Maybe I'm a dreamer
Maybe I'm misunderstood
Maybe you're not seeing the side of me you should
Maybe I'm crazy
Maybe I'm the only one
Maybe I'm just out of touch
Maybe I've just had enough
Maybe it's time to change
And leave it all behind
I've never been one to walk alone
I've always been scared to try
So why does it feel so wrong
To reach for something more?
Don't want to live a better life
What am I waiting for?
'Cause nothing stays the same
Maybe it's time to change
Maybe it's hopeless
Maybe I should just give up
What if I can't trust myself?
What if I just need some help?
Maybe it's time to change
And leave it all behind
I've never been one to walk alone
I've always been scared to try
So why does it feel so wrong
To reach for something more?
Don't want to live a better life
What am I waiting for?
'Cause nothing stays the same
Maybe it's time to change
And maybe it's time to change
And leave it all behind
I've never been one to walk alone
I've always been scared to try
And maybe it's time to change
And leave it all behind
I've never been one to walk alone
I've always been scared to try
So why does it feel so wrong
To reach for something more?
Don't want to live a better life
What am I waiting for?
'Cause nothing stays the same
Maybe it's time to change
'Cause nothing stays the same
Maybe it's time to change
As the sleep couldn't last long, I woke up to my phone buzzing. I rolled over seeing text message after text. It was Qetsiyah of course. So I grabbed my phone and checked out the messages.
Q: "Girl, so is it true that the new guy drove you home?"
Q: "Girl, I've heard from like 20 ppl, that y'all were talking and getting it on?"
Q: "Girl, answer me I NEED to know what happened. It's bugging me out. Did you two do ANYTHING?!"
Q: "HELLO ?!"
Then I saw one from Glen.
Glen: "Good morning, hope you don't have to much of a headache but if you want to later talk, I'm just a phone call away."
I shook my head and decided to call her. And of course she answered as soon as the first ring had rung.
"Finally you answer!" She said.
"Girl, I was asleep. You woke me up." I said. "What time is it anyways?" I asked.
"Quarter to 8."
"What the hell, how are you even awake?"
"I didn't drink as much as you and I had to watch the twins this morning. Ma and pops had to go in this morning. They got an emergency call."
Qetsiyah's parents were doctors and my parents were firemen and Detective. So they all work together, kinda sorta.
"Is your parents home?"
"No, they were over to Nana's Kimmy had her son and they wanted to see him."
"Ooouu, Kimmy had him. I do want to see pictures."
"I'll have my parents send me some to show you." I told her.
"Good. So is it true?"
"What's true?"
"Glen?"
"Girl, we didn't really talk. We said some words but it wasn't much. He offered to take me home since I had to much to drink. And he lives right down the street from me so it was a win win for himself." I told her.
"So no s*x, no kissing?"
"What no, who the hell said this s**t?"
"No one, I was just asking. I just wanted to see if he would take advantage of you."
"Girl, when I see you I'm slapping you."
All she did was chuckle. As we talked about last night and about Glen. She asked me so many questions, that it was unreal. As well talked, the door bell had rung so I had got up to go answer the door while I was still on the phone.
As she was talking when I opened the door, it was Glen. "Glen!?" I said.
"He's there, oouu." Qetsiyah said.
"I'll talk to you later." Then hung up the phone.
"Morning, at first I thought I woke you. But I clearly see you were woken up by someone else." Glen had said.
"Yea, my best friend Qetsiyah." I told him.
"Oh, so I was wondering if you wanted to hang out with me."
"Umm, well my parents ain't home right now. And I don't want to get into trouble having a boy over."
"Wow, a cheerleader that don't have a boyfriend, is respecting her parents rules. That's impressive."
"Well, I ain't like most of the cheerleaders/girls. I follow the rules sometimes. Its just my parents are the law. And well they know everything." I said laughing.
"I see, I'm guessing this whole town knows everything. My phone got blew up from everyone at school asking me things. Does that happen a lot?"
"With this town and who your friends with, yes. Its a small town. Everyone knows everything." I said. "Do you want a drink?"
"Sure anything you have."
"'Kay, take a seat on the swing and I'll be right back." I said then closed the door.
Once the door was closed, I ran into the kitchen and grabbed two glasses. With one I filled it with water and chugged it twice before putting orange juice into it for the both of us. Then carried them out to the front porch.
Once I got outside, I handed him his glass and I sat on the swing. We talked a little. Mostly he was talking since I was the shy type person.
"So when you say your parents are the law, what do they do?" He asked.
"My father is a chief firemen and my mom is a detective."
"Oh, are they at work?" He asked.
"No, they are at my fathers parents house. My aunt has her baby and they went over there to see him."
"Why didn't you go?"
"Because, I got home late and I wouldn't have gotten up that early. But clearly I am since someone woken my up." I said then laughed a little.
He joined me as well. God, he laughs were even cute. I just wanted to touch him all over. Kiss those lips of his, those muscles. Everything.
"Is everything okay?" He asked.
"Yea, your just taking me out of my comfort zone. I don't usually talk to people. Other than my parents and friends. I'm shy. I have a little disorder that no one knows the real name on it. Its like I'm antisocial."
"Oh, well thank you for taking your time with me." He told me.
I moved my hair behind my ear and smiled. "So what about your parents?" I asked.
"Well its just me and my mom. My father, was an abusive drunk that put his hands on my mother and she left him back where we used to live. And my mother, she's in between jobs right now."
"Oh, I'm sorry about that." I said as I touched his hand.
"Thanks, I guess." He said.
We continue our little talks, getting to know more about each other. He told me some more about how his family was perfect when he was younger. And then one day when his father got fired, everything turned down hill. He started drinking and when my mother came home from work, she didn't have dinner some on time and he had slapped her. I felt bad for his mother. And for him. He said it started when he was 7 years old. And him being a tuff little guy, he tried to protect his mother and got hit for it.
As he told me his story, I saw a few tears came out and he hurried up and caught them before I saw them. But I saw them.
After a little while later, guessing it was almost 9 o'clock, my parents started pulling into drive. When they got out, they walked up the porch and looked at us.
"Mom, dad how was the baby?" I asked.
"He's perfect. Looks like daddy." My mother said.
"Yea, might some trouble there with the ladies." My dad said laughing a little.
"So is this the young man that kindly helped bring my daughter home last night in her own car?" My mother asked.
"Yes, ma'am. I needed a ride as well and she looked tired from all the fun we all had last night." Glen had said.
"Well thank you. That was very kind of you." My father said. "It wasn't to wild last night was it. I know how those bonfires get."
"No, no sir. It was unreal, it was great."
"What's your name son?" My father asked.
"Glen, I live at the blue house right there." Glen said pointing at it.
"Your Sherry's son?" My mother asked.
"Yea, how do you know my mother?"
"She came by the station the other day. Something about a straining order for someone."
"Yea, that would be for my father. We left him awhile back and he keeps finding us."
"Oh, dear. Well your always welcome here anytime. And if anything ever happens, you can always stay with us. Our couch is always free." My mother told me.
"Thanks, I should be getting back home. Genevieve, I'll see you later?" He said as he handed me his glass.
"Yeah. I'm just a call away." I said.
"Good meeting you son." My parents said together.
"You too." He said then walked away.
We all walked inside the house straight into the kitchen. I washed the glasses and put them back and turned around to face the music.
"I'm sorry I had him over."
"Gen, its fine. Y'all were outside, where everyone could see. Its okay." My father said.
"I like him. He's cute." My mother had said making me blush. "He got my baby girl out of shell. She's talking to someone other than her best friend and parents."
"Yeah, I told him that too. We had a long talk out there. It felt normal to talk to someone. I didn't feel like I was gonna lose it. I think once I told him that I was shy and antisocial, that I felt relief, more relaxed."
"You looked relaxed." My mother said.
I shook my head and smiled a little. Maybe I could change after all. I've been this shy little girl for some long that maybe it was a time to change it all. Maybe. Just maybe.
