1074 Words
Marie was stunned at Marbel's reaction but waved it off. She sat with her at the backseat while Morris and Vincent sat in the front. “Where are we going,” Vincent asked, smiling at the two friends' reactions and conversation. He knew Marie was never going to accept it if not for Marbel's words. He instantly liked Marbel and hoped to get along with her for Marie's sake. He didn't know what was coming before him. “Just head to that food store at the front,” Marie replied, rolling her eyes against Marbel who was staring at her laughing. “You are supposed to be helping me here, what the hell are you doing?” Marie whispered to Marbel angrily. “I'm sorry, didn't just want us to start booking a ride or get a taxi. This is harmless, I assure you,” Marbel said with all confidence, nudging Marie with her shoulder. “I'm not playing with you, ma'am,” Marie replied, eyeing her and hissing silently. Vincent dropped them off at the said store, waving to Morris who waved back in excitement. He turned to Marie who quickly looked away. He drove off. “Baby, u shouldn't say yes to everything especially when mummy doesn't like it,” she turned immediately to Morris and said. Morris nodded his head sadly. “Mummy! Is Uncle Vincent a bad person?” Morris asked his mom who wasn't expecting the question. Marie looked at Marbel who raised her hands in the air. “Answer ur son, he just pulled a question,” Marbel said, rolling her eyes. “No baby, He is not just friends with mummy, okay?” She replied softly, touching her cheeks. Morris nodded but not smiling. “Smile for mummy, baby please,” Marie said, noticing he was no longer happy and that hurt her badly. Morris still kept a straight face, “But, mummy I like uncle Vincent, can I play with him sometimes,” Morris said, almost tearing up. Marie marvelled at his plea, she wasn't expecting this connection too soon. She tried avoiding them but maybe her best wasn't enough. “No, I am ur mother, and you must obey what I say,” she said finally and dragged him in his hands as they entered the eatery. After they are done eating, Marie turned to Marbel, “when will you be ready to look for Job here, I equally need one though my stepfather wants to offer me a Job in his company but, you know am rejecting it because of that arrogant man,” she said avoiding to call his name because of Morris. She knows he is very observant and has sharp ears. “I'm ready anytime, even now! Girl! I need that job like crazy. Help me tell ur stepdad so he gives me a job too.” Marbel teased seriously. They both laughed. _ _ _ Few days after, Marbel was walking down the street, a car pulled in front of her. She became afraid because apart from Marie, no one else knows her here. “Hey girl! U don't need to be afraid. I know you but I guess you don't know me! But it's okay,” Verena boasted as she highlighted from her car. “I have watched you for some days and I must say. Oh! Pardon my manners, I'm Verena,” she said as she brought out her hands in greetings. Marbel was too stunned to speak or even react, she was just watching her speak. Admiring her beauty from head to toe. She looked at her and then to her car. Such a beauty with such beautiful car. At first, Verena thought she was ignoring her, “oh! Seems like you have heard so much about me, your friend must have feed ur ears about the name Verena.” She said tucking her hair behind her ears. “Sorry, u know my friend?” Marbel spoke up immediately she heard Marie, snapping out of her thought. “Who are you again, if I may ask?” Marbel asked gaining her ground now. “Oh! I thought you didn't talk before because you know me, Like I said my name is Verena, and I'm Vincent's current girlfriend,” she chuckled, which made Marbel glared at her angrily. “Oh girl! You can glare all you want, it won't change anything. Actually I stopped her to offer you a job, I'm sure u both need one, my pay is good,” Verena said smiling mischievously. Marbel was surprised, “how did she know she was desperately looking for a job,” she muttered as she scanned her up and down. “I'm sure you wonder how I get my information, don't worry I have a strong source. You can think about it, because I like you. I will pay you $100 per week and if I see some special improvement. I will add it up.” She boasted again, grinning like she caught a trap. Marbel was wowed at the price offer, it's so huge to take care of her for a long while, “besides she seems harmless, Marie won't marry Vincent again since they are step-siblings so she has every right to be his woman,” she thought to herself. “I'm sorry, I can't accept your offer, I can always get another job,” Marbel replied scratching her head, as if she disagreed with her words. Though she wants the Job, she feels like she might betray her friend. “Leave emotions and sentiment out, and grab an opportunity before you. You might be thinking about your friend's trust but, trust me even if she doesn't work till years, she is practically covered and rich.” Verena said as she adjusted her clothes for more visibility. She knew Marbel would accept the work but she might delay. She was willing to pay her any amount, hence, she provides her with what she wants. “I think I will have to think about this, and maybe get back to you.” Marbel was already confused and lost in thoughts. “What she said was actually true, Marie would always be okay, no matter what. Especially now that she is back. So they both are absolutely different,” she muttered to herself. “And what are you going to think about,” a voice said from behind.
