“Follow them slowly,” Vincent said to his driver, as he watched Marie enter the car and they drove off.
The car pulled at a Fancy restaurant. Marie and Derek came out of the car smiling like kids who were playing the whole time. That alone made Vincent's heart ache. His car was parked a little distance from the restaurant, so that they couldn't see it.
“Who could this guy be? Could it be that Mr Williams son is back already,” he murmured to himself without getting any response. His fist tightened, his teeth clenched. He wanted to badge into that place so badly and pull Marie out but his face would go public. He waited patiently for them to get done. He could see them from a sided tiny decorations glass at the restaurant.
“What is he even saying that's making her laugh so much, is he that funny? I can make her laugh, smile and blush more than that!” He muttered, loosening his tie which was already making him sweat.
Marie and Derek talked for long, she didn't know that Vincent followed them. “Derek, you are such a funny fellow, this really cracked me up,” Marie said, choking on her laughter.
“That's just me being real, especially when I stay around a pretty girl, my heart just misbehaves,” Derek mentioned, scratching his back hair. Marie blushed at those words he said. She had been laughing and blushing since they got into the car. He keeps on saying funny things and praising her beauty like she was an angel.
Marie wanted to reveal the fact that she has a son, but she doesn't want to spoil that happy mood she was in. She hadn't been this happy and lively since she came back to town. “I will tell him next time we meet,” she assured herself.
“Do you have any relationship at the moment,” Derek questioned with a soft smile. They had ordered very expensive food but it seems like their talks are way more important than the food. Marie looked up to him and then at his food.
“Can you start eating already? Your food will get cold,” She said firstly and Derek smiled, picking up his spoon and fork. He dug his food hungrily while Marie watched him with a smile.
Marie noticed that Derek was a bit shy to eat in her presence, but he was bold to talk. “He is surely a free person when it comes to words,” she thought to herself while taking her food slowly.
“Sorry, but you haven't answered my question,” Derek reminded her, wiping his mouth. He looked at Marie who was eating slowly and nodding her head.
“Yeah, I still remembered your question but I don't want you to choke on your food. I don't have any serious relationship at the moment,” she finally answered with a smirk which turned into a fake smile for a few minutes.
Derek nodded his head and continued eating, there was silence between them and Marie felt it was unusual. So she threw back to the question he asked her, “Do you have a girlfriend?” Derek's face changed a bit, from being cheerful and handsome to something awkward.
“No….. I don't….. have actually,” he stammered, eyes on his plate.
“Are you okay, Mr Derek?” Marie questioned, unsure of his last change in mood.
“Of course, I am. It's just that I'm having some reactions from the food,” he said sharply.
“Oh! So sorry, take some water, you will be fine,” Marie reached out to him with a glass of water. Derek took the water and drank a little. Marie stared at him for a while, suspecting something was wrong or maybe he was probably lying but there was no evidence to it. “Why has he stammered and changed behavior ever since I asked about his relationships? Is he going through a heartbreak?” She thought to herself but couldn't answer.
After a while, Derek's face lightened up. “So when is our next meet, I really enjoyed every moment with you,” he said, fixing his eyes on Marie. He went for her hands and held her right hand tightly like she was going to run off any moment.
Marie smiled broadly, holding her chest with her left hands. “Anytime you want, I'm always available just for you. But work can be hectic sometimes so we will just communicate,” she said tucking a strand of hair behind her ears. The butterflies in her stomach wouldn't allow her to behave normally.
Derek brought Marie's hands closer and kissed it. At that point, Marie could fly away, she turned her whole red face away towards the window.
Marie's smile faded off slowly, as she saw Vincent figure close to the window staring at her with anger. She turned back to Derek who was staring at her, took out her hands and wiped her eyes clearly. She looked towards the window again but then she didn't see anyone there.
“Is that hallucination? What the hell was that right now?” She muttered, with widened eye, still looking at the window.
