that is such an impossible thing to do. Hence, they are in the same roof that's never gonna happen.
“Girl! Something happened, we lost our Jobs! Marbel said almost sounding teary.
“Wait! What? How? What happened?” Marie asked wiping off the hot sweat on her forehead. She couldn't imagine what she was hearing. So now knew the reason Marbel had been off and on for long, that Job was like her life, her only means of survival.
“The company was sold, and the new management said they want new hands on desk,” she explained sniffing and sighing at the same time. She coughed and coughed continuously. That was when Marie knew she had been seriously sick and there is no one to take care of her.
“Girl, please I need you to come down here, so I can watch you closely, I don't can't let anything happen to you. We can both get a Job here together,” she cried out to her wiping her eyes with the back of her palm.
“Okay babes, I will move by weekend,” she said but Marie cut her short. “No, no girl, you are moving tomorrow or the day after please,” she begged and Marbel agreed and they comforted each other and ended the call.
Marie looked at the time and took Morris home, “mom, why are you crying,” Morris asked almost tearing up too. “Oh baby pls, don't cry, mummy is fine just dust okay,” she said to him, carrying him in his arms. Morris was her bundle of Joy so she hates to see him shed a tear or get angry.
“Auntie Marbel will be joining us soon,” she said to Morris smiling. “Yes! I can't wait to see auntie,” Morris exclaimed happily.
Marie was home already, she went straight to look for her mom, she need permission from her so that Marbel can see where to stay at the moment.
“Hey mom!” She greeted from her behind. Mrs Lawrence turned towards them and smiled, “not minding Marie's greetings, she went straight and carried Morris in her arms, jogging him up and down while Morris laughed and laughed.
“Mom, so it's Morris now, you can't respond to my greetings again,” she said jokingly and both of them laughed.
“Don't mind me darling, how was the walk out,” she asked her settling down on one of the seats at the balcony. “It was beautiful grandma, we saw uncle Vincent,” Morris said sharply smiling, even before Marie could respond. Marie glared at him, that was exactly what she was avoiding.
“Why did you guys come home foot, and not ride with him since you saw him there,” the mother asked glancing both at Morris and his mom. “Morris keep quiet will you! Mom we still had things to do at the play park so I asked him to go first,” Marie explained rolling her like she was tired of the explanations. Morris stared at his mom for a while and then at his grandma.
“Mummy please, I have a favor to ask you,” she said squatting very close to her mom's sit. “Okay, am listening,” her mother replied, “I hope it's not to travel and come back because I won't allow that or else you are willing to travel without Morris,” her mother continued.
Marie laughed, “no mom, am here to stay. Actually, there is this friend of mine, her name is Marbel, and is just the only friend I ever had, was with me throughout the pregnancy journey till birth. Mom, she is just like a sister to me,” she said as she scratched her hair a bit, trying to put her words correctly. “Okay, and what about her,” her mother asked becoming so interested in what she is saying since it involves her pregnancy stage.
“She will be coming into town, but she needs a place to stay,” she finally said looking at her mom without blinking.
“So you want her to come here?” She asked. “No mom, I want her to stay at our formal house for a while since no one stays there anymore,” she concluded waiting to hear her mom's approval.
After thinking for a while, “you sure trust this person,” her mother asked and she nodded in affirmation. “Okay, she is free to stay.” Marie jumped happily, “ Thank you mom!” She replied happily and Morris was smiling. “Thank you grandma,” Morris said too, “oh baby, it nothing, if she is good to you then she is good to grandma,” she replied.
Marie's phone ranged and without looking at the screen, she thought it was Marbel who called back. “I have a job offer, that is if you are here to stay,” the voice said and the call ended.
Marie's smile disappeared as she looked at the screen to know who the hell called her.
