“Can you…teach me?” He sighed. “Yes, I can teach you. I think it might even be a good idea.” Suddenly he was up from his desk and pacing about the room, more alive than she had seen him in a long time. “Yes, yes, it’s a fine idea. I had hoped for this. I had planned to teach you magic. Yes. But how could I know if you had any talent for magic unless we begin, and we can’t begin unless you express a will to learn. I can’t force it on you.
