Chapter 8

Kiaras POV

I woke up gasping for air. I had just had the craziest dream. It was a weird night, with that whole thing with Ryan and all. That's probably what it was, a weird night and eating before bed. I couldn't help but recall it though. I stood in a field with long wheat just fraying in the wind. Maybe 100 yards from me was Ryan holding a baby. He just looked down at it smiling, not even noticing I was there. He dissipated like dust in the wind. When I turned I saw a beautiful woman who I assumed was our moon goddess. She looked just like the pictures in the stories I grew up reading. She stood there long black wavy hair blowing in the wind and a sheer white dress. She just looked at me

before disappearing herself. I had never dreamed of the moon goddess before but I had heard where others had. Its believed that she appeared to you when she had a message. I looked at my phone and it was 0530. I also had a missed call and text from Emily. "give me a call when you can". Id call her later after I got up, showered and made me some coffee. Id head to the pack house in about an hour to grab some breakfast.

After finally getting dressed I made my way to the pack house and when I walked in the smell of freshly baked bread flooded my nostrils. Silver moon may have had the elitist warriors but Im convinced this pack had the best cooks.

"Morning!" I heard then saw a woman maybe around Emilys age come out with a huge basket of croissants. She smiled and I could tell she was a kind soul.

"Good morning. It smells amazing in here" I complimented her. She thanked me for my compliment and set down the basket. I grabbed a couple croissants and decided I wouldn't stay for breakfast. As im walking out the door, I see Dustin and Ryan pulling up and someone stop to open the door for me.

"not staying" he asked?

I had seen him. I just wasn't expecting to talk to him. I was rather good at assessing and analyzing. One of the many "talents" I had acquired. This guy looked like the pack flirt. "no, I don't think I am." And began to walk out.

"enjoying your vacation?" this guy was holding up the door and soon people would be piling in.

"have we met?" I asked.

"not officially. The name is Jason. Im a warrior here. I saw you at training the other day."

Then he leaned down to whisper in my ear. "I didn't know Dustin had anyone beautiful in his family" then winked at me.

I just rolled my eyes internally when Dustin and Ryan walked up. Dustin placing a firm grip on Jasons

shoulder. He didn't look happy. My assessment was correct.

"What so interesting you need to talk to my sister?"

Ryan just stood there staring between the both of us before pushing through without saying a word.

Dustin smiled a mischievous grin "Kiara can take care of herself but lucky for you, im here too" He winked before

walking off. I looked at Jason, giving him a coy grin and finally left the packhouse. When I arrived back at the cabin I decided to call Emily back.

"Hey Kiara!" I had to pull the phone away from my ear. For a Beta female, one would never know that Emily could kick a** because she was always friendly and upbeat. Don't let that fool you though. Behind that she was analytical and calculated and smart. It was always interesting seeing people assume she was just a normal happy go lucky person but really she had already read that person in the first 5 minutes.

"hey Emily. Sorry I missed your call. How have things been?"

"well I have a lot to tell you." I could tell she was excited but then her tone became somber.

"First I need to tell you that our pack medical team is currently testing an antidote to silver poisoning"

"what? That's awesome" I said

"now, its no 100% cure but it will prove to decrease death by probably 35%. Its still gonna hurt like hell though" then her tone switched. She became more somber and serious.

"Kiara... its been Tyler and JoAnna working on this.. They completed the mating process and Tyler has

taken over the position as pack doctor with Jo by his side as a nurse. Theyre doing a great job. I just thought you should know"

It stung hearing about Tyler and Jo but not as bad as I would have thought. I guess I hadn't thought about them since being here and being reminded of them, I was somehow caught off guard. I wasn't surprised about Tyler taking over, I knew he would and to be honest I wasn't surprised about Jo assisting

him. She had to be one of the smartest she wolves I knew. I wanted to ask about Jo's birthday that was only 1 week before mine and how her shifting went but it was probably none of my business. I recalled for a moment we all 3 would celebrate together by doing something fun on the weekend. Tylers

birthday was the end of February, Jos was the first week of march and mine was the middle of March.As if she was reading my mind, she asked

"So your birthday is coming up soon"

"yeah" I sighed. "I have nothing planned except going through a painful wolf shift.

I laughed trying to be funny and distract from everything I just heard about my ex boyfriend and best friend.

"I cant wait to have you back Kiara. I gotta go but I'll talk to you soon." I said good bye and hung up the phone. Today is Thursday. Ive been here four days. I had almost 2 weeks lefts before my birthday and I had to go back.

Later that day after training Dustin stopped by my cabin. It was so different looking at my brother as a future father but I couldn't let on that I knew. He talked about this weekend showing me around the property. He talked about the river and cliffs. He knew Id love that. Before he left I asked him if he'd heard about the silver antidote.

"yeah I got a call from John last night"

"I talked to Emily this morning" I replied. "Tyler has taken over as pack physician, Jo assisting him as his nurse and evidently they were the ones that discovered"

"well sh**, I guess I cant kick his ass now can I?" he said almost annoyed.

I laughed. "No, I guess not"

We were both thinking about it but as if to avoid it Dustin quickly spoke up. He told me something I think I already knew but it still made me stop and think for a moment. He told me about a pack down

south with a psychopathic maniac murderer for an Alpha. Bloodmoon pack in Lousiana He said. His name was Michael and evidently he was cold, ruthless and dangerous. He had killed other packs, even aligning himself with hunters. He wanted packs, property, and power. Dustin explained that our pack the silver moon were being requested to make an alliance with the redwood pack and others would be following suit. The silvermoon alpha and redwood alpha were in communications with other packs hence their travels and hence Dustin coming here to train the redwood warriors.

"Kiara, you know what this means. We as the special operatives will be dispatched if this psycho tries anything"

"Im aware brother" I deadpanned

He stood there staring at me then broke the silence and gave me a hug telling me good night and that he would see me Saturday.
