The First Meeting

My mind is in a mess. I am wishing the Earth could swallow me and I feel like such a fool. Here I am in front of the cashier having to pay for a shopping cart of groceries with a queue of impatient people behind me I realize that my cell phone and purse aren’t in my handbag. I guess that’s what happens when you at the last minute decide to change handbags because the previous one didn’t match your outfit. “That will be 150 dollars mam,” says the visibly irritated cashier who is speaking to me in a high pitched tone assuming that I hadn’t heard her the first time. I embarrassingly say “I’m so sorry I forgot my purse.” To which she cheekily replies “whatever.” Did she just say that? “Excuse me that’s not very polite, “I say. To which she adds “Well mam you know what’s not polite? It’s you making all these people wait while you make a fool of yourself.” Then I hear a voice behind me. “I’m sorry to interrupt but could you perhaps add my stuff onto the bill and I will pay for both the lady and me.” I turn around and our eyes lock. I swear he is the most handsome man I’ve ever seen with literally 3 items in his hand who has offered to pay for my entire shopping cart of groceries. “You really don’t have to, I can always come back later,” I shyly said. “Too late it’s already done,” my hero said with a huge grin plastered on his face he continued to pay for both our items. As soon as our packed groceries were loaded back into our shopping cart my hero offers to help me pack them in my car. What a gentleman! “By the way I’m Leo, Leonardo Jackson but everyone calls me Leo and you are?” “Andrea Sanders, pleased to meet you Leo, you really didn’t have to do this. I literally live 5 minutes away. I could have easily gone back home and fetched my purse. Look you’re not going to leave without me paying you back so maybe you could give me your details and I’ll transfer what I owe you. Gosh I’m babbling again aren’t I?” Leo had that cute grin on his face once again. “Andrea, how about instead of paying me back you go on a date with me and you can pay the bill?” I couldn’t resist. Remember, I’m the hopeless romantic, the one who has been waiting for a Prince. Perhaps this handsome hero is the one I have been waiting for. “A date it is then. How about tomorrow night since its Friday? I’ll meet you at Classique Restaurant at 7pm. Leo gives me another grin “That sounds perfect Miss Sanders, I look forward to seeing you then, as much as I would love to get to know you right now I have to get back to the office for a meeting shortly. Here’s my business card it has my number on it. You can call me or text me later on or if you get cold feet and decide not to go out on a date with me.” “Thank you Leo, see you tomorrow,” I say as I shyly take the card from him. What a day. Well I guess I am officially going on my first ever date tomorrow with my hero Leo.
