Vincent stood there like a log of wood, he held his mouth with his hands.
“Gosh! I should have followed my instincts earlier, and let her be for tonight. Now she knows I followed her,” he exhaled heavily. He turned back and walked towards his room, looking backwards from time to time, as if expecting Marie to come out and check on him.
Marie entered her room to see the room was empty. “Morris, should be with my mom,” she assured herself and went to take a quick shower. After taking her bath, she stepped out for dinner and to see her son too. As she went closer to the dining room, she heard Morris' voice and others laughing loudly. She smiled, “My son has become an entertainer,” she said as she waved her head and entered the room.
“My daughter, how are you? Today must have been so hectic for you, my baby?” Her mom greeted with a smile immediately as she stepped in. Morris rushed down from his seat and jumped on his mom. Everyone in the room admired the mother and son's love.
“I’m fine mummy, Hello Sir!” She replied to her mom, as she greeted Mr Alessio who was smiling with them. She turned to see Vincent smiling too and that made her stomach twist. She completely ignored him.
“Mummy! I missed you, I want to be following you to work!” Morris cried out, grabbing her mom's cheeks. Marie smiled, taking a seat by her mom's side which is adjacent to where Vincent was sitting.
“My baby! Mummy missed you more than you missed her. But you can't follow mommy to work, work is too complicated and mummy won't want to stress her baby, okay!” She said to Morris, who waved his head in disagreement. “But grandma is here with you, even grandpa too,” she added and Morris glanced at them both and turned back to Marie. They all bursted out laughing.
“Let's dig in, before the food gets cold,” Mrs Lawrence said with a smile, and they all began to eat. Marie and Vincent sent quick glances towards each other.
“How was your dinner meeting with Derek?” Mr Alessio threw the question, and Marie looked up at the mention of Derek's name. She smiled and nodded with her mouth full of food.
“I didn't get off work on time, so the meeting was short. But we had a great time though,” Marie chuckled as she swallowed the lumps of food in her mouth. Mr Alessio smiled and so did Marie's mom. Vincent's head was down, while he ate his food. That was when Vincent realized that the guy he saw was Mr. Williams' son, Derek.
“By the way, why did you get off work late?” Mr Alessio asked with a concerned look, turning towards Vincent. “Son! Didn't you know she had a dinner appointment?”
“Not at all Sir, I didn't tell him. I was already on the work before I talked with Derek on the phone,” Marie cut him short immediately, in a soft but firm tone. She looked towards Vincent's direction who was glaring at her with an unreadable expression. She just rolled her eyes and continued eating, she didn't want the topic to be dragged or tell Vincent's father that his son did anything wrong.
Vincent coughed slightly and excused himself, his anger was growing. His fist tightened as she walked out of the dining table. Leaving the door, he ran his hands through his hair. “Derek!” He muttered.
He paced up and down the hallway, lost in deep thoughts. “For how long do I have to endure this? Marie is mine, no one is taking her from not even my father,” He mumbled silently, hitting his hand on the wall.
He picked up his phone and dialed a number, “Derek, Williams son, I need every information concerning him! Do you understand?” He yelled quietly, bitting his lower lip.
“Yes Sir!” The voice replied sharply and the call ended.
Vincent tapped on his phone, a quick smirk crossed his face, as he adjusted his clothes and turned back to rush inside. But then he collided with Marie who was coming out.
Marie lost her balance and was almost on the floor, when Vincent rushed to grab her waist, holding onto the door wall for support. And their eyes met, Vincent burned his eyes into hers. Marie heart raced, hot sweat running down her forehead.
“Are you okay,” Vincent muttered regaining his consciousness and Marie nodded, jumping up from his arm.
Marie stretched her clothes, “watch ur steps next time,” she muttered as she hurriedly left.
“Was that suppose to mean a, Thank you,” Vincent's voice echoed in her ears. “She is such a pain in the ass,” he thought to himself, still looking at her direction.
“Is it just my eyes, or is her ass growing bigger, I hope that Derek of a guy didn't do anything stupid in the car,” his eyebrows furrowed at once, but then his phone vibrated and a message popped in, with an unknown number.
“Marie’s baby Father is in town,” the message read.
