Marie slumped into her seat, after she had sent Derek a message for rescheduling. She exhaled loudly and started the work on the files.
An hour later, the secretary took her bag and left. Smiling at the kind of work Marie was doing. “Goodluck with your loads of work, I hope you Choke on it,” she said as she crossed Marie's back. Marie could hear her murmuring and whisper but she just kept mute.
Vincent came out of his office, stared at her for a while. “Are you almost done?” Vincent asked but Marie kept quiet. She didn't even look around to see who was talking. She just focused on the work she was doing. “Are you ignoring me?” He muttered as he came closer to where she was seated. Marie didn't flinch or make any movement. Just as Vincent got a bit close to her, such that she could feel his presence, a message popped on her phone. Ignoring Vincent's presence, she opened the message.
“I will wait, just let me know when you are ready!” Marie stared at the message for a while, smile flickered across her face as she dropped the phone. Vincent read the message, not knowing who sent it. He felt a little angry and unsettled.
“You can stop the work, tomorrow you can continue!” He said softly but Marie didn't still say a damn word. His anger was increasing gradually. He has given her the work so she could stay behind after work, he wanted them to talk and clear the air together since their family home feels so opened. He wanted a little privacy for them.
“Hey! I'm sorry I put so much work on you, I didn't mean to stress you or anything. Just wanted us to have some moments for ourselves before heading home.” He muttered, running his hands through his hair. Marie paused her work, turned and glared at him for a while.
“Some moments for ourselves? For what exactly? The earlier you realize there is no us! The better for everyone. That is had died years ago, there is nothing anyone can do about it. Go and settle down with Marie!” She fired at him and returned to her work. Vincent scratched the back of his head as he moved forward and sat on Marie's desk blocking her view and stopping her from work.
Marie became furious, “you wouldn't want to start this with me, would you? I am not the respectful Lady you met years ago. I will fight you and face the consequences if you don't get your freaking ass off my desk!” She yelled at him. Vincent didn't move an inch, he sat there waiting for whatever it is she would do.
“No matter how bad you have become, that large heart of yours is still intact,” he said gently, smiling and rubbing his nose. Marie's anger has gotten to its peak, she desperately wants to push him, drag him and even slap him but his father's thoughts keep flashing on her mind.
Marie stood up, picked up her bag and walked towards the entrance. She left the files and the desktop on. Not minding what happens tomorrow morning when she comes to work.
“You can't walk out like that, you have to pack these things properly and shut down the system!” He backed from where he was still sitting. Seeing that Marie didn't turn, he stood up and rushed towards the entrance, bypassing Marie and heading into his car. Marie paused and looked back, she saw her table was still a mess. She rushed back to her table, cleared the files and shut down her computer.
Vincent sat comfortable in his car waiting for Verena to come out. Expecting her to come in and drive home with him, since it was already late. He smiled to himself waiting patiently.
Marie walked out, directly to a sleek black car parked just opposite to Vincent's car. Vincent was stunned. “Did she book a ride home? That car is definitely not just a ride,” he watched closely.
Before Marie got to the car, she called her mom. “Mom! I won't be home early, please tell Morris for me,” she smiled through the call. “Alright baby, take care of yourself,” her mom replied and the call went dead.
A young man was already waiting in front of the car, he was about thirty years of age, tall and handsome. He was smiling from the moment he got out of the car. Vincent watched them closely, he was so confused at that moment.
They had a welcoming handshake, talked a little and he opened the car for her to enter, she smiled all the way into the car. Vincent was running mad and wild, that smile on Marie's face wasn't fake. He looked at his wrist watch and the time wasn't funny at all. The car glass was tinted, so he couldn't see anything from the inside.
“Who the f**k is that guy?” He growled in fury.
